Speaking before his boss, Vice President Joe Biden introduced his gun control plan by describing the Sandy Hook slaughter. “The world has changed and it’s demanding action,” Biden opined. Biden introduced the expected raft of proposals including Executive Actions. “Some [gun control measures] will happen immediately. Some will take time.” After citing the 900 people who’ve died “at the end of the gun” since Sandy Hook, the President lobbied for a Congressional ban on “military-style assault weapons” (“weapons for the theater of war don’t belong in a movie theater”), a ten-round limit on ammunition magazines and “universal background checks” for all firearms transactions. After appealing to gun owners—and making snarky remarks about the NRA, the firearms industry and pro-gun pundits—Obama concluded by signing 23 Executive Actions. Post on the Executive Orders to follow . . .

    • Isn’t Abraham Lincoln the worst president ever?

I guess we will have to wait and see if there is violence that will come from this disarmament or just talk.

      • I was worried he would actually EO on the ‘scary guns’ and the ‘over 10 round boxes with springs in them’.
His evil political savvy trumped his monumental arrogance.
        The lesser of two evils.

    • +1,000,000

But he couldn’t have won! Um yeah he would’ve if all the idiots voted for him instead of half of them voting for mitt because obama sucks and half of them voting for obama because mitt sucks. Why not freedom instead?

    • They didn’t nominate him because they despise everything he stands for. What part of that didn’t you get? All of it, it would seem.

      • RP lost in the nomination process. Many of his ideas are great, some are not so great. Then we had a general election where people make the best choice they can of the two nominees in our two party system. Sadly, many morons had a childish brainfart and wrote in Mickey Mouse or did not vote…….and you have what you got today.
There are many candidates I personally favor over Barry, Mitt, or RP (who looks like the bad guy revealed at the end of every Scooby Doo episode when they pull off the mask…..gasp….MR SMITHERS…”and I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasnt for you kids”), but they were not there at the end, regarding our two party system.

    • I did not vote for Obama…I put my vote to Libertarian Gary Johnson…at least he would let us own our firearms AND there would have been a proper budget plan the first day as President!

So, when will the impeachment begin? Perhaps when Obama starts picking apart our Bill of Rights and our Constitution!!! (My head is swimming…sorry)

    • You should be fine. Unless and until legislation passes both House and Senate affecting existing firearms, which seems unlikely.

    • One thing I got was “more kids on psychiatric drugs, declare gun owners crazy and take their guns.” If not immediately, it’s on the agenda.

    • Nick me too, as soon as the kids were show , I felt sick and just could not watch this twisted political bulls@&$. This is what liberal leftys do , conjure emotional feelings that blind people about the real facts. I will read the new proposals when published.

    • The NRA needs to have a press conference with people who used a firearm to defend themselves, people who are would otherwise be DEAD if they havent had a gun to protect themselves with. If the WH wants to parade these people around, its only fair that our side do it as well.

    • Love false dichotomies. “We can either pass laws banning guns right now, or all the cute kids sitting behind me will die.”

      • Yup. Bloody shirts….in the name of the children. You can make people strip in front of fake showers and sniff Zyklon-B…..”in the name of the children”.

  1. Can’t we just get to the part that he says ban all guns. I don’t want to listen to all this BS about “the kids”

    • You silly goose, playing on people’s emotions is exactly their plan. That’s how bad legislation is passed, be it regarding guns or something else. If they cited their own (FBI) stats regarding crime and the number of people killed each year with rifles, the public would laugh at them. More people are killed with hammers in this country than with rifles. I could go on and on, but it’s pointless, because logic and fact are their enemies.

  2. *sarcasm* But all the Democrats told me that Obama didn’t want an assault weapons ban and that he isn’t coming for our guns and that it’s all the Republicans fault….

  3. Looks like we need competency tests for a pres and v.p., not honest gunowners who are being denied their rights.

    • Does America even need a president?

Oh and that is the whole point. They don’t want good people with guns because they might stop the bad people.

  4. Okay, what’s effective and what’s just their dream list. When did what the rest of the world want factor into our laws? Sounds like this is what we want but can’t really do anything about. Pound sand.

  5. Alright if this Feinstein bill is an executive order or if it gets passed our country has now ceased to exist. I guess we are now living in the future that sci fi and other works of “fiction” has warned us. I guess we will fall like the Roman Empire.

