“The owner at the Four Oakes Market says the store has been robbed three times before, and this time he decided to fight back, and it was all caught on tape.” Two dudes in masks had just come into his store heavy, one of them grabbing Mangal Singh’s brother. “I saw the guy, I saw the gun, the hoodie, everything,” the owner, Mangal Singh, told cbslocal.com . . .

What happened next was nothing short of an action movie scene as a customer dropped to the ground. Kulbier (Singh) was dragged down an aisle with the gun at his head.

At the exact same time, Mangal grabbed his revolver and the robber, still at the door, knew he made a mistake.

“I saw the gun, the hoodie, he looked up I shot him,” said Mangal.

It doesn’t appear that the bad guys expected any real resistance. When Mangal opened fire, one of the two took off like a scalded dog. And Kulbier wasn’t going quietly either, gun to his head or not.

Despite not speaking English, he let his fists do the talking by taking the gunman on in a struggle that would, incredibly, leave Kulbier with the robber’s firearm, which ended up being a pellet gun.

Nineteen-year-old Jermain Walker was done for and a stick was enough to keep him subdued.

We’re not sure what language had to do with Kulbier’s ability to wrestle the pellet gun from Walker and hold him til the cops arrived, but OK. Mangal summed up the situation pretty succinctly. “Everybody was trying to protect their own home and right now this is home.”

  1. Based on the timestamps, looks like the cops took about 6 or so minutes to arrive. It’s been said before, and I will take the opportunity to say it again, “When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.”

  2. Did you guys notice the stick-wielding clerk wind up, ready to smack the bad guy again as the cop took him down? LOL! Love it!

  3. I thought wearing a hoodie automatically got you immunity for any laws you choose to break…… Seriously, I’m happy to see no one was seriously hurt, at least one bad guy is caught, and The store clerk willing to fight a guy holding a gun to his head, shows some serious bravery. Not sure it was the best option, but it worked for him against this perp.

  4. These two youths were clearly only looking to acquire skittles and iced tea. Did that really justify lethal force?

  5. Who in the hell robs Sikhs? (I’m assuming they are Sihks, based on the names)…

So…the Ghurkas opened a store down the block. They’re small in stature, I think I’ll rob it…

Some of those “foreigners” are the heirs to thousands of years of warrior culture…

Wha-wha-what?!? Violence occurs outside of movies?! Who would have thought.
