Littleton to Denver: FU on CO Mag Cap Limit

Colorado doesn’t have an ammunition capacity limit law—yet. The bill banning “high capacity” magazines is now sitting on Governor Hickenlooper’s desk. The smart money says Hickenlooper will sign House Bill 1224 or at least not not sign it (and let it become law). Its passage is bound to trigger outrage from Rocky Mountain State gun guys and prompt mag maker Magpul’s exodus (taking some 200 jobs out of state). Even before that fateful day, residents of Littleton, Colorado are vowing to make their displeasure known. They’re already proposing a ballot initiative to give voters a voice by passing a law stating that only the voters can restrict magazine size and remove any existing restrictions. There are still a number of steps before the measure makes it to the ballot, but a journey of a thousand miles…

  1. March 13, 2013
Today, the Colorado House of Representatives confirmed House Bill 1224 by a 34-30 vote, which will make all newly purchased magazines with a capacity over fifteen rounds illegal as of July 1, 2013. This bill is also so poorly written that it will make ANY MAGAZINE purchased after July 1 illegal to own due to fanatical language inserted by anti-gun extremist New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s puppets in Denver.

  2. “the care and feeding of a finicky machine like a Springfield M1A”

Of course that got me a little grumpy 🙂 …as I never like to hear my M1A be referred to as a “finicky machine” … but the rest of the sentence puts it in perspective, and I guess compared to an AK, it does need a little TLC.

Of course it will also punch a hole in anything short of an armored car or tank, so all of that power might be worth learning how to read and/or service your battle rifle 😉

    Good article though, so thanks.

  3. The T44 was a scaled-up version of Bill Ruger’s existing Mini-14 rifle. I’m kidding. I just wanted to see if I could get TTAG readers to spit out their lunch. Looks like it worked, too</i>

I actually started laughing out loud, well done. I'm glad to see this articles and hope to see others like it, sometimes hearing about gun politics gets old (this site has like a 5:1 ratio of gun-politics to other gun related articles)

  4. As gun owners, we really have to stop getting dragged into conversations where we end up attempting to defend criminal activity. For one thing it makes us all start looking naive at best and lunatic at worst. That’s not to say that we can’t disagree with the common sense and legality of some of these laws. But lets be clear a case like this one is not a case of defiance aimed to point out the illegitimacy of these laws, its quite simply a case of someone clearly breaking the law. He is not our brother in arms, he is not a good guy swept up by corrupt police, he willfully attempted to do something illegal. Just because the end result was someone arrested for selling a gun, we should not feel any particular need to rise to the defense.

  5. To be clear this is a proposal being formed by Littleton residents to AMEND THE COLORADO STATE CONSTITUTION; not a Littleton town law.

Also, the poll on the Denver Post site shows ~10k of ~12k polled support the idea.

  6. Mike and the liberals are ok with the police having these weapons, just not us. And they use these weapons in wars against all sorts of people, they tolerate that. It’s the law abiding folk they don’t trust with the tools.
    Interesting position they have.

  7. This is another of those contentious topics. Personally, my HD pistol has a rail mounted light. The light is either on or off, no momentary operation. I like it there becuase it leaves my support hand free for support (who’d have thunk it?) or for reloading, calling 911, whatever. I don’t wear a holster to bed so it’s a nonissue. YMMV.

  8. Obvious that Difi does NOT have the intellect of a 6th grader. Clear to all paying attention she has NEVER had the brains to even get on a Foxworthy show as an aspiring 5th grader.

  9. Questions I’d like to ask Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa:

“Are your mental health professionals concerned about students who
become victims of rape because they could not defend themselves?”

“Are the psychological effects of a death that occurred through self-
defense worse than the effects of a rape or physical assault?”

“Even if the increased presence of firearms leads to an increase in
accidental wounds, why would that affect your mental health
    professionals?”

“Are firearms the root cause of depression and suicidal thoughts?”

“Will the increase of firearms cause an increase in the number of
students undergoing depression and having suicidal thoughts?”

“Since firearms do not cause depression and suicide, if there is an
increase in firearm related suicides, won’t there be a decrease in
    other methods?”

“Are your campus’ LEOs incapable of taking training in target recognition?”

“Are your campus’ LEOs incapable of training for school shooting incidents?”

“If you have gasses and chemicals that are immediately dangerous to health
should a leak or puncture occur, why aren’t they already in a physically
    secure area?”

  10. These “threats” are just another part of the gun grabbers’ strategy. Some of them are made up by the “victim” to justify a vote for more gun control. Some are instigated by members of the gun control team — tools of the Obama-Bloomberg machine. They’re calling and threatening legislators in a bit of clever reverse psychology, posing as right wing extremists. They know it will cement that legislator’s opinion.

A tiny percentage of them might come from real gun owners. Let’s face it, we have a few fanatics in our midst. But the vast majority of us know that singling people out and threatening them with violence won’t win us any battles.
