“I’d love to get [the Senate] to vote for [a federal budget]. Boy, I’d love that, you know. But other than me going over there with a gun and pointing it to their head and maybe killing a couple of ’em, I don’t think they’re going to listen unless they get beat.” – U.S. Rep. John Sullivan via timesunion.com

  1. “pointing it to their head and maybe killing a couple of ‘em”…….that would known as a good start in some circles.

  2. Gosh, he makes me proud to be an Okie. I’ll start passing the hat and we can sent him another box of shells.

  3. If a private citizen had voiced a similar sentiment that person would possibly be investigated, detained, or worse.

  4. 20 years ago if you had stated the US would run without a budget for 3 years they would have placed you in the care of a psychologist. Who ever thought that we could not only run without a proper budget yet spend 3 times as much each year as we used to.

  5. If one of us announced to the news media we were considering a “…killing a couple of ’em” (U.S. Senators) with a gun option, how long would it be before an FBI SWAT Team is breaking down our door (and probably bringing a couple of ATFE Guys to shoot the dog, as well)?
Should be fun to see how Rep. Sullivan conducts his “damage control” in the aftermath of this gaff.

  6. If somebody points out this incident as an indication that pro-2A people are crazy, counter that this guy is a politician, and therefore assumed to be not entirely compos mentis

  7. “Apparently this guy needs to improve the filter between his brain and his mouth.”

Why? He is stating the truth about the situation. Congress has run the government into unsustainable debt. Greek has lost its sovereignty (bankers are dictating policy now) and the USA is in a worse financial position. The only difference is that our economy is huge and can absorb quite a bit of punishment. It seems that Congress is determined to maximize the damage through borrowing and devaluation of the dollar. If destroying the government and causing economic devastation isn’t treason, what is?

    • I agree with this guy’s “idea”, just that he could have worded it better, less inflammatory. Something along the lines of, ““I’d love to get [the Senate] to vote for [a federal budget]. Boy, I’d love that, you know. But other than me going over there with a can of whoopass and opening it up on a couple of ’em, we will never got it passed.”

  8. It’s about time someone took the filter off. This country’s situation is far beyond the point of being polite, or soft spoken. He is simply exaggerating to make his point. There is no hope for a budget through the senate. Before this nightmare of national collapse is over, much worse will be said. You can wake up when someone actually starts doing what he said in a fit of hyperbole.

  9. Anyone else read Term Limits by Vince Flynn?

Someone knocks off three powerful politicians, the Chairmen of the House Appropriations and Senate Finance and Banking Committees, and then issues their ultimatum: a zero-based balanced budget, or there will be more killings, basing their righteousness in this course of action on the line in the Declaration of Independence “that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive…it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government.”

Basically, you’ve had your chance; get it right, go home, or get removed. I think the “when all else fails, vote from the rooftops” sentiment is going to get more and more popular as time goes on.

  10. Well…the guy probably is right…sadly so.
I am sure if we said something like that, we would have a midnight SWAT raid coming through the door, shooting the dog, stomping the kittens…etcetera.
