Confederates? Nazis? No Gun Show For You!: IMI Systems Quote of the Day

Robert Farago - comments No comments

“Photos taken by a legislative aide at the center during the last firearm show showed some Confederate memorabilia and books on the Nazis were sold at the show. That led to discussion about regulating what vendors at County Center trade shows could sell. ‘There’s absolutely no use for that in any place in our society,’ [Westchester County Executive George] Latimer said. ‘And certainly we can’t control the society at large but we can certainly control those things that are under county government.'” – George Latimer bans Westchester County Center gun shows with executive order [via lohud.com]

  1. Colin Noir for president!
    Love him and his show
He did a great review on the CZ Scorpion that convinced me to buy one
He does great ads for the NRA
    Tavor is a nice bullpup
You have to send it to them to convert to left ejection
I bought a Steyr Aug and like it better
Easily converted from lefty to right ejection in one minute without tools

  2. They don’t even want books about nazis to be sold anymore? Hmm… almost as if they want to erase history… time to head off to the local book burning!

      • The writer of the newspaper article or the county spokesperson simply does not understand the scope of the First Amendment. It does not matter whether they pass a county ordinance or draft a new contract provision; content-based discrimination by a state actor is still prohibited.

      • If the reason to ban gun shows is because some unliked content was on display, that is content-based discrimination and unconstitutional. It doesn’t matter that they didn’t ban just the unliked content.

        Reply
      • Not really. The government can’t really ban written content, at all. Even if it’s totally fake, made up and obscene. You could publish a magazine or book about all the robotic alien Nazi Jewish sluts that rule congress through forced sex all you want, (with pictures) and it couldn’t be banned. Example: All tabloids, pornography, and the New York Times.

    • According to the article, it is Republicans that are now trying to do this and with contractual efforts rather than laws (bans).

      • From a First Amendment standpoint, it matters little whether they do it with a law, a regulation, a written or unwritten policy. The courts take a “Green Eggs and Ham” approach. They may not, shall not, with a rule, they shall not with some other tool. They may not shall not with a writ, not even just a little bit.

  3. They banned gun shows entirely. They legislature banned them last year, but it was veto’ed by the former governor. The last gun show was only the first one in years.

This is intentionally misleading. Continued great work, Farago.

  4. this is just something else they will use as reason to enact restrictions on internet access. this country is about to really go down the tubes. surely to god people won’t re-elect trump. he doesn’t give a shit about or know what is in the Constitution. All he cares about is corporate-benefiting legislature.

  5. So a business (eg, a bakery), run by a private citizen, must provide any and all services related to their business (eg, decorate a cake with items they morally object to – even if it were, say a Nazi symbol or Confederate Flag).

But a government can decide what types of events can and cannot rent their space (ie, can deny any and all services related to that particular business). Got it.

So those Constitutional Amendments – those must apply to the Citizenry, and not the Government, right?

  6. An interest in Nazi’s may make one a historian, not a sympathizer. Learning about the past is an important part of not repeating it.

  7. A sting run on Armslist probably isn’t representative of Internet gun transactions. Many of the sellers there are FFLs, who are already legitimate businesspeople with many transactions to their name. Moreover, even the private individual sellers are more apt to be legitimate than sellers in general, because they have a regular presence on the site as buyers or browsers, if not as occasional sellere from their personal collections.

The entire site owes its viability to keeping a clean shop going, too. This accounts for several accounts of GAO being frozen. Its in the website’s interest to shoo away bad actors who could get the place sued or shut down.

I’d be more interested in a study that targeted a site not specifically devoted to firearms, but rather one that just offers individuals an opportunity to come together over whatever merchandise. Craigslist or something similar might be s contender

  8. Funny thing, I think all the anti-2A / anti-gun MFs (and all evil communist POS (D) MFs [sick pustule of a convoluted redundancy that that is]) will quickly find out that (like the 80% rule in CA) banning guns will lead to a spectacular jump in people making them outright. People will make more lethal ammunition, people will modify weapons, etc., and, shortly thereafter, people will rise up and [at the most benign] depose them [and at the worst – you won’t even be able to fill in the blank]. It’s only happened EVERY FING TIME HUMANS HAVE BEEN THIS BIG OF A TYRANNICAL CONTROLLING D1<K TO EACH OTHER.

