Mark Kelly Is Still A Liar, A Hypocrite and A Gun Lover

In our last post on former astronaut, professional husband (of a spree killer’s survivor) and gun control advocate Mark Kelly, we repeated an assertion that Mr. Kelly didn’t take immediate possession of an AR-15 purchase because he’d asked for gun mods (trigger job, flash suppressor). Since then, the store in question, Diamondback Police Supply Co. of Tucson, Arizona released a statement about the reason for the “delay” . . .

On March 5, 2013 Mr. Mark Kelly purchased a Sig Sauer 45 caliber pistol and a Sig Sauer M400 5.56 AR style rifle from my company, Diamondback Police Supply Co. in Tucson, AZ. The rifle, having been purchased in trade from another customer, cannot be released to Mr. Kelly or any other customer for a minimum of 20 days in accordance with local ordinances. Mr. Kelly did not ask for any modifications to the rifle, nor are we making any. Once the hold period is up, Mr. Kelly must then show proper identification, complete the Federal Firearms Transfer Record (Form 4473) and successfully complete the NICS background check prior to his taking physical possession of the firearm.

So, if Mr. Kelly bought the gun simply to show how easy it is to buy a gun, as claimed, why did he buy a gun that isn’t easy to buy? He could have purchased a brand new AR-15, filled out form 4473, passed the NICS background check and walked out of the store with an AR-15.

Clearly, Kelly bought an AR-15 because he wanted an AR-15. Presumably he bought a pre-owned gun because . . . wait for it . . . he liked it. Or wanted to save money. Or protect his family. Whatever. But it doesn’t change the fact that his purchase was not intended to make a point. He got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Period.

And I repeat my challenge to the media to ask Mr. Kelly a simple question: have you purchased an AR-15 before? ‘Cause if he did there can be no doubt of what we already know to be true.

  1. Can’t the NRA just release a blanket statement saying, “if schumer, Feinstein, or any of their ilk propose any firearm related laws, we oppose it.”

  2. We need to change that language:

It’s not “Universal Background Checks”, it is “Banning Private Sales”

They have tweaked their message, spin it back and refocus to gain control.

  3. Wouldn’t it have to be a functioning firearm for any of Kali’s laws to apply….or am I missing a joke here?

  4. Why’s everybody so upset? The court just saved the entire state of New York from dangerous guns, RIGHT?

I’m going straight to NYC and celebrate. They’re dancing in the streets, like when the Yankees used to win. RIGHT?

  5. That nerf gun has a pistol grip and a front handle. Obviously a weapon of war, designed only for killing people. 🙂

  6. He was a Naval Officer. He either has forgotten or has ignored his oath because of his personal experiences. Therefore, his lying about why he bought an AR-15 is not surprising.

  7. Sure, there are some areas where civilian disarmament advocates have momentum. Of course there are other areas where they have zero traction.

Just a few short years ago, I acquired a concealed handgun carry license mostly on a whim. As I started carrying, I began to notice and think about various scenarios, restrictions, and politics. About a year ago, I contacted my state representatives to share my desires about firearms legislation. Last summer, I attended my first ever political rally. Early this year, I contacted every elected person — state governor, representatives, and senators as well as our president, federal representatives, and federal senators. And for the last year I have posted simple, clear, verifiable, compelling gun rights posts on various blogs and even newspapers.

The game changer in all of this is the Internet. I am able to learn, verify or invalidate arguments, and see what is happening thanks to all of the information that is readily available via the Internet. This would have been almost impossible just 10 years ago.

People advocating for gun rights have logic, data, reason, truth, and even emotion on our side. It is spreading. If it were not, there would not be record numbers of people carrying concealed in our nation. And people like my mild mannered neighbor would not have stated just a week after the Sandy Hook school massacre that we need armed parents and teachers in our children’s schools.

Keep reaching out. Keep presenting clear, compelling, simple truths AND emotions. And most importantly, keep trying to bring new people to a gun range to shoot — especially your children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews!!!

  8. Ted,
It’s not the gun; It’s the user who determines when and how it is used.

One’s hope is that one’s gun never has to be used to kill (other than hunting game). But if the worst happens to you and you are faced with no alternative, you’ll be glad you have one on hand.

  9. Once upon a time(not so long ago) I WAS a camo wearing, heavy drinking, uber-weird type of guy….. Then I grew up and joined the real world, the business world. Even then I still kept a few signs of rebellion visible to the public to “express myself” but as time went on and especially after I started to CC I’ve purposely toned things down and “normalized” my appearance. My hair got shorter, my clothes got blander and my temper got tamped down and better controlled. The one thing that made all those things happen was RESPONSIBILITY in one form or another. I see CC as a serious responsibility just like any other and have seen others go through the same changes I did when they decided to CC….. I believe it does make SOME of us better people if not just more “normal”. It adds another perspective to the daily grind that I don’t think most anti-gun people could ever understand, a perspective that MAKES US THINK and PAY ATTENTION more than the average person floating around oblivious to their surroundings.

There are exceptions to every rule(other than death and taxes) but the overwhelming majority of gun owners and CC holders I’ve met over the years seem to back up my theory.

  10. How does one “embed” a culture in “inequality, violence, and fear”?
I don’t understand. I assume there is an actual meaning behind this that can be explained through clearer word choice.

  11. It’s HIPAA, and this part of the NY “SAFE Act” is a serious violation of doctor-patient confidentiality (not to mention constitutionally-protected rights).

  12. This is great news. Now the government can get all those illegal guns off the street because of the paper trail the MS13 gang will leave when doing a transfer. /sarc

  15. I’m a resident and have been emailing him as well as snail-mailing him at least weekly for the last month. I was able to get through this time, so they must have resolved the server problem. I’m not optimistic, but I don’t see any reason to give up.

Now the issue is whether to expend efforts on some recall campaigns (already happening with a couple of state senators) or wait for the general. I can guarantee you that Bloomberg will dump as much money as he can here and in other states to help the grabbers, so be prepared. Your state may be next.
