Anti-gun Pennsylvania lawmakers last week approved five restrictive gun control measures in the House Judiciary Committee, setting the stage for all five to be considered by the full House of Representatives.

On Jan. 17, the committee approved House Bill 335, HB 336, HB 777, HB 1157 and HB 1190, all of which would trample on Pennsylvanians’ Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

HB 335 would ban so-called “accelerated trigger activators.” While the measure likely targets bump stocks, the language does not specify that. Instead, the legislation bans any “part or combination of parts designed and intended to accelerate the rate of fire of a semi-automatic firearm to simulate the rate of fire of a machine gun.”

HB 336 is the so-called “assault weapon” ban, and it takes in a lot of territory. According to the bill’s language, it bans ownership or transfer of a gun if “the firearm is a semiautomatic rifle that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following: (A) A folding or telescoping stock. (B) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon. (C) A bayonet mount. (D) A flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor. (E) A grenade launcher.”

HB 777 unjustly punishes hobbyists by restricting privately made firearms, a time-honored tradition practiced even before the founding of our nation. The measure defines a privately made firearm as: “A firearm or firearm frame or receiver, assembled or otherwise produced by a person other than a Federal firearms licensee that does not contain a serial number or other identifying markings placed by a Federal firearms licensee at the time the firearm was produced.”

HB 1157 further complicates the topic of mental health by attempting to speed up reporting of mental health adjudications, commitments and treatment. However, according to an analysis by NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA): “This bill is so poorly drafted it actually makes it unlawful to report mental health adjudications until 72 hours have passed. It would presumably also block reporting during ongoing treatment (until the treatment is “complete”).”

Finally, HB 1190 bans 3D printed firearms. Ironically, the measure’s definition of a 3D-printed firearm actually addresses computer programs and files, not guns. The bill’s definition is specified as, “Any computer or other electronic file distributed for any firearm or part of a firearm that is intended or capable of being manufactured or printed by a 3-D printer.”

Not so ironically, all five of the measures were approved in committee by a 14-to-11 vote—straight party voting with all Democrats on the committee voting yes and all Republicans voting no.

    • Dumba$$ gun owners and NRA WLP suckers. I spent a considerable amount of time back in the heady days of ’17 at, and outside of, gun shows, in the cold, handing out voters guides to the 2017 election…you know, the one no one cared about. The big deal here in PA for that election was several PA Supreme Court slots.

We could have maintained balance on the PASC or maybe even set up to secure a majority. What I got from people going to the gun shows was a lot of “I voted for Trump, he’ll take of it!” and “The NRA hasn’t sent me anything about it so it must not be important.”

Spoiler alert, we lost the PASC decidedly. That set up the democrap gerrymandering of districts over the succeeding years that, combined with other election shenanigans (more votes in a district thans registered voters, more votes in counties than the population of the county) allowed the D’s to gain control of the PA house of reps for the first time in living memory. And now we have this.

If I lived in another state I would say PA voters are getting what they deserve good and hard. But I am in PA and I did everything I could to try and avoid this. So did others. I was not out there alone. So we are getting what the dumba$$es deserve.

it also set up some other bad state actions because D’s felt like they had cover..

      /Rant

  1. HB 1190 would appear to include printing new grips for your grandad’s old 1911. I wonder if they would object to carving walnut grips with a cnc router? Probably.

There’s something seriously wrong with these people.

    • “HB 1190 would appear to include printing new grips for your grandad’s old 1911.”

It’s a pretty good bet every school has a 3-D printer, and numerous ones in the neighborhoods surrounding those schools.

Has anyone explained the reality to those fuckwits?

    • The Supreme Court already ruled that source code is free speech back in the DVD-CSS days, so this bill would be unconstitutional from day one.

      • Unconstitutional?
The “System ” doesn’t believe in a Constitution. That’s why they can take an oath to protect it and not get fired.

  2. Demorats have a 1 seat majority in the Penn State house. Senate Republicans have a 6 seat majority. Governor is a demorat. Passage of these is going to be close. I hope you guys in PA are calling your reps.

  3. PA just had the stupid young adult emergency carry ban struck down by a federal court. And if they try and pass these, which the governor won’t sign, then they’d get beaten again in federal court. Liberals seem to have this mentality that they can sue their way into getting what they want. And they get uber triggered when you use the same method against them. So let’s trigger all of them with a tsunami of lawsuits against stupid gun laws.

