Given the temper of the times it was only a matter of time before the gun rights movement moved from the virtual world to the real world. Leading the charge: the Citizens Committee Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) and Second Amendment Foundation (SAF). Along with a growing coalition of gun rights orgs dedicated to defeating civilian disarmament, they’ve announced “Gun Appreciation Day” for Saturday, January 19, two days before President Obama is sworn in for his second term as President of the United States. The press release [after the jump] is a little vague on what you’re supposed to do for GAD. The website urges supporters to line up “around the block at gun stores, gun counters, gun shows, and gun ranges to protest the Obama administration’s post Sandy Hook assault on gun rights.” Methinks the concept is evolving, even as the battle to defend and extend Americans’ Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms intensifies. CCRKBA, SAF JOIN SUPPORT OF ‘GUN APPRECIATION DAY’ ON JAN. 19

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and the Second Amendment Foundation have joined a broad coalition of organizations in support of a national “Gun Appreciation Day” on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Gun Appreciation Day website is at gunappreciationday.com.

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb said the movement is in response to announcements from the Obama White House and Capitol Hill that there will be legislative attempts to impose wide-ranging restrictions on firearms ownership, including bans on modern semiautomatic sporting rifles, handguns and ammunition magazines.

“We need to ban politicians who assault our rights,” said Gottlieb, who is also the SAF executive vice president, “not firearms that are used thousands of times a day to protect lives and property from criminal attack.”

“The Obama administration has shown that it is more than willing to trample the Constitution to impose its dictates upon the American people,” added Gun Appreciation Day chairman Larry Ward, president of Political Media, Inc. “If the American people don’t fight back now, Obama will do the Second Amendment what he has already done to the First with Obamacare – gut it without a moment’s thought to our basic constitutional rights.”

It is no accident that Jan. 19 was selected for this event. It falls two days before President Obama is sworn in for his second term.

“We want the president and his allies on Capitol Hill to understand their new push will result in a shove back from the people,” Gottlieb stated. “Millions of law-abiding firearms owners are not about to be penalized for the unconscionable act of a madman. We will not all be judged by the conduct of a single crazy person.

“Our intent is to telegraph a message to Congress and state legislatures around the country that trampling our rights is not an acceptable solution to violent crimes committed by people who don’t care about laws, much less the lives of the people they harm,” he said.

    • Really. But maybe just make the rounds at the LGSs and make some small purchases. An overpriced box of ammo here, … a bottle of Hoppes there …

Not that they need the business.

  1. Can I get some clarification, or doesn’t Alan Gottlieb head both CCRKBA and SAF? If so, do the serve different roles or what?

  2. At least once or twice a week, I reflect on the things I’m grateful for. Always near the top of that list are my firearms and my right to have them. So for me, “gun appreciation day” comes around pretty often…

  3. I’m down for whatever it takes to protect our country & our constitution , quit frankly I think to many ppl take everything our country for granted, take it from me I been around the world, have family who live in third world countries. & u don’t even wanna go there they’ll give
there left arm just to go out on there own proch’s in peace. I love our country for the land of the free & home of the brave.

  4. As it happens Gun Appreciation Day is also the day in which many of us will be hoofing it to our state Capitals. We will be bringing the voice of the people to those places, yes on a Saturday, so what!

We will demand from Washington or in my case Sacramento that we do not condone these actions being waged against us. We will denounce the upcoming legislation in our states and and the federal level in the strongest possible terms.

If that doesn’t work I will wear a pink tutu and dance around before the politicians until their eyes bleed, which won’t take that long… After that they won’t be able to sing anything.. You know being blind and all!!!

So if you want to get out behind your keyboards, and make your opinion heard join us. Navigate the interwebie on over to: https://www.facebook.com/GunControlMoreCrime
Like the page and sign up for the event! And don’t make me get all medieval on you!

    • Yeah, I was just about to ask what happened to the Capitals march scheduled for that day….that was my plan.

If everybody is doing something different and going to their particular location of choice, how will Jan 19th not resemble just an ordinary day?

The various gun groups need to start talking to each other so we can actually make this effort get noticed.

  5. I’ll get out to Cabelas then with my S&W 6″ revolver on my hip open carry & pick up some ammo. After a lifetime of being told self defense was immoral its good to be able to enjoy some freedom, Randy

    • Randy, In Michigan even though open carry is legal I have heard of others have been asked to leave Cabela’s store

  6. As a Jewess in the US, I can only say that ANY anti-gun plan from an ignoramus
like Slow Joe Biden or his dirty Kenyan boss is bound to be a loser idea.
Certainly it will make all REAL Americans put our 2nd Amendment FIRST! Both
criminals and overbearing governments respect FIREPOWER, not sweet talk. And
remember that America wasn’t won with a registered gun! -Wendy Weinbaum
