Of all the scandals bedeviling the Obama administration, the data mining scandal seems to be the one with “legs.” Why wouldn’t it? We now know that Uncle Sam knows which porn sites we frequent. Personally, I’m more freaked out by the fact that the feds think that data mining is an effective anti-terrorist strategy. Hello? Human intelligence is, was and always will be our best defense against bad guys. (Check out this British intelligence failure.) Never mind. Despite concerns about feds outing fetishists, the majority of the American public is OK with electronic surveillance. They like the bloodlessness of data mining and drones. The want to be One Nation Under Cops. And they sure don’t want to think about carrying a gun or personally confronting a bad guy. This collective wimpiness is a cancer eating away at our liberty. Am I wrong?

      • I like the +1, conceptually, however – We have to assume that 1% of those ABLE to fight will stand and fight. If only 1/3 of the population is men of militia qualification ages and there may be an additional few women who take up the cause, we are now in the range of 1 million, not three. The question is not what percentage will actually stand and fight, but what percentage will actively oppose us.

        • “The question is not what percentage will actually stand and fight, but what percentage will actively oppose us.”

Well, current US population is estimated at 313.9 million and there are roughly 4 million combined police, military, and federal agents….so that’s about 1.27% of the population against us.

        • Yes, true, but realistically, what percentage of those police, military, etc. will oppose us and how many are actually on our side? They are not all mindless robots who will turn against their countrymen and the constitution.

        • I think many of the generation that witnessed 9/11 and signed up in the months and years that followed are of another stripe, a throwback to the Greatest Generation, patriotic, often religious, and believers in Liberty. Many of these are already planning to join us, including many LEOs and active duty military. I don’t know if it will swing the needle to “Success” but it improves the odds.
Better to die standing than live on your knees.

        • Cliff, US history shows that most, if not all, of them will gladly follow orders to kill us. People always like to believe the propaganda about the military being kind and righteous people, but the reality shows that they are more than willing to kill unarmed innocents when told to be their masters.

        • I’m guessing that if there is another revolution, the numbers will probably be 1/3 for, 1/3 against, and 1/3 that waits to see who wins. Gender is irrelevant in the equation.

        • I’m “fighting” right now – as we “speak.” I’m fighting the battle of ideas. 😉

          Penn Jillette for president 2016!

    • Actually, it’s more like a third. Just as in the American revolution.
This number is pretty consistent throughout our nations history.
A third supported going to war against the South, against
Germany and Japan, even in Vietnam. A third are for it, a third are against it, and a third can’t make up their damned minds.
      It’s a lot more than 1%.

      • You are correct. America loves to be told what to do…….until they DONT like being told what to do. I think the 14′ midterms will reveal a few trends. This last month or so has been a DISASTER for the current administration. If Obummercare fizzles, what will the last six or so years really have been about. Hope, Change and Transparency were the filthiest of lies.

  1. America is too wrapped up in the next Kardashian mutant, or E-freaking-news, to pay attention to what’s going on around them.

The unfortunate thing is, most Americans don’t deserve America.

  2. “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage”.

  4. The problem with over broad brush stroke statements like this is they fail to take into account, that indeed, one size does not fit all.

  5. People that believe as we do and our way of life are doomed. Look to the cities of the northeast and the west coast to see our future. It’s a simple numbers game.

  6. RF asked, “This collective wimpiness is a cancer eating away at our liberty. Am I wrong?”

I believe wimpiness is eating away at our liberty. In many respects wimpiness and cowardice are forms of laziness. And when a mass of people are lazy, all it takes is one industrious or ruthless person to take advantage of them.

In other words everyone wants the end result but no one wants to do the work and get their hands dirty. That has been the downfall of every society.

  7. Couple of things about the photo above. Dude in front has his booger hook where it belongs. Dude behind him,no. And am I the only one that looked at that picture and the first thing that flashed thru my mind was “Raiders Fans.”

  8. The ones in the MSM are the ones who wouldn’t mind One Nation Under the Stazi. They think if SHTF they’ll be protected and coddled by the government.

  9. I have said before that this country is an unbelievably benign nation. Just think of all the monsters that walk the streets in perfect safety. Retribution is prohibited speech.

Consider our founders and what caused them to take up arms. To start shooting their government officials. The founders would shake their heads at us today and what we are putting up with.

    • “Benign”? Could you say that to a poor family of subsistence goatherds who are about to be DRONED?

      Probably beats Gitmo, though.

