  1. And I was carrying an ASP baton with me when I was visiting the UK after getting robbed once, and almost robbed the 2nd time. If I had defended myself with that against the numerous muggers that traveled in groups, I would have been a star on Natgeo’s “Imprisoned Abroad”. Cop told me the first time I was robbed, “Don’t let this give you a bad impression of the country..” Oh yes it is, and it’s worse than that!

  2. Point 1: 5 years on and still blaming the last guy? Kinda sad really….

Point 2: I don’t think Barry realizes just how little authority his executive orders have.

Point 3: I have never heard a freaking president whine so much when he doesn’t get his way. He’s not even trying to hide it anymore….

    • Why hide it? He already got re-elected. He can now do what ever he wishes. He is a pompous ass and a better actor than the “12 years as a slave” cast

    • Regarding authority, it’s pretty clear that his admin will obey the orders, regardless of what the courts or Congress says. We need some serious non-compliance, preferably at the level of Governors’ offices. Individual non-compliance is great, but limited in effectiveness without organization.

  3. Whatever. They’re all actors, Congress and the President, and Washington is their stage.

It is high time we implemented a part-time legislature, added term limits, and reduced pay to the median wage of their home state. For President, make compensation the median wage of DC. What expenses does the President have anyways, what with everything else paid for and provided by the taxpayer?

    Transportation? Check.
    Food? Check.
    Lodging? Check.
    Security? Check.
    Insurance? Check.

Should I go on? The root of the problem is career politicians who push ideology, instead of citizen representatives / public SERVANTS who look to solve actual problems to which the only viable solution is some kind of government intervention and to provide for the security and sustainability of the union.

I swear, send them all to Kentucky for an LELC class on problem solving techniques, then require every Act of Congress to have as part of the documentation the problem solving activities which show what the problem is and how the Act presumes to address it, along with a plan to track progress and results, with a sunset provision.

Screw it, I’m submitting an amendment.

    • In the past the republic format was used for limited lines of communication, and a bull work against mob rule. Now our representatives use our republic to drive price of food, energy, transportation, armaments, health care, and medicines to unsustainable levels. They create legislation to curb our rights, remove our property, then pass laws to denying any resemblance of responsibility.

The business of government is to overwhelm people with laws & regulations so they give up and submit to it. “It”‘being the consumer of your labor, theft of your ideas, al in the name of improving our local, state, and federal communities.

The only legitimate, non violent tool we have, is the vote AND our responsibility is to use it.

Add to that; no omnibus bills. Congress may only vote on single-issue bills of a limited length.

  4. Fine Mr President, we the people can act too. But it’s not going to be the type of action you and your party wants. Especially when alot of them are running for reelection. Keep John Morse,Angela Grion, and Evie Hudak in mind.

  5. T. Jarvis….. as you said, ” All responsible gun owners should be happy to support any reasonable effort to solve gun crimes”.

REASONABLE being the key word here. I live in California where this law has now taken hold. Just as everyone thought when this article was written, gun manufacturers are leaving california. S/W is the first, Ruger is the second and there will be more. This law is not reasonable on its face. You fully support that notion with the “even if it solves one crime” theory. While fully understandable, it is not reasonable. This law bans an entire class of guns and is a de-facto run around the 2nd ammendment. There is no reason why it can’t be extended to rifles that use firing pins and by all accounts it will be coming. This is not about safety becase if it were it would extend to revolvers and police weapons, but of course it doesn’t. If there were a REASONABLE way to do something like this I would support it fully. Think about what would happen if politicians wanted to stop drunk driving, all they would have to do it mandate that ignition interlock devices were installed on every new car being sold in California. While is sounds like a great fix, it’s not going to happen because of the problems it would cause and the easy ways around it. Gun owners want to abide by the laws, I certainly do. But we get very upset when people who don’t understand firearms think they know what’s best for the entire population.

  6. I sincerely hope he, Obama, doesn’t do something really stupid but seeing as he’s an insecure man with a very small dick and a very large stick, it wouldn’t surprise me if he did do something foolish. My advice, Barry…..don’t.

I just hope that criminal can read so he doesn’t take those guns into any “Gun Free Zones”.

  11. There is something working at the roots of the Washington Post and it has been working at it for years. Up until the early 90s, it was almost a wannabe New York Times. Ever since Katharine Graham got off the board, the Post has been slowly sliding back towards the center. Her legacy of far-leftism is only slowly draining out of the scuppers to this day.

As much as we hate it, the mainstream media still has a huge effect on the politics and policy of this country. Sure, the typical WaPo reader is a Democrat from Maryland or DC. But up until now, his/her exposure to conservative ideas has been Ezra Klein and his ilk striking down strawmen. Volokh and crew have a real opportunity to expose the left to the ideas of the right – not just the caricatures of the right, but the actual ideas. I’m cautiously hopeful.

Except for the comments system. Gah, only the WaPo web site could make me miss Disqus.

  13. North Dakota Has had Restaurant Carry since about 8/1/13. Their law changed. You can carry in a restaurant but not in the bar area of that restaurant. New Law Below. New Mexico only allows carry in places that sell beer and wine. No Hard Liquor Places.

62.1-02-04. Possession of Firearm or Dangerous Weapon in Liquor Establishment or Gaming Site Prohibited –
    1. An individual who enters or remains in that part of the establishment that is set aside for the retail sale of alcoholic beverages or used as a gaming site at which bingo is the primary gaming activity while in the possession of a firearm or dangerous weapon is guilty of a class A misdemeanor.
    2. This section does not apply to:
    f. The restaurant part of an establishment if an individual under twenty – one years of age is
not prohibited in that part of the establishment.