Somebody slap that guy already? if not, his eyes might appreciate a good one.

They go the range all smoked up They have sank boats, drowned people, injured numerous people but their really really really unsafe but really lucky as far as the law goes. So no pot doesn’t go with motorized vehicles, boats, heavy equipment, and guns

  10. The anti-gunners are getting a bit frantic and we can expect even more extreme distortions, and fantastical claims based upon half truths and inventive propaganda. One option for the Bloomberg propaganda machine is to blatantly and repeatedly claim that “anyone” can buy a firearm online and “prove” it by purchasing several muzzleloaders and cap and ball revolvers. Since there are bolt action muzzleloaders with plastic stocks and scopes, the Mothers Against the Constitution (or whatever name Bloomberg is using today) could present pictures of “modern rifles” and “deadly” Colt .44 revolvers as proof of their claims. (without even telling a Big lie – you can buy online modern muzzle load rifles, and replica Colt cap and ball revolvers, and both are just as effective as any other non-cartridge firearm)

I am not opposed to online or mail order purchases (I purchased 5 ML firearms on-line just last year) and do not want any new “rules” to impair my ability to buy muzzleloaders, black powder and accessories over the internet. I point this “loophole” out (on this forum only) simply because we all know that billionaires Bloomberg, Soros, Bezos, and others do not care about either the Constitution or the truth. They will distort anything to get their way, and have responded to losing in November 2016 by pushing more money and more falsehoods through their pet causes! Be Prepared!!!!

  11. Any chance of you guys doing a review of the Atibal scopes, preferably with multiple samples from multiple sources of the same scope (mfg provided, purchased, borrowed from buddy)?

Regarding the FN rifle- I like it, but it’s all going to come down to the street price. There are a lot of options at the $2k pricepoint, and it looks like it’s only at MSRP-10% currently. I might be tempted to pull the trigger (no pun intended) if it reached -20% ($1600 retail).

  12. That pricepoint puts them in the bracket with some serious competition.

FN or not they are really running into boutique manufactures who are just as proven as they are. Seems like that’s all anybody will be paying for with this setup, truth be told.

  13. I got partway through the review, saw the bit about the lack of a “uncomfortable finger groove”, and thought, “Hmm… This must be a jwtaylor review!”

Kidding aside, how was the balance on the rifle? I had an AR with a similar configuration (STR, 18″ heavy barrel) and it always felt very muzzle heavy and uncomfortable to shoot offhand. I recently swapped the STR out for a UBR Gen 2, which made a world of difference.

  14. Curious, anyone else here actually live in Westchester? (Currently?) I went to the gun show last year – the one allegedly featuring the “Nazi Memorabilia.” Not wanting to waste my admission fee, I took at least two complete circuits of the show floor. I saw that lone table. It was a sad collection of junky German militaria, a few (very few) Nazi propaganda pieces, some books about the Third Reich and its military equipment, and some historical stuff on the European Theater of Operations. At least half of the books on that table were mainstream non fiction tomes that you can find at Barnes and Noble. It was perhaps the least visited table of the whole show. I saw only a few people stop by for a moment, lift up a book or a trinket, and move on. It’s been a struggle to explain to a blizzard of snowflakes that an interest in the ETO and the German military machine in no way equals a desire to join the ranks of the National Socialist Party.
Astorino was definitely a friend to Westchester gun owners, but curiously, he could have “approved” the Gun Show in the closing hours of his term in office. I called his office, and the people in Constituent Services told me that the operators of the show hadn’t approached them with a contract, so there was nothing to sign.
That leads me to think that the operator figured that Latimer would countermand or try to countermand any legacy agreement between him and the County. Or perhaps Astorino had the opportunity, but simply didn’t – perhaps to help “smooth the transition” between him and Latimer, and not having been presented with a contract was an excuse.
So here’s hoping that the event can be run in some private venue – we do have a few hotels with enough conference space to run a decent-sized gun show.