  10. After living abroad (In Italy) for the past 13 years I can certainly tell you with absolute certainty that it is the worst form of Cancer…and is terminal for a democracy. In Italy everyone is recorded and anything can be used against you at any time from a legislative system that works about as well as a 1977 Fiat 128. The cops stop anyone for any reason and ask for documents at a moments notice. The Italian IRS police stop anyone they want, but mostly stop High End Expensive cars and SUV’s….and the government officials at the lowest levels make 3x what out US president makes. If we dont grow some balls, and right quick, this is our destiny. On the other hand, balls are sensitive…we need to grow a vagina…those things can take a pounding. 😉

    • Of course as described, Italy looks like a dictatorship, but the Italian police did not even remotely the freedom of action of the American police. What the Italians complain, it is a lack of control of the police, not an excess.

  11. You called it right RF. This has become a nation of pussies.. Yup wimps, wienies, whiners, and takers. Most will get on those FEMA trains without so much as a complaint. The only question now is, where is the line in the sand?? Anyone??

    • They’ll complain there’s no showers on the train.

BE PATIENT, Ma’am; there’s showers as soon as we get there…

      • Hey, as long as there’s a wi-fi connection on the train, it’s all good! Maybe add some HDTVs in the trains as well, with some American Idiot Idol to watch, along with some Kardashian filth, and they’ll happily walk to their deaths, smartphone or tablet in hand with their eyes glued to the screen…

I hate to say it, but when that inevitable extermination happens, they will deserve it.

The best thing that can happen to America would be a foreign (or even extraterrestrial) power invading us, and enslaving us for a generation or three. Make people realize how good they had it, and make them fight to get what they had back. Although, most Americans are so overweight, out of shape, and have eaten so much crap their whole lives, that most of them would be lucky to be sold as source of heating fuel, let alone as food, instead of as a source of slave labor…

        • The sheeple aren’t the ones who get consumed. For the most part, as long as they have their bread and circuses, they couldn’t give half a hoot less about abstract concepts like “Liberty.” “Who cares if drugs are illegal? I don’t do drugs!”

But actually, according to Harry Browne, the only thing that’s necessary for a person to be free is to just Be Free.
see “How I Found Freedom in an Unfree World”

The invasion has already taken place, and the Communists have taken over Washington DC. We’ve lost. Surrendered. Like France to Hitler.

          Viva la Resistance!

    • There is no line in the sand. Only idle talks and hushed whispers. The truth is that nothing is going to happen until the government implodes from its own greed and inefficiency. And by that time, we’ll be unarmed, unskilled, and unable to provide for own own needs.

      We’re pretty much fvcked.

  12. As an eternal optimist, I’m always thinking the American Spirit (the III%ers) will shine through… and when the balloon actually does go up, the disarmed frightened sheep will simply make easier targets.

  13. Defense of terrorism assumes conspiracy. Conspiracy requires communication. Tracking communication, without even knowing the contents of that communication, allows for identification of various potential co-conspirators. Is the fact that the NSA is doing data mining surprising? Heck no, it has been going on for decades. NSA has been monitoring international communications, and computers have merely allowed it to more efficiently find the needle in the proverbial haystack. When we had the transoceanic cable, all communications were monitored. Today, all satellite communications are monitored by machines that search out key words and phrases in multiple languages, and bring up the content of targeted communications to analysts. The NSA is the world’s largest intelligence organization, as has been for years. Its analysts read every published newspaper, monitor web sites, and track the movements of known terrorists and their associates through monitoring of cellular traffic. Of course, the vast majority of stuff is filtered out long before it reaches human eyes of ears–it would be impossible to actually monitor in real time all of the “hay,” and the vast majority of it is of no consequence to anyone but the participants–like calling home to find out if you need to stop at the store, and so on and so forth. Millions upon millions of calls everyday. It is after all a big planet. Big Brother is watching, but he is not all knowing nor all powerful.

    • Hmm. Maybe the Chinese hackers are coming in by piggybacking on NSA’s probe-bots.
Wouldn’t that be ironic – we go to the Chinese hackers, and have them surveil NSA?
      >;->

  14. The general population has been bought off with Bread and Circuses ala the Roman Empire. Free stuff (food, phones etc) and entertainment (cable tv and other crap).

    Steelheart

    • That’s what I’ve been calling it. And it becomes more and more true each day.
That’s why I don’t have kids. Because “sorry, I tried” isn’t going to even begin to cover the world they would inherit.

    • You beat me to it buddy. I’m not happy about it. But I accept it. Because I’ve been pussified. But not really.

  15. No one knows how many would rise up because the government is still afraid to have it out in the open. This has been going on for 7 years and is only a story now? Those who are ok with this level of state power only are because they don’t think it will affect them. It will, of course, and the sooner they realize it, the faster it can be confronted. The current Scandal Administration may yet swing the pendulum into a more healthy distrust of government.