    • That sort of thing can’t pass by EO–he’s not allowed. Anything hardware-related has to go through Congress, and even the Democrats are admitting it’ll be an uphill battle.

That won’t stop the demagoguery though.

  6. Obama is pushing Congress for:

Obama pushes for universal background checks if you want to sell a firearm.
Pushed a AWB and a 10 rd mag limit
    Tougher on straw puchasers
    Nominate an ATF director

    • Yeah they aren’t too worried because they will still have business, just mostly from the government, as you know your going to need guns to take guns.

      • Yeah, the dealers at SHOT are probably so very upset. Nothing is going to be banned, but it’ll be months (or years) before the legislation actually dies. So months and months of chicken little and absurd prices on everything.

Yay idiots who don’t understand (or care) how the government actually works.

  7. The only way we can change is if they [gun owners] say this must be different and we [gun owners] must change.

  8. “The only way we can change is if the American people insist on it.”

Conversely, the only way we can prevent change is if the American people demand it.

  9. “We should harshly punish those individuals that buy weapons for other people, who would not otherwise qualify.” Ehem – Fast & Furious

    • When I make a long comment, I drag across it and to a CTRL+C to put in in the clipboard. THEN I post it. It’s become a habit and has paid off too many times to change it.

  10. You first Barry. Tell ya what, why doesn’t congress not de-fund Secret Service protection for POTUS and his cohorts ? Let’s put it out there. You first and then we will follow. Show leadership

  11. It’s surreal watching this, it’s like watching a car wreck in slow mo. Nice touch with the kids. Makes me even angrier.

  12. i usually dont say this out of respect… but.. FBO… ban on assault weapons?? ban on high cap mags?? NO!!! YOURE WRONG!!! thats not gonna fix things idiot!!!!!!

  13. How many hundreds of Pakistani and Afghani kids has president Teleprompter killed with bombs?

Oh, they are not the kids of registered democrat voters.

    • exactly. this is what ive been saying since sandy hook.

apparently iraqis, afghanis, and pakistanis dont cry for their children killed in drone strikes…

bloody barack is a miserable creature deserving of any sensible human beings’ utter contempt.

  14. They are totally missing the point of the Constitution. It is amazing how they can act with such ease while infringing our rights.
    INFRINGE
    Verb
1.Actively break the terms of (a law, agreement, etc.): “infringe a copyright”.
2.Act so as to limit or undermine (something); encroach on: “infringe on his privacy”.
    Synonyms
    violate – transgress – break – contravene – trespass

What part of that do they not understand….oh wait, all of it.

All I can say is DOH.

How long until they deny us the right to post on this evil blog? To assemble peacefully with our scary black rifles, and to demand redress for this grievous act? I wonder what is next to go?

    • I believe after he sign any executive order violation are 2nd amendment , we all should switch are energy from fighting the executive order to calls for impeachment.

    • “This protesting stuff is dangerous and someone may get trampled. So, while treasuring the right to peaceably assemble, we realize that common sense legislation is needed to keep the number in the crowd to under 10.”

      • LOL, good point. A high capacity assembly ban!

At least there is no such thing as an automatic assembly. It would already be banned.

        Incremental approach, you are right.

They could ban them by calling them assult weapon assemblies. And I guess they would scare the kids.

Another good idea gone. The right to free speech.

    • Yep. Nothing seriously objectionable there. Didn’t even try to cut off imports… maybe I’ll buy a VEPR 7.62x54r next month to celebrate.

      • No a universal background check is as sure a nat’l registry as it comes.
FOPA prohibits this, as well as your and my tax dollars being used to “study” gun crime i.e. make false/slanted reports to push bs legislation

    • Yep – there’s hardly anything in the EO’s that can even be called “gun control”, and no less than Harry Reid has basically said that none of the other stuff has a snowball’s chance of getting through congress. Doesn’t mean we don’t have to stay vigilant, of course.

      • The underlying agenda of gun control includes many small steps towards the long term goal of disarming the people.

A nationwide registry (aka universal background checks) is one step. Another step is to divide the 2A supporters by demonizing certain types of firearms.

Starting with a registry is right out of Hitler’s playbook…isn’t that significant?

    • That’s the brilliance of this thing- it looks innocuous.

Do the math on the following – eliminating pesky HIPAA provisions on privacy, reminding doctors it’s “ok” to ask about firearms ownership, healthcare data bases and data sharing.