  17. Actually I find myself wondering just how many guns they find that have duplicate serial numbers. I recall seeing a documentary a few years ago that showed a few guy’s in Portugal hand building 1911s complete with brand markings and a serial number. This was a part of an international gun trade that often provided arms that made their way to the US. That kind of begs the question of how often do we see a duplicate serial number showing up in guns tracked by the ATF. I kind of wonder if one could go about filing a FOIA request to find out that information.

  18. What a load of twaddle.

Before the GCA of ’68, there were plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of shotguns and .22’s out there in the market without any serial number on them – and these guns were made by big-name gun companies. My book has multiple “NSN” entries in the “serial number” column from working on older guns like these.

  19. You note the ATF doesn’t publish any data on the number of firearm traces that led to an arrest or conviction.

Do any of the jurisdictions with firearm registration regimes publish data on the number of times their registries were queried, and the number of those queries that led to an arrest or conviction?

    Speer Gold Dot
    Remington Golden Saber
    Remington HTP
and for the little Kel-Tec P32:
Sellier & Bellot .32 Auto FMJ, because those little things don’t have enough energy to expand reliably (and designs that expand don’t penetrate very well).

Does this apply to robbery from non LEO’s?

  23. soooo. Just gonna gloss over the gang violence aspect are they? Well not me. Seems every single time we see those demographics in crime reports it can be traced back to gang wars, generational poverty, or some poor black or latino shmuck getting caught in the cross fire from a gang war.

Maybe if we could get them to change that, maybe if these communities would actually try to alter the culture that glorifies the thugs (not likely since every rapper, athlete, and star tries to project that persona), and most of all if they would perhaps start to try to foster actual fathers rather than baby daddies we could end the bloodshed.

Wanna know why you’re still stuck in the projects? It’s because you can’t be bothered to get a legal job because you refused to get an education thinkin your “fire beats” and “mad ballin skills” would pay the bills. So now in your late 20’s you’re dumb as a rock, got a rap sheet that weighs more than a small child, and owe back child support equal to the national debt.

No but it’s cool though that dude in that other colored shirt totally needed to be shot and you totally had to sell those kids that crack cause you makin mad stacks yo.

Maybe pull your head out of your ass and start actin right while you’re at it. Oh and white folks are just as bad about all that crap too so don’t think it’s just the blacks and Hispanics I’m directing this little tirade at.

  24. I don’t care if you OC, CC, Shoulder holster, whatever. If your Situational AWARENESS SUCKS, you’re going to eventually become a victim! Too many people are walking around in lala land with their head up their *ss, thinking they’re badass because they carry – it doesn’t matter if they’re OC or CC. They don’t pay attention to their surroundings, they get distracted by something shiny, they think that their weapon is a deterrent, they’re chatting or texting on their cell, and they’re NOT watching their surroundings. If you carry, ESPECIALLY if you carry, you should be paying attention all the time to who’s around you, and what’s going on. LOOK at people’s friggin faces, look at their eyes. Are they eying you? Do they seem to have a particular or unusual interest in you? RED FRIGGIN FLAG folks. Unless you’re my wife, your interest in me should be no more than passing, and if you’re another carrier, you should move on just like I’m going to move on. This isn’t an OC/CC issue, but while I do believe OC advertises to criminals that you are carrying, and causes issues with the sheeple who are Anti-gun, I don’t think it’s that big a deal unless you’re a douche who thinks the reason to carry OC is “COOL”. For those of you who say “carry an unloaded weapon in your OC, and a loaded one concealed” – guess what, you’re going to go to jail when the DA looks at the evidence and sees you shot someone who was fleeing in the back. For those that say CC has tells, I promise you, you won’t know I’m carrying unless I either “TELL YOU VERBALLY” or you have been trained to spot it. MOST criminals don’t know how to spot a CC’er.

  25. Murder inequality must end! C’mon, white people. Give up your white privilege, go out there and kill someone.

And while you’re at it, deal some smack and have ten children by eleven different women. And then burn down your neighborhood.

    Equality depends on you.

I am a little curious about why a bunch of English speaking white guys would have a .co website about the Appalachian and Pacific Crest trails. .co is Columbia.