  16. “This collective wimpiness is a cancer eating away at our liberty. Am I wrong?”
Short answer: No! Unfortunately, you are right.

  17. America won’t be destroyed by Russians or terrorists. We will be destroyed by pussies in our midst.

  18. Agreed. Its not like back in the old days when people would get together to actively fight something, be it corrupt government or a purse snatcher, now everyone is afraid of lawsuits and offending someone making us all docile compared to what we were.

      • Absolutely. You’re right. The problem here is the two-party system; what we need is more parties to call out the GOP and the Dems on their screwups and mistakes. Having more parties at debates or more parties receiving media attention would be great.

        • The problem with this is there are no more debates based on who has the best ideas wins. Now it’s all about demonizing your opponent by any means necessary.

    • It also shows that old and angry people (over 50) are big supporters of an oppressive government. God I can’t wait for the Boomers to start dying out…

      • Well, there are some “old angry people (over 50)” who are vehemently opposed to “oppressive government” and you are hearing from one now. It will be a long time before the Baby Boomers start dying-off. By then you will be an old angry person and I hope you and your ilk are in the Majority by then…if all is not already lost. Right now I am working on a design for a walker with a harness and mount for an M1A, so if the time comes I can hobble out and loose at least one magazine full at the Statist’s Stormtroopers before they shoot me down (armoring the contraption has turned out to be a bitch)….;-)

  19. Not that long ago the IDF had the same problem. They were camped in the valley of Elah. The PM would not fight and none of the generals or soldiers would either.

Some kid from a kibbutz was visiting his brothers in the IDF because they could not go home on leave. He learned that the PM had offered a 10 million + (in USD) to the man who would fight against the gentile champion.

The PM was Saul, the kid was David, and the rest is history. It takes only one man to inspire a nation. Look at the dudes in the pic: they are going against gunships & drones w/ AKs. I despise their cause and admire their conviction.

Inshallah and by HaShem when the time to throw down arises – I hope and pray I will not puss out and I hope and pray that many men around me will not. Amen.

      • Bloodthirsty warmongers sicken me.

Why do they refuse to see that the Islamic hatred for Xtians is a direct response to the Crusades?

I say “Xtians” because anyone who attacks another is certainly no Christian. Jesus never said, “Go forth and murder non-Christians.”

        • >> Why do they refuse to see that the Islamic hatred for Xtians is a direct response to the Crusades?

That is untrue. Bringing up Crusades to justify animosity towards Christians (and the West in general) is a relatively recent development, from about 19th century. Crusades were not out of the line back in the day, neither in motives nor in body count. Remember that Muhammad had spread his faith by the sword to far bigger swaths of land centuries before Crusades, and his successors continued the policy – North Africa, Spain, Constantinople, Balkans… Back then, it was taken for granted by both sides in that conflict that might makes right, and no hard feelings over that; today infidels win, tomorrow mujahideen win more.

  20. My thoughts on the country I love… There is a majority of people out there that don’t care one damn bit about this country. I call them the entitled ones, all they care about is how much they are entitled too, how new of an i-phone they have whats Kim K wearing today?… they wouldn’t know a hard days work if it bit them in there asses. I blame that on their Parents ( no tough love/ no values) The schools and colleges on the other hand have done a fine job brainwashing the masses for the last 20 years they programmed the masses to not hurt others feelings ….to…to be meek and let the government take care of you, to follow and conform. Case in point the young man in texas that tried to give his own high school speech about the constitutional rights we have and had the mikes turned off in mid sentence where is his right to the 1A what gives the teachers the right to silence him.. you have small masses of groups i.e …athiests…muslums…gays, that think because they have different beliefs the other 99% should conform to their level as to not “hurt their feelings” I say FOAD you don’t like when i pray go outside and have a smoke till im done you don’t like christmas and all the decor that goes with it? then don’t look at it . YOU are out numbered you can leave this country if you don’t like it.. I was at a fair on memorial day here in Dallas texas …at the beginning they start the fair off with the pledge of allegiance …and when it came to the sentence “one nation under god” they purposely left out the word “god” everyone in the crowd started looking at each other like WTF..our present government is at the root cause of this unraveling they want to keep us in a totalitarianism state I for one will not confirm and will die if need be protecting the rights given to us by the framers It only way to change this peacefully is to VOTE…

    • Allow me to point out that “…under God” was an addition to the pledge of allegiance made in the 50’s. It was NOT originally part of the pledge of allegiance.