  4. A pistol grip that protrudes “”conspicuously”” beneath the action of the weapon. WTF!! What is wrong with this people?

    • When you become completely “Open Minded”, the wind can blow in one ear and out the other and carry your brain with it.
Open Minded is what you call yourself when common sense no longer registers.

    • I still find the scary bayonet lug amusing.

Are they frightened of a mass bayoneting happening at some point? The last Army to really focus on bayonets for close quarter fighting was the WW2 Imperial Japanese Army. But the British did a bayonet attack at Mount Tumbledown in the Falklands.

I can imagine dacian’s Caravan of Death resorting to using bayonets for their mass “liquidations” when ammunition is scarce.

        • Gorilla tape and zip ties worked for me… A touch of crazy glue on the zip ties adds to the strength of the ratchet grip…

      • When the Khmer Rouge was working the killing fields, small children and infants were grabbed by the ankles and swung so their skulls were smashed on trees. This saved ammo.
Was a little over 4 decades ago.
Leftards need to ban all trees. 🤪

        • Or the Khmer Rouge used the razor sharp edge of palm fronds to cut people’s throats.

Returning to Year Zero was almost about Population Zero.

      • Brian bayonet’ed a Racoon during the Coons of Doom rebellion and per my instruction pulled the trigger when it was stuck to the bayonet.
Brian learned about Left Shoulder arms, and guts that night.

  5. “Instead, the legislation bans any ‘part or combination of parts designed and intended to accelerate the rate of fire of a semi-automatic firearm to simulate the rate of fire of a machine gun.’ ”

Another attempt by idiots who do not understand how a semi-auto firearm works.

    • What is the rate-of-fire limit?

300 rpm (reportedly that of a bumpstock)

450 rpm (M3/M3A1 SMG. Jerry Mikulak can exceed that with a stock handgun)

600 rpm (fairly common auto rate among many MGs and SMGs) ?

      • “What is the rate-of-fire limit?”

“Paging Jerry Miculek. Jerry Miculek to the white courtesy phone, please…”

Jerry would have to have his trigger finger “Registered by the FBI”…

      • Southern, you forgot the ROF for a belt loop. If we’re going to be talking about “dumb things Democrats want to ban for $500, Alex”, we may as well add things that are *actually* used out there.

      • Using the correct rubber bands will turn an AR15 into a rapid fire long gun.
The bumpstock or the franklin armory trigger. These mechanical accessories simply make it easier.

But rubber bands cost only about 2 dollars.

      • “Does that mean no finger strengthening exercises?”

They would have to ban the oldest finger-grip exercise of all time, practiced by nearly all young guys…”

        *snicker* 😉

  6. I live 400 yards from Maryland and three or four miles from Pennsylvania in the free state of West Virginia, but keep track of their stupid laws for fear I accidentally take a gun into either state. Vote for Marxist Democrats and get stupid laws and pay WAY too much in taxes! Note Pennsylvania already has a full handgun registration system and force you to pay for WAY too much local government. West Virginia on the other hand as I recall has repealed gun laws to the point that we pass the Bruin 1791 test. Three guesses which of these three states has the lowest crime rates and the first two don’t count!

    • even have to register a shockwave in PA….and Maryland is best avoided…even if you have to detour around it….

  7. Not suprised since PA is surrounded by NY, MD and NJ. The cesspools of Philly, Harrisburg and Pittsburgh rule the land. So sad as my direct ancestors were Mennonites from Switzerland and Germany who came to “Penn’s Woods” in 1710 seeking religous freedom. My grandparents were the last of my family to speak Pennsylvania Dutch.

  8. Grenade launcher! Interestly you can’t attach it to a rifle under this bill, but you can mount a 37mm “flare” launcher to a stock, and be completely legal to own in Pennsylvania. Obviously the black rife enhances it lethality.

  9. The Pennsylvania Senate is controlled by 28 Republicans to 22 Democrats. The bills will be dead on arrival in the PA Senate.

  10. I’m at the point where Do Not Comply is the rule of law. The police seem to have zero interest in enforcing these new unconstitutional laws, what with their limited budgets and personnel. Governors can hold their breath till they pass out but the truth is a law is only as effective as it’s enforcement.

