By now you’ve probably seen this teaser ad floating through the nether regions of ballistic cyberspace. It may or may not be genuine. Either way, there’s likely to be more traffic at GLOCK’s SHOT Show booth than a Wally World Black Friday sale. Speculation as to exactly what the gun will be is all over the board, but seems to center on one of three variants: 1) a slim, single stack 9mm 2) something in .22 LR, or 3) a late-to-the-party .380 entry. I’ll take door number one, Monty. Whether the G42 is for real or some Photoshop jockey’s idea of a good time, Gaston’s group has to come out with a new gun some day, right? If and when, what will it be?

Is the person in the pic at the beginning of this article Carrot Top? I’m just saying.
Well, so long as it’s not that (photoshopped) ‘Glock 1911’ pic that’s been floating around the intarwebz for a couple of years now…
Most speculation that I have seen is that the g42 will be a micro .380. The other rumor is that there is a 41 that will be a longside 45
What’s worse is that this is a de facto registration of weapons IN OTHER STATES and OWNED OR POSSESSED BY ANOTHER CITIZEN.
That’s right. You have to rat out who ever or wherever you sold/took those guns to. And I’ll bet you can’t just say mummblety mumblety and expect they’ll let it slide.
This isn’t just an infringement on the owner’s rights but it’s an infringement on the rights and privacy of citizens of ANOTHER STATE. Who is NOT under the jurisdiction of New York.
This. This is what “Liberalism” is all about. Being compliant units of the all powerful State. And ratting out your fellow citizens.
The only way this stops is if people don’t comply and get arrested.
It is going to be a little prism that shoots rainbows, duh.
The open discourse and variety of opinions here is more a marketplace of ideas than most universities (claim to be while being bastions of liberalism).
Years ago when Virginia enacted law to start a state lottery, the Governor appointed the most critical opponent of the law as the Chairman of the Commission.
In this spirit, lets suppose that YOU, the 2A absolutist, have been appointed Chairman of the Federal “Reasonable Gun Control” Committee. You have been charged with providing to Congress a list of no less than FIVE model gun laws that may be considered for implementation, at the expense of existing laws to be discarded. Basically you have the opportunity to craft limited and Constitutionally palatable gun control and/or gun safety laws OUT OF A VACUUM. GO!
This would make a good Chapter 1 to a manual. More chapters delving into specifics are needed. Damn fine primer though.
“Progressives are essentially a sickness on our Soul!!!
Strange I can get 55gr FMJ for ten cents a bullet and powder for $20 a pound. Your pricing is off if you are into shooting a lot and or hunting reloading is much much better than buying overpriced ammo in the stores now. .308 Win is especially over priced at a buck a round for cheap military surplus. Half a dollar for 5.56mm FMJ which is ridiculas. If you can follow safety rules and buy components for a good price its better and cheaper than buying the over bloated prices the ammo makers sell ast your store.
This writer is way off.
My guess is a single-stack 9mm pocket pistol. They don’t make a .22LR or a .380 ANYTHING, and I don’t see them starting now.
I’d dearly love for it to be the first Glock carbine but I think it’ll just be a 380 they’ve had trouble importing.
Nice. Thankfully, I’m certain my whole family is on board with 2a, though I almost miss the chance to debate. It’s tough to Sway people you care about without alienating them.
I’d love for a glock carbine. I love, love, love the hi-point carbines. And I keep a .40 hi-point in my toolbox(I’m not throwing a $400+ gun in my truck/boat to slide around in a metal toolbox and scratch up, sorry) maybe they could improve on kel-teks sub2000.
I’d be happy if Glock could make an improved Sub 2000 and Ruger an improved SU16. Most keltec guns suffer from great innovation coupled with poor execution.
Exactly. Oh and the PMR30. its nice and I want one BAD. But cheapest I’ve found yet was $850 plus tax. I bought a north american arms 22 mag revolver for $210 instead.
My M&P15 eats steel ammo no problem so its what I shoot. I have the supplies and brass to reload but its not cost effective right now. I’ve got a 300BLK upper though and its definitely worth it to reload that with good bulleets.
Wow….was your Dad a Viet Nam vet?
I’m so glad to see my 30% (taxes) in my many paychecks in the 60’s finally have reached their zenith!
Instead of EBT cards, and Social Services and entitlement programs for NEW people to the U.S., we got kids like you to invest in at Wall Street, thank you…
all American man here!!!!
Great piece.
This is one of the things I appreciate about my family — we can disagree about some pretty fundamental things, but we always agree that whatever the issue is, it’s less important than we are to each other. And they’re good debate opponents, too; I’m related to some very smart people. You won’t get anywhere just tossing unsupported talking points around. They’re willing to listen and consider, but you’d better bring some logic and evidence to the discussion.
It’s a point well worth making: the American Dream is not the same thing to all Americans. Nor does it have to be…because this is America.
Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.
The common myth is that reloading saves you money. No, it allows you to shoot more. 😉
Convenience is also nice. I literally save “time, gas and money” loading 500 rounds of .223, 9mm, 45, 308, etc. in a hour. Usually as a last minute to-do before the shooting competition/class/weekend getaway….
Good advice. The only thing I would add is that you need to have your sources and references ready. I guarantee you that the first response you will get to any statement you make is going to be “I can’t believe that’s true” or “where in the world did you hear that?”.
Don’t make the mistake of sending them to a rabidly conservative website, either. If the first thing they see at the top of the page is a picture of Obama with horns and a pitchfork, they’re unlikely to read any further. You also don’t want to complicate matters by sending them somewhere with prominent headlines on divisive subjects like abortion or tax resisters. Stick to the subject at hand.
Your best bet is to search out supporting articles and comments from sources they are likely to already respect. As noted above, even the NYT occasionally prints something sensible. Look for studies supporting our position from academics, government bodies, etc. they’re out there. On reflection, that list would make a useful stickie on the blog.
It IS possible to change people’s minds (assuming they have one – don’t waste your time on buffoons). I’ve done it. I’ll bet you’ve done it too. We CAN win this!
Fight hard! Fight smart! Fight on!
As a young man I ignored the .243. Not enough horsepower for me. I have been giving it a second look of late. More and more my son is dragging me back to the hunting side. He’s going pheasant hunting this week end, my absolute favorite.
In order to get my license in Ca. I have to take the hunter safety class. I’m signing up for one that will be in January. My initial thought is to shotgun hunt pheasants, quail, etc.
But if I decide to deer hunt it’s probably time I sidelined my old .30-30. The .243 would be more than enough caliber for the smallish deer we get around here. Easier for a fat old fart to carry, too.
The TSX/TTSX is a truly impressive bullet for me. It shows a significant increase in accuracy over my tried-n-true choice of bullets, the Nosler Partition.
Thanks Tyler for a good review- and a question you and Dyspeptic-and tdiinva- who mentioned he’d be interested in that for a custom AR build-
why the .243?
Happy Turkey Day!
If they do come out with a sub 3 inch 9mm.
It too might become my 1st Glock,
I did my best shooting ever 1st time out of a box with the then new G23.
But it was so butt ugly and plastic. I bought a Hi-Power in 40 S&W instead.
Now 25 years later give or take.
I might just own a plastic gun???
Nahhhhhhhhhh
All guns should be Glocks, all Glocks 9mm, all 9mm Glocks the model #19…………… that being said I’m going with a .380 and single stack 9 & 40.
Great job by Kevin Vick – Crucible Arms. Had to go look this up, as I have seen how Minneapolis changed from midwest middle of the road, to liberal over the last couple decades, not unlike other mid-sized cities in the US-
To the open carry advocates- I am with you- the point is this, its how you do it:
this video is a good example of positive and professional persuasion, done strategically- to inform and thus separate the independent reasonable thinkers from the radical left grabbers, and also,
when to make the smart tactical move, ie to ‘NOT be a d!ck” like here:
http://www.minnpost.com/political-agenda/2013/06/twin-cities-gun-owners-carry-forum-cancels-plan-display-guns-open-streets-f
If you read the article by MPR the local affiliate of NPR, here:
http://blogs.mprnews.org/cities/2013/11/video-firearms-carry-permit-holders-are-people-in-your-neighborhood/
and the comments by their readers there, you will see a thoughtful treatment, by MPR, vs the typical State Run Media propaganda, and more of same in the comments- the reasonable educational approach works.
Good job TTAG for passing it along!
You only have to much ammo if your on Fire or Drowning,
Very cool! I’d take about 20 pounds of that h335.
Interesting. A group of people who enjoy waving the 2nd Amendment flag, criticizing “C” for exercising his right to the 1st.
Now, let’s be clear. I disagree with him entirely. I believe that these things are great. I’ve used one, and am seriously considering purchasing one right now(to mount on a .22LR rig, to save cash on the ammunition I’ll undoubtedly burn). I would take it to my local range and enjoy the hell out of it. And yes, I don’t expect it’s ever going to do me much good in a defensive situation, or to improve my accuracy.
Mostly, though, I shoot because it’s FUN. I hunt a couple times a year, but I shoot thousands upon thousands of rounds at the range purely for recreation. I like to take my long-range rig out and ring the 1000-yard bell. I like to take a bunch of the boys out and blast through a couple of cases of shells and clays. I like to practice mock-defensive shooting drills with pistols and shotguns. Sometimes, I just like to take my .22 out and blow cans off a tree stump. I do all of those things for FUN. And, in my opinion, and the opinion of obviously thousands of others, these things are a blast. And so, I’m of the opinion that if you can safely handle a firearm, you go right ahead and do it, regardless of whether it’s a bolt-action, a bump-fire semi-auto, or a full-auto.