Personally, I take issue with the pledge of allegiance altogether. The pledge swears an oath to the state and government (read: oath of statism) rather than to the constitution. Every morning when our children recite the pledge of allegiance in school, they are affirming their willingness to defend what we all hate.

As an aside, I find it amusing that you complain about somebody leaving “…under God” out of the pledge of allegiance but fail to show proper respect to God by capitalizing the name. Please do not be offended, I just had to chuckle at the irony.

  21. Freedom, self defense, and meat acquisition have 1 thing in common. No one wants to, or has the balls to do it fore them selves. They won’t demand our government carry out our wishes as opposed to the administration’s agendas, they won’t secure the means to defend ourselves and think giving up our liberties to the “authorities” will end crime and they condemn hunting while driving home from the butcher. I’ve seen an anti hunting post suggesting hunters just go to the supermarket so animals won’t be killed for meat. The individualism that built the society is demonized as selfish and not “progressive” therefor not 21st century thinking. Yes, the % of pussies in our county will result in our being subdued like so many kittens.

  22. It all started in school , the boys cut out paper dolls etc, our education system is run by the Female for females , next the church has the boys cut out paper dolls, and now woman in the military … IF you do not see the problem? , gays in everything… This nation that can not stand.. The Bible says I(GOD SAYS) will take away your mighty man of war, because you have turned your back on the real GOD.. We had man like Davie Crockett and Jim Bowie who said I will Die first , to 6000 attackers . (it is reported they killed 400+ that will never happen today………GET YOUR KIDS out of the hell holes (public schools) no knives in school …Give me a break. no guns in the back of your pickup … Get REAL!!

  23. Fear and handouts. Fear of retribution, and willingness to accept handouts. The sloth of a great portion of the population has ground america down fiscally. Putting values in place for everyone to accept responsibility for their actions that place them in dire situations won’t happen over night. It will take generations of effort and experience to do this. If there isn’t an armed resistance, it will take even longer (as we know the political machine is lubed with concrete).

    • I agree. The teabaggers are a perfect example of this. Right wing proto-fascists always pop up after right wing economics tank the economy, though.

  24. Living in CA, its easy to see the {|}ification of this nation. There are free states, but the trend of adding news laws everywhere continues apace. This nation will not vote to minimize entitlement or to consolidate government – at least not on a national level. Mitt Romney got grilled for remarking that ~49% of the nation was on some form of welfare. And those on welfare were *offended*. Golly gosh jeepers, what a terrible thing to say!

So yes, this is largely a nation of wimps, with more being added every day. You should see the panic at fender benders. People think they are going to die because their “neck is sore,” and they are “feeling dizzy.”

One of the things I respect about hunting is the patience required to wait days in freezing temperatures for a single shot.

  25. Cowardice is the fuel on which the liberty destroying machine runs. All the anti’s, all the progressives have it in common, cowardice combined with a sick veneer of elitism and cut with a limbic level hatred of anything and anyone that demonstrates their failings to them; namely patriots, the courageous, and those willing and able to provide for their own upkeep and security. They foist concepts such as ‘political correctness’ on us so that they have standing to object when we call them weak, cowardly and sniveling thieves and beggars. They demand our disarmament since they cannot and would not defend themselves and hate us because we can and would. They demand we surrender what we create to them for redistribution to those who cannot or will not produce for themselves so that these unworthies will stand behind them, if only to ensure the flow of ill-gotten goods continues unabated. All the while they promise their welfare recipient, public housed, food stamp collecting supporters not only more of our stuff, but that they, the liberal elite, will bring the rest of us low so that those who won’t support themselves and won’t defend themselves will no longer have our example to shame them.
In short, yes, cowardice is what is destroying the nation.

  26. America lost it’s nerve 46 years ago when the President and a highly place admiral let a foreign nation attack one of our naval ships, kill 34 Americans and wound 176. Remember the USS Liberty.

        • The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy ship the USS Liberty, by Israeli Air Force and Navy back in 1967.

        • The attack was due to mistaken identity. Israel apologized for the attack and paid out millions of dollars to the family’s of those that were on the ship. Why did you fail to mention this important information Chris Mallory?

        • Funny Leo, the only people who say it was “mistaken identity” are the Israelis. The sailors on the ship called it a deliberate attack that lasted hours. Why do you take the words of a foreign nation over those of Americans?

      • He’s referring to the Isreali attack on the Liberty, an intelligence ship, during the 1967 war in the mideast. People that are anti Isreali like to point this out as an example of the perfidious Jew.

