“Officers have seen what happens to their colleagues who have had to use lethal force to protect the public. Increasingly, they seem to be portrayed as suspects, based, I can only assume, on an underlying belief that they must have acted in a criminal fashion if someone has died.” – Outgoing Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe in London Bridge Attack: Why Most U.K. Police Don’t Carry Guns [via nbcnews.com]

  1. What else do you expect from the ignorant and apathetic Brits? Between then and the French I cannot decide who’s the lamest excuse for law enforcement officers ever. Sad and pathetic.

    • Remember, it was the voters who disarmed the cops… and themselves. It was the politicians who duped them all.

  2. Soldiers and cops. Society hates them until they’re needed. And then they still look down their noses at them.

    People aren’t worth the effort.

      • One of the many, many, many reasons I hate Tom Cruise. Every time he appears in a military movie, he makes a mockery of everything the US armed forces stand for.

        • I’m no Tom Cruise fan, but he didn’t write the script. It was a movie about a corrupt and powerful general who tried to cover up his misdeeds. Nicholson was outstanding in that role (which is why that line has become iconic) and Demi Moore looked pretty hot in her uniform.

    • After they are needed and finish perform their duty, they are hated again.
Nothing new, the same thing happened in ancient Rome.

      • If police act like occupying forces, which was what ancient Rome had, then they deserve our contempt.

    • For it’s Tommy this and Tommy that
      and throw the blighter out

But it’s thin gray line of heroes
When the guns begin to shout

    • With all due respect, you have obviously never lived in a country with un-accountable police for extended period of time.

  3. … and that’s why I think we need to pull cops completely out of those neighborhoods, cordon them off, give them about a month to sort it out, and if they fail, roll in the nerve gas.

  4. This is a product of the often-bizarre leftist narrative that ending a life is awful, no matter who’s life was ended (unless it’s a fetus, then carry on). The cultural Marxists want us to believe that even the most violent criminal is a treasure to society. No-one should use force of arms to solve a problem because ‘things aren’t worth someone’s life’ or because we’ve evolved or because it’s the current year. If you want to use force to protect your life, you’re sick.

So the Brits listened, and they lost their right to personal defense. Unfortunately, they’re finding that cultural Marxism is never sated. Not until you are burned up and dead. So now they’ve disarmed the cops because hey, you’re just facing knives, you don’t need a gun…

The end is always the same– societal collapse. The Brits are rolling down the road. I pray we don’t follow.

    • Actually, the UK police were (mostly) never armed by design. And for the most part it worked, even the bad guys were a bit more civilised, in the days of a little less cultural enrichment.

      • I’m referring to the fact that they are actually prosecuting the few armed cops for having the temerity to do their jobs, and finding that most cops just don’t want to be bothered. Did you read the article?

        • Yes, and the important point is context. UK coppers have (mostly) never been armed, and as regardless of the shifting winds of societal disapproval, have always faced scrutiny were they to have to shoot someone.

Yes, that’s amplified by the snowflake generation and their insane inculcation that a bad guy just needs more love and understanding. My point was that this undercurrent has always been an inherent part of UK unarmed policing – it just gets more press these days.

    • I agree, you’ve nailed it. This mentality will never be satisfied, you can’t placate it.

  5. If you want to only be armed with bottles, glasses and chairs when people who want to kill you have knives and vans, thats your business.
But please dont ask us to bail you out a third time.

    • … GOOD LUCK, with “don’t ask us to bail you out a third time.” as Trump has already opened the door for that ‘very concept/action’ to take place.

    • They would probably love to have the Yanks come in and clean out those neighborhoods so they don’t have to take the heat for it.

      • “They would probably love to have the Yanks come in and clean out those neighborhoods so they don’t have to take the heat for it because the Brits don’t have the constitution to do it themselves.”

        There, fixed that for you.

        • Plenty of Brits do — but their political masters will punish them for showing any spunk, which means it’s always double jeopardy when what you love is on the line: first you risk your safety to provide it for you and yours, and then you risk your liberty at the hands of stuffed shirts whose idea of risk is forgetting an umbrella when rain is forecast.

  6. Let’s be clear…I support local/city/state police…When they protect and uphold a US citizens Lawful Constitutional-Bill of Rights…UK is a different country all together…A “Left-wing, Globalist, surveillance state”… A benign form of “Authoritarianism”. Where the Government (tail) dictates what is good for them (wagging) the British citizenry (the dog.) For this is what happens to a Disarmed Society…As for the UK POLICE , a depends on the circumstances…In this case, when not correcting “Wrong-Thinking ” with it citizens, and actually engaged in a real ” protect and serve” scenario AGAINST foreign entities attacking (the disarmed population)…Then they are indeed doing their job….But, the people of UK have lost their rights to the common defense of self-defense, & baring of arms in their (constitutional) Monarchy…They need to step up and restore their rights…Like what we should be doing here in the USA, in states like Massachusetts, NJ, NY, MD.,CA., Connecticut, etc….Let Freedom ring…That will stop the terrorists…along with a wall of bullets from the civilians they attack….

  7. To be quite honest, police protect the offending populations from the host group. In the UK they’re more effective at tracking down patriotic facebook commenters than jihadists. Don’t think for a minute that normal Americans wouldn’t massacre dusky rioters if the police were off their backs.

    • Protester and rioters, I despise them. Mainly because I live in the Bay Area in the downtown. Every time something that the liberals don’t like happens, they protest and don’t let me or my niece sleep. Keeps my dogs barking too.

