A federal grand jury has indicted a man suspected of shooting up a New York City subway train last month — an attack that wounded 10 people and rattled a city already experiencing a rise in violent crime.

The panel charged Frank James, 62, on Friday with committing a terrorist attack or other violence against a mass transportation system and discharging a firearm during a violent crime. Both counts carry a maximum sentence of life in prison. The weapons count has a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence.

James was arrested on April 13, about 30 hours after authorities say he drove from Philadelphia and unleashed smoke bombs and dozens of bullets in a train full of morning commuters as it approached a Brooklyn station. The shooting victims ranged in age from 16 to 60; all were expected to survive.

Authorities said James’s bank card, cellphone and a key to a van he had rented were found at the shooting scene. Police also said they found the handgun used in the shooting and traced it to James.

James is jailed without bail. An arraignment hasn’t yet been scheduled, according to the U.S. attorney’s office for New York’s Eastern District.

A lawyer representing James at the time of his arrest cautioned not to rush to judgment and noted that James alerted police to his whereabouts. James was arrested in Manhattan’s East Village after he called a tip line saying he was at a fast food restaurant in that section of the city.

A motive for the attack is unclear. In numerous rants he posted on YouTube, James, who is black, made bigoted remarks about people of various backgrounds and railed against New York Mayor Eric Adams and complained about mental health care he received in the city years ago.

  1. “In numerous rants he posted on YouTube, James, who is black, made bigoted remarks about people of various backgrounds … ”

    This is called a “clue.”

    • Of course none of the victims had any means whatsoever to defend themselves since they were obeying the law that requires them to have a Concealed Carry Permit. And rest assured because of Concealed Carry being a law the perp frank james knew the odds of not meeting any victim resistance were highly in his favor as the results proved. In other words there are nitwits behind Concealed Carry Permits who need to be indicted for public endangerment.

      • Eve worse: NY argues that the subway is a “sensitive place” —
        i.e. “gun free zone.”

      • Those connected enough or have enough money who are then privileged enough to hold a New York Pistol License sure as hell don’t ride the subways.

    • Notice that the word “White” was never used.. This couldn’t have been racially motivated, could it? Naaaaah. Black people can’t be racist… *wink*

  2. Sometimes, you can find a tiny thread of empathy for some guy who has just had too much crap, and goes off the deep end. Remember when ‘going postal’ was a thing? Yeah, just a tiny thread of empathy, hitting out at people who have allegedly abused and insulted the guy for years.

People like this, who lash out at total random strangers?

There is no punishment that is too barbaric for them. He didn’t care who he shot – male, female, children, elderly, black, white, Christian, Moslem, or atheist. He wanted to hurt and kill people, and didn’t care who.

Stake him out over a fire and hill, and leave him for a few weeks. Come back to collect the bones, if you care. I won’t.

    • So THAT’S whut you gotta do in NYC to get a felony rap? Shocked n amazed🙄🤓😃Happy Mother’s Day to all you mother’s!

    • Paul, did you see Falling Down? Michael Douglas, Robert Duvall, Tuesday Weld.

      • Gadsden —

Oh, but that’s totes different. “White supremacist shoots minority victims.” Definitely not PC.

    • I understand exactly what you are saying Paul. But what about the people that asked for help and were dismissed? Liberals said we can’t incarcerate the mentally ill against their will and then something like this happens. Who is at fault?

  3. I’m sure there’s a special place in hell for that b@stard — just as I’m sure there’s a place of privilege for him among Democrats all over the country. All he did was try to kill as many white people as possible, which is nothing that the Demons aren’t trying to do albeit a bit more slowly.

  4. What do you mean, “You can’t go home again?”
He has assured himself a home for the rest of his life. I hope they put him in with the AB.

  5. “. . . a terrorist attack . . . and discharging a firearm during a violent crime. Both counts carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Interesting; NO mandatory minimum sentence for terrorist attack or discharging a firearm during a crime. Yet, anyone who might have otherwise have been carrying a firearm for self-defense would have faced the 10 year mandatory minimum.

Bernie Getz; where were you when we really needed you?

    • The James Gang quit robbing banks and started playing music. Maybe they can get some horns and brings the walls down?

  6. Thank the good Lord nobody died during this cowardly attack on the people of New York. When people like this spew their racist rehtoric it automatically sets me on the offensive and I want to confront them. However this guy is obviously damaged goods and needs help. We as a society need to find a way to help those in dire need. Liberal a$$holes are responsible for this saying that we have no right to incarcerate those with mental issues against their will. He even expressed his frustration with not being helped. He needs to be held responsible for his actions but he also needs to be helped as a human being in need. I’m not defending him as much as I’m trying to show that we are lacking when it comes to helping each other.

      • When you have a mental breakdown and ask for help and are dismissed like he was do you want the public to treat you likewise?

        • The time for psychiatric intervention was long before this perp picked up a gun and violated innocent people.

If he’s found before trial to be not responsible for his actions due to mental defect, so be it. He still needs to be held accountable for what he did.

      • “The time for psychiatric intervention was long before this perp picked up a gun and violated innocent people.”
No shit! That is exactly what I was saying. Fuck you assholes that don’t get it. I said I’m not defending him I’m pissed at those that didn’t try to help him.

  7. The article says a federal grand jury indicted him. Does that mean that state laws are not adequate for the crime?

    • NY Laws don’t seem to work for poc. They get released on no bail multiple times and it they do show up for court they get a wrist slap, maybe.

  8. So another Colin Ferguson style shooting, both men knew the passengers would be unarmed and therefore defenseless. Not to mention being driven by a steady diet of anti white sentiment, “if you failed at life it is because of white people keeping you down”.

  9. NYC ammo laws are F’d up. Even if you have a permit for a handgun…you absolutely cannot possess any ammunition not specifically designed to be fired in that particular firearm.

Good grief, I have ammunition for gunz that I don’t own…I have a couple hundred rounds of 5.7×28 to shoot in a friends pistol and carbine when he brings it to the range. The same buddy has a Barrett…that’s why I have some .50 BMG on hand.

I am grateful that there is no reason for me to ever travel to New York City…not in this life or the next!

  10. Angry and upset because he didn’t get the help he may very well have needed. Looking to strike back at a society he believes failed him. Still, he made the choice to do this. And, it is plain he knew what he was doing and had planned things out to some extent.
So, life in prison, or life with no chance of release in a mental hospital. Either way he needs to be taken out of the society he hates and kept from doing harm to anyone else.

  11. That’s why I say we have no hope for change except by force. This country has been taken over by corrupt politicians for over 45 years. Everyone one that in government from the past 45 years has baggage. They all need to be put on trial and investigated.i do home work ….. 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤.𝐜𝐨𝐦