They ignore the Pueblo, fired on and captured by North Korea, with it’s crew held and tortured for a year. They ignore all the otherand there’ve been many more, where incidents were let go to avoid a war. It’s only the evil Jew that must be held to account.

        • I an not Anti Israeli. I am Pro America. There has never been a true investigation. The sailors were ordered by Admiral McCain to not say what really happened. The sailors on the ship, including the captain say it was not a mistake.

I put America first. The interests of America come before those of every other nation.
We aren’t sending billions of tax dollars every year to North Korea.
The question I have to ask you, why do you put the interests of another nation before those of the United States? Which nation gets your loyalty, it doesn’t seem to be America.

        • Yes, I’m an American and I put my country first. When you’re on the deck of a ship how does an accidental attack look different from a deliberate attack? Pueblo, KAL 007 with Americans including a congressman aboard. Who knows how many American aircraft shot down in undeclared skirmishes against the soviets over the Bering straights and seas? There’s hardly an adminstration that hasn’t had to deal with some sort of incident like this one that doesn’t end in all out war.

          Why pick this one out?

  27. Americans haven’t lost their nerve. We’ve always been a live and let live people. What we have lost is leadership. Who would lead our civil war or rebellion against the state? The men who framed the constitution, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt. These were all flawed men that rose to the occasion when the need was there. Who do we have now? Alex Jones?

  28. I don’t think it’s people losing their nerve so much as people just feeling powerless to do much about any of it. Also, the media isn’t harping it as much. If this was Bush, they’d be hyping it to no end I believe.

  29. It’s similar to people not wanting to know what happens at the slaughterhouse, otherwise they may become vegans/vegetarians.

I am trying to go through the process now in a Rhode Island city to try and get the Chief to at least send me the application for CCW. I hear he ignores them in his “shall issue” city and tries to kick them up to the “may issue” AG’s office.

  30. RF: yes, it is. About 4 months ago my boss asked me to speak to a group of High School students about careers in military health care. Out of a out 160 kids, only 4 were actually interested in SERVING… Another 20 or so were willing to exchange time for training, but not if it meant having to go into harm’s way. Several actually admitted to me, ‘I’m too afraid of getting shot’, even though as health care/staff officer types we are pretty well protected. From talking to them, this comes from their parents. With the exception of those 4 young men and women (actually more women than men!) no one else ‘got it’. There is literally NOTHING they would lay down their lives for. Their only concern was to make as much money as possible, as fast as possible, with as little personal risk as possible. They are willing to live behind the shield, but will not willingly be a part of it. This is what a culture of cowardice looks like.

    • Or maybe those kids just realistically look at what they will be called to serve and die for. It’s one thing when your country is actually in threat, but that is a very distant possibility today. Soldiers in service are far more likely to find themselves into some whatever-stan “bringing democracy” to the locals who hate their guts and want to stab them in the back, for no benefit whatsoever to their country. Why would anyone volunteer for that?

  31. When a guy dutifully carries his guns to the nearest CT cop barn for confiscation over an egg fight from 1971, yeah, its pretty much a ball less horizon out there. Salute the new feminists running the Armed Forces if you doubt it.

  33. The 50%, or so, of the Nation that have bought-in to the Socialist Progressive Agenda would never fight for their Political Masters, which may turn-out to be a key factor the Socialist Progressives (contemporary Communists) now in charge of the Country have grossly miscalculated. Those of us who want to preserve The Republic are lacking Leadership and cohesion, which may be our undoing. Should we find a Leader, there is a risk that person will be a demagogue too far in the other direction.

Should this come to violent conflict, the huge majority of the State’s wimpified thralls will just become a mill stone tied securely around the State’s neck…clamoring to be protected, fed and cared for, and only good for “Operation Human Shield”…

I think you are not wrong, but not entirely right, either. There are still enough Americans who want to preserve The Republic and have the nerve to do whatever it takes, but need (desperately) to get united before the balance point we are at tips too far against them. That tipping point arrives at the 2014 and 2016 National Elections. However they come-out will be the difference.

  34. The majority of americans are good little sheep who are more than happy to obey their COMMIE masters. These fools have the right to do as they’re told and to never question their masters commands.

  35. They have lost their nerve.

The fact that the American public has allowed this to happen is remarkable.

Remarkable because of the ignorance of our founding documents and warnings from our founding fathers.

Such things happen to empires. The end result is the same: nothing good.

  36. It’s a pernicious virus, to be sure, and it’s infected all of society. One of my own offspring recently expressed interest in serving in the military when he came of age, but was hesitant because he feared he would be maimed or killed. I was taken aback, but appreciated that he was being open with me.