      • That is true. Still, it doesn’t appear as if these lawmakers have any reservations about passing the blatantly unconstitutional. Then telling the commoners they can fund raise and contest the law in court on their own dime.

  11. “One of the notable aspects of the democratic process is that one need not know anything about a subject in order to pass laws about it.” – the late Marine Col Jeff Cooper

Obviously merely copied/pasted from previous anti-gun legislation attempts. Certainly glad the massive instances of grenade attacks are going to be stopped by these brain trust politicians.

Grenade launchers…40mm…are already federally regulated by NFA. Flare launchers…37mm…are not grenade launchers, not regulated.

  12. Congratulations, Pennsylvania Democrats, you’ve just succeeded in banning computers!
The language of the bill defines 3D-printed guns as, “Any computer or other electronic file…” Notice it doesn’t say “Any computer file,” it says “Any computer,” which means it bans computers. I guess Pennsylvania will have to go back to using the abacus, pen, paper, and counting on their fingers! When writing laws, you have to use correct grammar, or you end up banning computers themselves by accident.
And that’s without even getting started on the 1st Amendment violation of banning “electronic files” or computer files, which is a clear violation of the 1st Amendment right to free speech.

And what is “a part of a firearm”? Isn’t a buttstock, rear sight, or front sight “a part of a firearm”? Is it now a crime to have a computer file that enables creating a buttstock, sights, or even a front sight bead (like a BB) for a shotgun? Why is it a crime — is it a “thought crime” if the bead you design is made for a shotgun front bead sight, rather than a bead used for any other purpose? And why is this obvious violation of the 1st Amendment (as well as the right to manufacture harmless legal products such as beads) allowed to pass? Dem politicians, I know, Dem politicians.

  13. Most of what is proposed should have been passed at the Federal Level decades ago.

No one should be permitted to own parts that convert semi-auto’s into machine guns including the ban on all bump stocks.

No one should be permitted to manufacture guns without a Federal Manufacturing License which should ban all 3D guns as well as contructioning homemade guns from homemade or store bought receivers that have not been vetted with a serial number registered with the Federal Government.

Making it easy for criminals and Far Right Trumpite insurrectionists to get unregistered guns is pure insanity and a threat to Democracy in the U.S. We cannot let the Trumpite Jackboot Stormtroopers establish a one party state and a Trumpite dictatorship for life.

Private militias should be banned because we do not want a new fiefdoms of Far Right Warlords being resurrected from the trash bin of history. Warlords did enough damage in China and we do not want an American Far Right version of Chinese Warlords here.

    • Laws made in haste and ignorance. Pretty much sums up the post Port Arthur gun laws which left lots of loopholes.

  14. One must truly wonder: what in tarnation do these numbskulls believe these laws will prevent? And why do think that those with criminal intentions, are going to pay any attention to these pointless regulations?

    • “One must truly wonder: what in tarnation do these numbskulls believe these laws will prevent? ”

Prevention is not the goal; retribution against legal gun owners is the intention. Punishment, not prevention.

    • Didja ever hear that Pennsylvania crude oils are high in paraffin content and will sludge up your engine? I heard that some 50 years ago and stopped using Quaker State in my car. The technology may have changed just a bit since then, though. (I use synthetics in my cars.)

Pennzoil bought Quaker State, and Shell bought Pennzoil-Quaker State Co.

  15. Best course of action is to ignore the rules which are unconstitutional and defend yourself against anyone trying to enforce them. When there is enough chaos the rules will change.
Don’t give in to the lawlessness being promoted by Democrats and certainly don’t vote for these idiots.

  16. these are the similar “assault weapons” laws in California. Yet, those laws are currently falling apart, voted down, and determined unconstitutional by judges. The appeals are underway but if commiefornia can beat these insane laws it will give grounds to be dropped in PA fast.

Sounds like the “accelerated trigger activators” is the boys response to the innovative designs of forced reset triggers and the ‘Rare Breed Trigger’ legal dispute.

  18. The way to stop these gun grabbing (state legislators) hoplophobes is to sue each and every one of them for CONTEMPT of the BRUEN DECISION and have them fined heavily for infringing on out Constitutional rights.
