[Mildly] Incendiary Image of the Day: Yukon Cornelius Has a Gun! Edition

Yukon Cornelius

A TTAG reader writes:

I’m sitting here watching the 1964 Rudolf the red nosed reindeer and noticed Yukon Cornelius has a revolver in his belt. How we’ve slipped as a society since then. You wouldn’t even see a toy gun in a Christmas special nowadays.

Happy Holidays,

  1. avatar Allen says:

Appendix carry! He was ahead of his time.

    1. I call appendix carry without a holster “felony carry”!

  2. avatar JoeVK says:

Didn’t he shoot it too? Been a looooong time since I’ve seen it, but I could have sworn he fired it into the air at one point.

    1. avatar Tomyironmane says:

I think he actually shot a shovel or something that someone was swinging at another character… but it HAS been forever.

  3. avatar Don says:

    Loved Yukon and the Bumble!

  4. avatar Drew says:

Don’t tell Spielberg, he will special edition it and change it to a walky talky.

    1. avatar mountocean says:

      Yukon carried first!

12 Reasons Yukon Cornelius Is The Most Badass Christmas Character Of All Time

    1. avatar Gene says:

Found on the right hand size of the article just under “14 reasons why you should color your grey” and “learn this shocking secret to keeping ginger fresh”. Gotta love that Taboola.

  6. avatar davidx says:

I had a little Yosemite Sam Xmas decoration for the tree for many years but have since lost it; he was packing two revolvers, pointing into the air on either side. “Back off, ya varmints!”

  7. avatar the ruester says:

True story; the most popular holiday film of all time centers entirely on a toy gun. Also true; the most popular gift for boys this year (and many years past) is a video game that puts you behind firearms of all different types.

  8. avatar brentondadams says:

I don’t know about that. Ive got a shitload of guns in my Christmas special.

  9. avatar JasonM says:

Yukon Corneleone shot his gun, as did everybody else in the video:

    1. avatar Rimfire says:

That never gets old, such funny sh1T

  10. avatar Daily Beatings says:

    I like this version better:

  11. avatar Pieslapper says:

OMG Gun!!! We must ban puppets!

  12. avatar Chadwick P. says:

Open carry for the vintage win!

    1. avatar SD3 says:

Back in the day, that was just called ‘Tuesday’.

  13. avatar Hannibal says:

He’s getting a holster for Xmas

  14. avatar Tim in WA says:

Heck gunpowder is one of his”life sustaining supplies”

  15. avatar Alan W. Rose says:

Just don’t saunter down to ToysRUs expecting to find him still armed. They have craftily dropped that particular piece of kit from his repertoire.

  16. avatar PeterK says:

There’s a squirt gun in the movie, too. Ban toy guns!

  17. avatar StevieP says:

By comparison, in all the Toy Story movies and shorts, Sheriff Woody has always had an empty holster.

  18. avatar SD3 says:

Awesome. Ever notice in ‘The Wizard of Oz’, the scarecrow carries a six-shooter to fight off the flying monkeys? And he’s ‘the brains’ of the group.

  19. avatar jwm says:

    He was an OC advocate.

  20. avatar mirgc says:

Speaking of Christmas and 12 days and all. What happened to the Moms Demand “12 days of gun-control activism”? It seems to have disappeared at day 6. Might be a great article backing up the PEW research poll. Combine it with articles like the previous one below, and can we change the conversation nationally?

  21. avatar yeah... that guy says:

Don’t forget the song “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”!

“a pair of hop along boots and a pistol that shoots is the wish of Barney and Ben. ”

Good luck not getting a song like that banned nowadays. Gangster holiday music!

  22. avatar Pikes Pete says:

The last forty or so years have been a continuous slide down the societal sewer pipe. We are at the edge of this nation, and most of the Western world, falling right into a roiling collective madness

  23. avatar tmm says:

You wouldn’t even see a toy gun in a Christmas special nowadays.

Not even on the island of misfit toys?

  24. avatar Bobby C. King says:

Yea, back in the days when an Oath to protect the Constitution and traditional American values was kept. We were still free. Police Officers were public servants, not the worst thugs on the streets with immunity from prosecution when they committed crimes.

Probably the last time we will ever see this program again!

Today, Liberty and Justice for all is only a dream!

  25. avatar Phil COV says:

I was thinking the same thing!

  26. avatar Leadslinger says:

From the book “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Making Of The Rankin/Bass Holiday Classic”

“On the following pages, you’ll find Romeo’s original October 28th, 1963 draft of his Rudolph
screenplay. It’s the most interesting draft of the script and really gives an insight to what Romeo (and
for that matter, Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass) were thinking. You can see the many song ideas that
were nixed for time, and some of the revisions hand-written right on the page. One scene in particular
to note is on page 4-3, in which Yukon Cornelius pulls his guns, firing a cork from one and a blast
from another. This action was altered by the producers and perhaps was a “no no” even in 1964. It
certainly would have been trimmed by the networks today.”

  27. avatar mirgc says:

What happened to the moms 12 days of “gun-control Christmas activism”. It seems to have lost its steam at day 6. Maybe this, combined with the PEW poll, is a good talking point to take the offensive on.

  28. avatar Baron Korf says:

For the record, his essential supplies are “cornmeal, gun powder, ham hocks and guitar strings”.