      • Citizen to san francisco cop: “If you leave I can just run these people over who are lying down in the street with my truck and end this right now.”
Cop to citizen: “I know. You and everybody else in this traffic jam want to do the same thing. We’re here to keep them from getting killed while they do their 1st amendment thing. We already read them the unlawful assembly declaration. We’ll be clearing the street in a minute.”
Protestor to cop: “You can’t silence us! The people united will never be defeated!”
While pointing at pissed off people stuck in traffic, Cop to protestor: “We’re not here to shut you up. We’re here to keep them from killing you.”
Protestor to cop: “Fuck you, you lying fascist pig!!!”
        Cop to himself: “sigh…..”

        • No, it’s worse here in Oakland downtown. I remembered once I was coming back on my Harley after a long 10 hours of wrenching on cars, they then decided to protest trump. There I was, a pissed off mexican with a hungry child at home. As you might understand it wasn’t going to end well if there wasn’t any police presence. Days like those are why I want to move to my ranch in Montana. Sadly, these ain’t the days of my grandfather and we can’t kill protesters like they did 100 years ago.

  8. The Brits are now completely balled up in the fetal position, which is exactly where the Muslims want them.

Americans should watch carefully and use this as a teachable moment for our children. Those who beat their swords into plowshares will then plow for those who kept their swords.

    • Curtis in IL,

Those who beat their swords into plowshares will then plow for those who kept their swords.

No, no, no: we don’t need swords because we will show our enemies how much we love them and welcome them to live among us … and our enemies will become our best friends and leave us to live our lives in peace, in spite of our ginormous fundamental differences.

  9. June 6, 1944… The world was saved from the Nazi so it could be given to the muzlums.

    Happy D-Day.

  10. Some police have complained that officers are reluctant to sign up for firearms training because they fear being dragged through years of lengthy investigations in the unlikely event they have to use their weapon.

Oh, bother. I wonder for how long an average self-defense case might drag, mmm? All those appeals etc., you know.

The IPCC’s bureaucracy is just what it is – bureacracy. And should not British police remember Jean Menezes case, which, despite a lot of noise, did not result in collective seppuku of MPS brass?

    • Such police should be dismissed. That attitude indicates they plan to run away if threatened, otherwise being armed would be seen as allowing you to survive to be harassed, rather than being dead and free of harassment. Running away because you are unarmed allows the best of both worlds, a lifetime of paid employment without ever planning to even attempt to do the real job. Fire them.

  11. The UK is a happy hunting grounds for the jihadiis. This country not so much. There is a pause to their actions and they seem to be favoring location s where guns are banned.
There is a reason of course. The UK is one giant gun free zone.

  12. Note that the attacker attempting to break into Parliament was immediately shot dead – they didn’t have to summon a reaction team. It seems that the police guarding the politicians do carry guns. It’s just those protecting the serfs that don’t.

England – and much of Europe – is controlled by elites, who consider the others as peasants. This feudal attitude is part of their history. The USA was founded in part to escape from that type of soft slavery.

But the proglodytes in this country are fighting to import that system to the US. Coastal “elites” vs flyover country “peasants”.

    • Ding! Ding! Ding!
We have a winner…. someone has looked behind the curtain and seen the wizards naked backside! Ugly aint it?

  13. Jorden Peterson, a psychologist and professor at the University of Toronto (who happens to also dislike/argue with SJW’s on the regular) has a really interesting breakdown of how “postmodern” thought has lead to people thinking the kind of things that the commissioner is talking about. I don’t agree with everything he says but it’s still a fascinating look at how these people think, er… well don’t think. LOL.

It’s like a three hour long form interview but slap Podcast Addict on your phone and listen while you workout/walk/whatever. Really, Joe Rogan might be the best interviewer on the planet and he certainly gets more interesting people than Larry King ever did.

It’s over on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast site, #958 or, as I said, you can get it via Podcast Addict.

    • If you don’t have time for a 3 hour podcast, there are shorter videos on YouTube (still 30 minutes-plus, but shorter) of Jordan Peterson doing his thing in interviews and conferences.

This guy really does know how the SJWs and proglodytes think, and how intellectual culture got them (us) there.

Absolutely worth a listen. And he’s written some very good articles and opinion pieces, too.

      • This is why I love Podcast Addict. A friend of mine recommended it to me and now I listen to interviews like this while doing all sorts of stuff where I used to listen to music. When you’re done doing whatever just pause and come back to the interview later.

Nothing wrong with music but when you can do something useful and learn something useful at the same time it’s pretty awesome.

You might not think a long form interview with a guy who researches mountain lions and coyotes would be interesting but it’s absolutely fascinating. Did you know there are coyotes living, in packs, in all the boroughs of NYC as well as downtown areas of every other major city?

I really can’t recommend it enough, but the interview I mentioned earlier is something every TTAGer should listen to if they want an understanding of how SJWs and anti-gunners actually operate. But yes his YouTube and other stuff is great too.

  14. Sending a cop out with a whistle and nothing else of value is all well and good if blowing the whistle summons all the able-bodied citizens around him to help subdue the criminal. But when you tell the population that they should “run, hide, tell” that ain’t gonna fly.

In the recent attack cops got there 2 minutes after the beginning. Not bad. But it took 6 minutes more until cops with guns arrived who could actually stop the bad guys. How many people died in those 6 minutes? How many more will die the next time?

    Insanity.

  15. In a jurisdiction where there is basically no right of self defense or defense of others for private citizens, the private citizens would and should expect prosecutions in every homocide. Even when the homicide is a police shooting of a killer engaged in killing.