      Instant registry. Just for starters.

  15. I hope that the staff of TTAG- as well as every single attendee- realizes that this gathering in Las Vegas can be, should be, must be far more than a simple industry trade show.

“Shot Show 2013: Historical Site of the Third Continental Congress”

Has a nice ring to it. Maybe my kids will be reading that line to my grand kids from the history books someday.

    • The good thing is that with all the monuments recreated by the resorts there we can just rename them instead of building new ones for the new national capital. Want to stay at the White House? Well, the Bellagio is the new White House and rooms there are $X a night. Pay like everybody else.

  16. Congress is now the front line of this battle. Time to get to work, folks. Let your elected officials know how you feel.

  17. I wonder how many of “the 900 people who’ve died ‘at the end of the gun’ since Sandy Hook” are gang bangers, drug user, etc. 80%? 90%?

  18. Nothing less than impeachment and treason trials for Obama and all involved would equal justice.

And since this is modern America, there’s no such thing as justice, so it won’t happen.

I wish nothing but misery, suffering, and torment for all American subjects that sat complacent while this happened, helped this traitor get into office, and continues to support oppression. They got the government they deserve and I hope they and their families suffer horribly for it. Go get ’em, newly-emboldened criminals…this gun owner won’t stop you.

This nation is dead. It is no longer a country worth living in. Fvck America, fvck Americans. May this country crumble to ashes soon.

As for myself, I have four simple words: I will not comply.

    • be careful what you wish for.

in our lifetimes, america will resemble nothing like we knew it when we were younger.

  19. Just called my congressman’s office. I will not comply with any further restrictions. I can’t believe we put up with what we do now. ENOUGH.

    • I believe you are correct in your wording.

We have to change our communication with our officials from “I don’t believe this is correct because of x, x and x reason” to “I will not comply and I will hold you PERSONALLY responsible.”

  20. So universal background checks – AKA national database
Even though 1.5mil guns have been kept from criminals hands through the existing system.
Yeah and renew an AWB, cause they are used to kill so many people a year.

Don’t fall for any “tax stamp” to keep existing semi-autos, its nothing more than a roundabout way of creating a na’t registry.

    • LMAO

He uses children as political props then gets mad when the NRA points out he sends his kids to a private school with armed guards, something the proles cannot have?

      **** this naked tyrant.

    • Yet they use the victims (most recently children) to push their agenda. Makes sense. Liberal hypocrisy and all.

      • Those kids didn’t get to DC for free. Your tax dollars paid for it. Thank goodness we don’t have any debt or deficits so we can easily afford those kinds of things.

  21. And the liberals sign away their jobs for the next 12 years. That’s what I hope.

However I believe that the majority of the adult-children, addicted to facebook and apple ads, won’t give a damn until it’s too late.

The screw has been turned. The line is drawn. Molon Labe.

  22. That just made me sick to my stomach. Or maybe it’s because I haven’t eaten yet. Anyway, I believe I’ll take my glock and go out amongst the masses. I want a Whopper. Nothing like an assault soda and high capacity calorie patties to take your mind off everything else.

  23. What i want TTAG to do is list is all the different firearms and 2A groups need names, address web etc… NEXT support the NRA and all others ……… Do it now ! As they say this is our time in the Sun (history) … Will history hate or bless us ? and God keep us !

    • Yes! Join up — NRA membership is $35. Join GOAL (Gun Owners Action League). Call your representatives. Talk to (yuk) liberals, if you can find one with a brain. Insist on your rights — once taken, they can only be won again by bloodshed.

      • If you call to join the NRA there are even discounted rates if you ask….for us cheap bastiches.

I heard on huffpost you can become a lifer for $300. Not confirmed by me as of yet…

        • The $300 for Life program is when you are sponsored by an existing Life Member. Several forums, including ar15.com, have running threads on the subject. Go to the last page and ask. Someone will send you their info shortly.

Caveat: Do some reading in that thread. Not everyone who answers the phones at NRA is on board with how this works. Some of them (one girl in particular) will tell you no. Try again until you get someone compliant.

  24. Anyone else notice how it’s now “gun violence” vs “gun control”? How could you possibly be for violence (unless your Hollywood or the MSM)? This is the same switch in nomenclature that they did with global warming, now better know as “climate change”.

