The FBI has released its National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figures for September 2010. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has performed their voodoo on the stats—subtracting NICS checks for concealed carry permits—and come-up with an adjusted number of dealer enquiries: 770,310. That’s a six percent increase over last September’s 726,572. In a down economy, post Obama gun-grabbing paranoia, that ain’t hay. Again, I reckon the Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) biz is driving the market. We’ll keep an eye out for data on what kind of firearms are selling, but dollars to donuts its small handguns like the Ruger LCP.
So NICS checks were up 6% 1.75 years after Obama took office? I would love to know what the breakdown of the purchases was. I don't see why CCW would drive that kind of an increase unless several large states changed to Shall Issue. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if a large portion of the guns purchased were actually semi-automatic center fire rifles with detachable magazines.