An obviously mentally disturbed individual with a gun is taken into custody with no one killed.
There was certainly a risk to the officers but here in the US officer safety is paramount, to the point where people are killed by police when the threat was minimal or non existent.
I don’t mean to bash LEOs but when one man is shot with his hands in the air and another is beaten to death by police, we may be seeing public support weaken as these stories gain more attention.

Don’t take responsibility for your defense, just depend on those horrible men to not be horrible, yep; that’s feminist empowerment for you.

I am not a gunsmith. I am a Vietnam era vet. I was in the infantry for four years. My M-16s all had 1:7 twist. We fired nothing but 55gr rounds. We were told that they had a maximum effective range of 480 meters. I could consistantly hit a man at 520 meters. The only trouble I had was the front post was bigger than a man at 520 meters and you had to aim over his head.
I baught an AR 15 with a 16″ barrel and a 1:9 twist . It is chambered in 5.56 and I think it is crap.
I’ve read some of the comments and formulas on 1:7 vrs1:9 and the ones on this site have it backwards. If you put the same load behind a lighter projectile, how can the heavier round travel futher ? Especially with the drag of a faster spin in the barrel?
The truth is you have to concider a lot of veriables.lingth of the barrel. muzzle velocity, 5.56 or .223, etc…
    The 1:7 in a 20″ barrelis is perfect for 55gr to 62gr.
Heavier bullets need a slower not faster rotation. If you don’t believe me, why do 7.62 NATO @ 168 to 173grs. uses a 1:10twist
The reason, I believe. the 1:9 was invevted was for the civillian carbines because it is a compromise to allow for just about any grain bullet while sacraficing accuracy.
The only thing that made the M-16 better than the Ak-47 was its accuracy, The 1:9 twist took that away,

  18. I used ARs in the service, accurate but finicky. A great weapon when one has hours of down time to clean and maintain. I have numerous different weapons each for specific purposes. I am a lifelong survivalist, my Mini-14 was purchased because despite all the bells and whistles, it remains the American version of the AK-47, a tank that takes a beating and comes back strong every time.

IMHO – The Mini-13 is a top-tier survival rifle. It eats just about everything it’s fed, easy to disassemble-clean-reassemble, it is accurate and (like ARs) there are a ton of them around.
My needs are short to mid range engagements, I want something that can effectively and reliably engage targets of both the 2&4 legged kind, protect my home, family and also put food on the table.

  20. Gunner, hands down. Oh sure, technically he’s a dog and it’s Hickock45’s channel, but still. Gunner is the star of the show. Second place would be Hickock45 himself, for a lot of the same reasons others have mentioned so far.

Yes, Hickock45 knows more about firearms than I do or may ever, and he’s a better shot, too, but he doesn’t beat me over the head with that. He does his thing and genuinely wants people to listen and learn for the sake of safety, responsibility and community. He doesn’t have a giant ego, doesn’t have anything to prove, and doesn’t mind admitting that he doesn’t necessarily know everything about everything.

Hickock45 is a great American and I’m grateful that he’s chosen to spend some time sharing his knowledge and wisdom with the rest of us.

    FPSRussia is dangerous and annoying.

Military Arms Channel’s Tim Harmsen is ****ing obsessed with his Tavor and gets pissy when people don’t agree with him on something. After reading his responses to people not caring much for his Krebs AK-15 (or what he lamely calls “The Sexy”) on Arfcom I lost a lot of respect for him.

  23. What am I supposed to do as a man to curb rape?
I can beat the offending parties all to hell, but if I do, I’m the one who will be called a savage and sent to prison.
And I have no need to alter the behavior of the men I’m friends with because they’re already not out raping people. I don’t befriend rapists, so my influence on rapists is pretty much nonexistent.

Aside from that, how is this empowering to women? Are we to train women that they must be dependent on men who just happen to be passing by to secure their safety?
How about instead, we just teach them to use handguns and give them real empowerment?

“Although the US Supreme Court ruling in the case of McDonald v City of Chicago struck down comprehensive local and statewide firearm bans, pediatricians should continue to advocate for the strongest possible legislative and regulatory approaches to prevent firearm injuries and deaths.”

This so-called study is little more than propaganda disguised in a medical publication to give it an air of legitimacy and objectivity.

  26. A general remark about YouTube gun channels:

I think it is great we have any/all of them to consider when making any purchasing decisions, looking to learn how to do anything with our firearms, from gunsmithing to shooting them, etc.

The gun rags are simply bought and paid for by firearm manufacturers. Google’s Adsense program makes it possible for there to be a lot more objectivity when we review firearms or talk about them because YouTube gun channel guys do not receive a penny in paid revenue from manufacturers and thus do not have to avoid pointing what in our view is the good, bad and/or ugly features of any particularly firearm.

And folks watching are able to get a lot of different points of view and make their own minds up.

  27. As a pediatric emergency medicine provider, it is this sort of paper that infuriates me. I read the source article, and the author’s avoidance of the obvious fact that a HUGE percentage of these hospitalizations are very likely related to gang violence is a lie of omission at best, and in my opinion deliberately misleading. The fact that they included patients up to the age of 19 and allowed those numbers to so drastically skew their statistics shows their obvious bias. Sadly, given the history of the hoplophobic AAP, I am not the least suprised.
