It can be hard deciding where to safely store your home defense firearm, especially when you have a wee bairn running around the family manse. Naturally, you want the gat to be quickly available for easy access. At the same time, there’s the imperative to protect the child and keep it out of his or her reach. In the case of Donald and Tracy Greeson, they apparently weren’t particularly concerned about that second consideration. As orlandosentinel.com reports, Lake County deputies were called to the house and found that their “4-year-old had shot off part of his left ring finger with a .40-caliber handgun that was kept in a couch at his home in Altoona, according to a sheriff’s report.” As if a toddler who’s now down a partial digit weren’t bad enough . . .

Donald Greeson, a convicted felon, initially told deputies he’d left the gun on top of an entertainment center in the living room, but later admitted to putting it in the corner of the sofa the night before. Greeson also admitted to smoking marijuana, taking prescription pills and usingmeth as recently as two days before the shooting. He was charged with child neglect, unsafe storage of storage of a firearm and other drug and firearm charges. Tracy Greeson was charged with child neglect.

The child’s now in the care of a foster family. The Greesons are residing in the county hoosegow. And we’ll be sending them both some commemorative IGOTD hardware along with as much over-the-counter birth control paraphernalia as we can possibly cram in the package.

  1. A convicted felon with a gun? That must be a lie. It’s against the law for him to have a gun. This was a Brady Bunch set up to make all gun owners look bad.

    • Yeah, I can’t wrap my head around how he had a gun when he wasn’t supposed to, along with the drugs and all that.
He must have been high still to offer all that confession to the cops to fatten up the charges.
Or maybe he wanted to get away from his white trash wife for as long as possible.

  2. I was looking at the photos and thinking that they were both meth users prior to reading the article. Meth and guns don’t mix, apparently.

  3. THAT’S IT!

We need a law against felon’s having firearms.

We should get one passed to stop 4 year old’s from playing with guns, too.

  4. Someday, this kid will realize that shooting off half his finger was the best thing that ever happened to him. Assuming that his “parents” never regain custody of him.

BTW…nice black eye on the lady. I wonder who gave that to her.

    • Sadly, the “kid” probably did not fall far from the tree. So expect a repeat of this story in 20 years or so.

  5. No convicted felon in possession of a firearm charge? Or con only the feds charge that in Florida? I’m pretty sure it’s also state law where I live.

  6. For those looking for a happy ending, don’t. She was only charged with child neglect. They almost never charge women with the same crimes as the man even if they are both complicit. She won’t do time, just an outpatient drug treatment. With him gone they can load up the welfare on this disadvantaged single mother who will have her kid back befor July 4, all at your expense. Dad will be out in plenty of time to teach Jr. how to cook his own meth and become a profitable member of the criminal underground.

And yes, all those failings of the legal system will be used to prove why you shouldn’t have guns.

  7. Doubt Donald needs the birth control equipment, but a vasectomy would help. He could probably benefit from lots of lube in the coming years.

    • What no conjugal visits in FL? If they’re married they get to get it on. More babies = bigger check for mommy’s meth!

  8. Do you actually mail them IGOTD awards? And if so, what does the award look like? I can’t figure out if that line is a joke or not…

    • TTAG moked up a few fake trophies. It’s a little expensive to mail ALL those IGOTD trophies out to the winners/