      • This. One of the liberals I like to own regularly with facts freely admits this. They don’t care about facts. They care about touchy feely- what plays with people’s emotions AND fits their agenda. Again, they don’t care about the facts. They don’t care about lying and distorting facts either. It’s blatantly obvious in everything the democrat machine does.

    • In the 70’s it was the next ice age and overpopulation. Love what John Lennon had to say about that one, surprisingly. Now it’s too much violence (the stated solution from the eugenicists left or right for overpop back in the day, and still today) and the planet’s too hot because of what we’ve done in the last century of this planet’s ridiculously long life cycle. Whatever will get them elected through mass fear will do.

    • It is called Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). A method of convincing others by using imagery rather than plain words.

  25. None of the 23 EO’s appear unconstitutional by any stretch. I still expect anything else that needs congressional approval to die in committee.

    • Yes, but he made headlines and many in this world now believe “something” was done because few will bother to either read and/or understand what was done. The same bunch of idiots who did not understand why their payroll taxes went up the first of the year will believe that guns are now under control.

He is leaving the fight to Fienstein and to individual states. It was a moral victory for the anti-gun crowd and that is what they crave most because they will use this as motivation for individual state attacks.

  26. A young man known to be mentally unstable is introduced to firearms by a parent, then shoots his way into a school and tragically kills 26 people. President Obama misses the mark, using this for a catalyst for legislative and executive action in an attempt to turn law-abiding firearms owners into criminals. He simply fails to acknowledge that this terrible event was neither a result of the size of any firearms’ magazine capacity nor a violent video game or movie, but, most importantly, poor parenting decisions.

    • Worse, he will be doing nothing about mental health. Here are his ED

      21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

      22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

      23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

This tells me, nothing will be done about mental health. There will be a lot of talk. Money will be spent to generate a report and then…then nothing because the ACLU will fight any legislation restricting or forcing violently ill people from getting help.

  27. Am I just missing the one about the weapons ban and high cap limit? Included under #13…or did he realize it was unconstitutional and is going to try pushing it through Congress instead of issuing an EO?

  28. Until Robert et al get a list up, here is a list from Slate:

    http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2013/01/16/read_president_obama_s_new_proposed_executive_orders_and_legislation_on.html

It’s pretty much what you expected, except for this bit under the legislative goals:

“Protect police by finishing the job of getting rid of armor-piercing bullets”

In practice, this is getting rid of rifles. I would expect the ATF to find that Barnes’ all-copper rifle bullets and other non-lead projectiles are “armor piercing” based on this being a legislative goal. I don’t know of a pistol bullet that is capable of shooting through duty armor (e.g, Level II and up) and isn’t something like the S&W .500 Magnum or similar hand-cannon that will essentially never be used in a crime, but any nibble at the 2A is a victory for these morons.

      • I seriously doubt level 3, 2A sure but not 3. Also 44 mag, 40 Super and other rounds will do the same. Also they’re talking about bullets, not cartridges.

  29. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

Ooh, a letter… sarc aside, I can see some huge lawsuits coming from those completely innocent who their doc thought was a threat for whatever reason. My guess is many docs won’t go there if their practices and livelihood is on the line.

  30. He dumped the really onerous stuff onto Congress, so when it doesn’t pass he can blame the Republicans and the NRA. Then, he expects to win the House of Reps in the 2014 elections on a backlash as other mass shootings occur. He planted the seed for that backlash via the remarks about asking your Congressman why he/she wouldn’t vote for the AWB/10 Round Mag limit and universal background checks for all sales or transfers of guns when it makes so much “common sense”…and suggested most Americans, including NRA Members, support these measures.

So, basically, he set himself up to be able to say “I told you what I recommended, but the Republicans and their NRA cronies wouldn’t pass it….It’s not MY fault (again).”

  31. Out of the 23, 8 deal with mental health and ACA changes, 7 are saftey related and doing what the NRA said to do a month a go, 7 have to do with strengthening background checks before purchase and after crimes take place including traceability and then nominated an ATF director which should be stricken because it adds to his incomopetence of not doing it at any time before today.

I’m failing to see though how any of these prevents a 20 year old from murdring his mother to steal her guns to shoot up a shcool. What am I missing here?

    • What am I missing here?

Only that gun control has nothing to do with crime or guns, only with control.

