Hogue‘s bread-and-butter product line has long-since been “OverMolded Rubber” handgun grips and rifle stocks. By bonding a soft, grippy rubber onto a hard polymer internal structure, felt recoil is greatly decreased and purchase and comfort are increased, all while typically reducing weight as compared to wood. Brand new to the OverMolded lineup is a thumbhole stock for Ruger 10/22 rifles, available for standard and bull barrels as well as for fixed and takedown models. The PWS T3 Summit Rifle review exposed mixed opinions on its laminate stock, so this seemed like a good timing to grab the new Hogue offering and give it a whirl. . .
The stock is ambidextrous with a nice cheekpiece on both sides…
…and a pistol grip with dual-sided palm swells.
It comes in a handful of colors — OD Green, Flat Dark Eark, Purple, Ghille Green, Ghille Tan, and classic Black as seen here. A pebbled texture is molded into the pistol grip area and into the sides of the forend.
Also adorning the well-sculpted forend is a sling stud, which was a glaring omission on the T3’s laminate stock.
A second sling stud resides out back. The stock also features a pronounced butt hook on the bottom rear, which can be a great help for stabilizing a rifle on a rear sandbag or via pressing on it with the web of your non-trigger hand.
Recoil with a .22 LR is a non-issue, of course, so a slim-yet-comfortable rubber butt pad caps off the back of the stock.
Fit with all parts of the receiver, the magazine, and the bolt that holds stock to receiver was flawless. Installation was completely drop-in with no tweaking required whatsoever.
This particular thumbhole stock is designed to free-float a 0.92″ 10/22 bull barrel, and free-float it mostly does…
The PWS barrel just touched a cross support about 3″ from the receiver, which I “fixed” — in quotes because it may or may not have actually mattered — by removing a few mils of material with a hand file. 
On The Range
The feel of the rubber is spot-on. Soft and grippy, yet tough. It provides a uniquely solid purchase in addition to a very high level of comfort. No surprise that I like it, as, again, this has been Hogue’s specialty for decades and they clearly have the rubber formula dialed just right. The FRP structure underneath is strong and fairly stiff — although the forend can certainly be flexed a bit if you’re twisting on it or pulling it to either side — but the whole unit remains light in weight.
It shoots great and supports well from standing, off sandbags, or when using a bipod. I do enjoy a rear butt hook (don’t quote me on that) to provide additional push-pull stability for any prone or bench shooting. It’s nice to see a full-size, ~14″ length of pull, too. Really, the only complaint I can come up with is the one cross support that prevented a fully free-floated barrel. Other than that tidbit, fit, function, and feel are all excellent.

Ergonomics * * * * *
It’s well thought-out and provides lots of excellent options for support hand placement and the use of a sandbag or bipod. The cheek weld and pistol grip both feel great, as does the rubber material. For me, the length of pull is excellent. It might have made sense to do a shorter stock and ship it with some spacers, but this 13.75 to 14-or-so inch LoP will work for most adult shooters.
Function * * * *
The forend can be flexed a little bit, which I know would bother Tyler as he loads up his bipod like crazy, and that one little support piece did push on the underside of the barrel a few inches from the receiver. Otherwise it’s top notch and the fit everywhere around the receiver is excellent.
Overall * * * *
A really great, comfortable stock and definitely a good option for any 10/22. I think with only the addition of length of pull adjustment I would have given it five stars as, although it’s perfect for me, the full-size LoP is going to be a bit long for some people and there’s no way to fix that here.
Nice. How does it compare to the Magpul hunter stock? If I’m not mistaken, the MSRP on this is slightly less.
I don’t know. Haven’t played with the new Magpul one yet. Interestingly enough, a lot of Magpul’s product photos show it on this PWS T3 Summit Rifle as well. Despite the fact that I sort of complained that the length of pull on this Hogue one is fixed at an adult-sized length rather than making it short and using spacers to bring it up to full size, I have to say that the look of all of those stacked spacers on the Magpul one isn’t my favorite. It otherwise looks cool, but that stack of spacers isn’t super appealing aesthetically…
I absolutely think this looks better, but then again the modern look or thumbhole stocks have never bothered me. For my monkey arms being 6’4″ it will be fine I’m sure, but since 10/22s are such great training rifles for smaller kids or women it would be nice for the adjustment.
As long as you’re reviewing hogue, any thoughts on reviewing their ars holster? I got one for my beretta and have rather mixed feelings about it.

Has anyone ever reviewed the Hogue AR stock with the rubber cheekweld? I’ve almost bought one on a number of occasions but just want to hear a reliable review first and can’t try them out in any local stores.
I’ve also played with them at my FFL but haven’t actually used them. I’ve always liked the overmold rubber and they otherwise seem nice. Nothing that makes them particularly unique except for lots of QD sockets, the rubber overmold cheek piece, and a rubber butt pad that looks somewhat similar to the one on this 10/22 stock. And lots of color options. And the fact that the color can match the overmold pistol grip as well as the forend and the stock can come in a kit w/ all three or they’re also sold separately.

I know you did this build awhile ago but I was was wondering how you mounted the bipod. I just got the stock but didn’t really want to drill the new stock. LMK
I recently purchased the Hogue stock for my10/22 takedown and found that the forearm felt like it was falling off even when tightening very much.
After calling Hogue they did not seem to have a fix other than to ask me to wrap tape around the takedown lever that goes thru the forearm piece of the stock. I was not crazy about using scotch tape to help hold a new stock on my new gun so I opted to return it.
When I asked about getting return shipping refunded they were very vague about it so at this current standing I have gone from a previously happy Hogue customer to a not so sure anymore. After all I did not produce and sell the defective stock.
I guess I will take the wait and see approach to online reviews for them depending on how this ends up. I even voiced my desire to stay with them on their stock because I like it the best of all that are offered for this gun but that did not seem to matter. I felt like if I got another exchange stock and it was the same I would be out a total of $40 for return shipping twice and this does not feel like fair business to the Consumer.
Well I hope I have better luck than you “the reviewer” did. At this point it doesn’t feel like I am being treated like a customer but rather a nuisance.
There was no mention if the rubber overmold catches on clothing. In the store is seemed to be rather sticky and when rubber overmold drags on clothing it can create a distraction when you shift position.
Does the rubber attract clothing fibers, dust or dirt? Whereas hard rubber or polymers and even wood can be wiped off easily I’ve found that rubber overmold pistol grips can be a real pain to keep clean, you can’t just wipe them off you need to wash them. How is it with this stock?
I’m thinking of buying the one they have in the store but don’t need a dirt or clothing fiber magnet nor something that can’t easily be just wiped off without getting into a soap and water deal.