If my range were to say to me that my bump-fire stock was not appreciated and they were no longer allowing it at the range, I’d seriously reconsider keeping my membership at that range. Because that’s how it needs to work. Vote with your wallet. But if a guy wants to spout off his opinion regarding a product, he’s entitled to that. That he’s decided that use of said product makes one a “sissy”, well, I for one will leave him to that childish, narrow-minded opinion. But I don’t think everyone needs to jump all over the guy for sharing his opinion.
I’m glad we don’t share a range, C. But if you’re happy with the decision to ban bump-fire stocks from your range, power to you.
And I don’t think anyone is buying your “Camp Perry has something to do with who I am” and “competitive shooting champion and military guy” BS. If you want to tell us who you are, go right ahead, and let those credentials be proven and work for or against your argument. If you want to remain anonymous and drop hints about your vague, supposed credentials, please keep in mind that you come off like the 16-year-old kid who claims he’s a SEAL Team 6 sniper because he played Call of Duty or watched Zero Dark Thirty too many times.
The tragedy comes from his parents not paying enough attention to their son. If they had they would have realized he was dangerously unstable and his mom should have taken more precautions toprevent his access to the guns, not teach him how to use it.
And broaden the definition of assualt weapons? Please tell me what that means….. sounds like it means anything they don’t like.
High capacity magazines??????? I do believe they are called standard capacity magazines.
How is this news? Since when do you see any gun (or ads showing guns at the end) ads on TV?
Wow. That milk toasty bit of video is what the whole screeching match is about? Really? All the offensive crap that NFL supports and THAT is what has their pink panties in a bunch. Incredible.
You want some violence? Look down on the field. Just what do you think the defense is trying to do to the quarterback?
Do not like it…do not watch NFL/Super Bowl. But, you know what…many of you who claim you are pro-gun will still watch the Super Bowl. Man-up and do not watch. Boycott, just like TTAG said when they would not promote CTD…whoops they did a few days ago.
This review hit all the points. I’m looking at the problem of how to specify an SAA in .45 for SASS competition, essentially an updated build of the 1890 Flat Top Target SAA. Driftable-for-windage rear sights had been allowed under the rules of several major target-pistol competitions of the 1890’s prior to being adopted as USGI for the Caliber .45″ Model of 1911 autopistol and its 1922 National Match upgrade. Would the 7-1/2″ barrel (as in the original Model of 1873), or the 5-1/2″ (used on civilian models prior to the Model of 1873 Alteration of 1896) be the most appropriate for an action-shooter with full-power .45-40-255 black-powder loads? 1890 target front sight as delivered by Colt, or GI front sight as would probably have been required for the 1904-1909 National Matches (the record has them restricted to the .38’s that proved unable to stop charging Moros in the Philippines)? Do fill me in on a follow-up discussion, and thanks in advance for the findings.
This story makes me kinda sad, for a number of reasons. It’s a bad story because it gives both sides the ability to make completely unsupported arguments, because nobody but the people who were there know exactly what happened, and in what order.
The anti-gun gets to say, “See? Having a gun doesn’t protect you!” and they might be right in this case. If Dot Hendrix tried to draw against a drawn gun and got herself shot, then that wasn’t real smart. Maybe if she hadn’t done that, the goblins might have taken the money and left her unharmed.
On the other hand, our side gets to say, “Good for her! At least she tried to fight, instead of just giving up!” And those people are right, too. Because I think you should fight back. Because you don’t know if they’re going to take the money and leave in peace, or if they’re going to shoot you anyway, despite your cooperation.
The point being, this is no better an example for us than it is for them, because we don’t know the exact timeline of events, and she still ended up dead.
And sadly, she didn’t manage to take any of these assholes with her.
Obamacare for sheep!
The method employed here is a very Democratic (capital D) one. The nanny state to the rescue!
NB: this doesn’t mean I disagree with the strategy, such is necessary to establish a population of animals lower on the food chain. Just noting the similarities.
That is some nasty weather you Northeasterners and Nor/Midwesterners are having. The coldest temp I’ve personally been out in was a one mile walk at -12 (with a bitter wind), and that was more than enough for me.
The coldest I’ve ever been shooting was 8 degrees (again with the bitter wind) a couple years ago, and that also was more than cold enough for me. I did most of the actual firing with bare hands because my gloves were far too bulky to fit into the trigger guard of the .22 rifles. We weren’t shooting what you’d call high-end guns — just a Marlin model 60 and a bolt-action whose brand I can’t recall — but they performed flawlessly. Although we weren’t out for too terribly long; bare hands don’t last long in that kind of weather, especially holding those cold rifles.
On the other hand, there’s nothing more awesome than vaporizing 10 snowballs in a row with hollowpoints from a .22 rifle. Good, cold fun.