  32. OK, I don’t see anything immediately alarming in the list of EOs, but remember the devil is in the details. We’ll have to wait and see. A couple that worry me in particular:

    4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

Doesn’t say they will do anything about it at this stage, but expect them to suggest again that people on the terror watch list and no-fly lists be denied. Or something to that effect. Have to be vigilant against some form of that creeping up again. Can’t have secret panels stripping people of civil liberties w/0 due process, but they will keep trying. Earliest I heard this was from Rham Emmanuel in 2009 or so.

    5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

What is a “seized gun?” Does that include a cop holding a legal CC gun while talking to the permit holder? What if the system is having trouble at the time?

    14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

The more they can frame this as a public health issue rather than a civil rights issue, the better for them. No teeth in this for the short term, more for the long term

    16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
Kinda depends on how doctors word this. It doesn’t confer any abilities that don’t exist now, but we (the community of firearms owners) need to be careful here. Tell your doc that you feel a bit depressed, and the cops might be at your door the next day to pick up your guns.

    21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
This I flat don’t understand. “Parity” is usually a code word for taking something from the person who earned it and giving it to someone else, but I really don’t see what this has to do with guns at all. Make sure everyone has an equal chance to be declared unfit to own weapons?

  33. Now when I go to the doctor’s office I will get a Miranda warning, anything I say will be used against me and reported to the authorities. Secound I’m not going to pay 150.00 dollars a visit to see my doctor for 5 minutes so the doctor can discuss my firearms ownership.

  34. Legislation

    1) Require criminal background checks for all gun sales. (a.k.a. closing the “gun show loophole.”)

They can probably get some form of this, trick being to stop them from making it de facto registration.

    2) Reinstate and strengthen the assault weapons ban.

    Doubt it.

    3) Restore the 10-round limit on ammunition magazines.

    Maybe. Worries me a bit.

    4) Protect police by finishing the job of getting rid of armor-piercing bullets.

WTF? This again? Going for grandpa’s .30-06 again? Either way, this needs to be crushed.

    5) Give law enforcement additional tools to prevent and prosecute gun crime.

So vague as to be meaningless. But they mean registration.

    6) End the freeze on gun violence research.

Would be fine, as long as it was unbiased research. I can see the NIH program announcement now: Call for proposals on understanding how evil assault rifles are destroying our nation.

    7) Make our schools safer with more school resource officers and school counselors, safer climates, and better emergency response plans.

Spend more money on better versions of what isn’t working! OK, a bit cynical (but only a bit). As opposed to the cost of allowing lawful CC in schools, though? Not the job of the Federal government at any rate.

    8) Help ensure that young people get the mental health treatment they need.

Can’t argue that it would be a good thing, but not the job of the federal government.

So, even if we can keep the more obnoxious stuff off our backs, there will still probably be some expansion of central government here with more spending. We will lose, question of how much.

  35. “5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.”

Have you ever been arrested? It took them 10 hours last time I was to run my prints thru whatever national database they do. Guess whats going to happen the next time youre pulled over and they seize your gun in the interest of officer safety.

“6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.”

Is this madatory, so I have to pay a $50 FFL fee if I engage in a private sale?

“13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.”

    More Ruby Ridges.

“15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.”

12lb triggers and manual safeties for all!

    • “Provisions regarding HIPAA and patient confidentiality which triggers the spam filter”

One more reason to never see a shrink

  36. Time to unit the cat is out of the bag. Call your reps and congressmen and say NO to the ban!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. Obama and Biden are EXACTLY why the 2nd amendment was written! They understand it too. Hopefully it will protect us the way it was meant to.

  38. I live in South Texas where the violence has spilled over and there has been lot of house break ins and like hell i will turn my guns! What this i hear of the Prisdent and one of his aids selling guns to the cartels in Mexico. If the goverment want do disarm uu there going to have to pull them off my cold dead hands!

  39. Should Obama be foolish enough to ban assault-style weapons by executive order, he will create millions of instant criminals because we will not comply. HOPEFULLY, Congress will show some initiative and override any such nonsense. AR15 style semi automatic rifles have been in the civilian marketplace since the early 1960’s and are not widely used to commit crimes. This is an emotional knee-jerk reaction in a situation that requires COLD RATIONAL THOUGHT and LEADERSHIP from from the president – who has proven time and time again that he is NOT a leader. Maybe there are a few leaders in Congress who can come up with some sort of law that minimizes guns getting into the hands of criminals and psychotics, while leaving honest law abiding gun owners to exercise their 2nd amendment rights without interference from overzealous ideologues.
