“Art is meant to send a message, to inspire or to provoke emotions,” thedenverchannel.com proclaims. “Inside a Denver metal shop, two artists are doing just that by turning old cameras and photography equipment into sculptures of life-like firearms.” Photographer Jason Siegel and metalworker Keith D’Angelo claim their work isn’t anti-gun . . .
The artists said they’re not doing this to take a certain side on the gun debate and they aren’t from a certain political viewpoint. They’re doing it to send a message.
“It’s crazy the amount of violence that’s going on right now and we think it’s important that we shed light on that,” Siegel commented.
“In the political climate and everything that’s happening in the world today, people get it and it really hits home,” D’Angelo added.
So . . . they are working from a political viewpoint. As underscored by the name of their project: Shoot Portraits not People. [Note to artists: some people — specifically criminals posing an imminent, credible threat of grievous bodily harm or death — need shooting.]
I’m not bothered by the bias. A pro-gun guy or gal can look at Mssrs. Siegel and D’Angelo’s handiwork and admire their works’ form, ingenuity, craftsmanship and wit without worrying one whit about the “debate” over “gun violence.”
As TTAG’s Armed Intelligentsia will attest, guns are cool. These gun-like sculptures are cool. The renown the artists are enjoying is related directly to the positive OK and negative emotions triggered by guns. As we say here in Texas, I could sit still for that.

Me. I Just like guns. And seems the statement being made is Guns ARE art. Artistry of form, mechanics, function, engraving, woodworking, gilding. They have created a free country, saved the world from Nazi’s, ended slavery here, provided food…

I wish I had pics of what a guy did with his hunting rifle when he became disabled to the point he couldn’t pack a deer out any longer: he replaced the action with a camera so the rifle’s scope worked as the viewfinder. The great thing was he did it in such a way that it could easily be returned to the original!
Wasn’t this the same guy who made guns out of old typewriters? I remember a TAG article a while back about that. I think this guy secretly wants a gun but his liberal sensibilities just won’t allow it.

I think the forward grip on the first gun is on backwards. I can’t view it as art until that is corrected. Now how about some art where steel and walnut is sculpted into beautiful, fully functioning guns? Now that requires real talent.

I voted for Putin,aand I live iin the U.S. leavingg out biases the man is doing a tremendous job with the situation in that area. Be his policies wrong or right, he is handiling it superbly. A modern day Theodore Roosevelt The Ukraine’s produce 1/4 to 2/3, the wheat of the world, U.S sections wouldn’t have mush effect if this was Russian controlled.. I’m sure given hands of policy Putin could eliminate ISIS in less then two years, methods not to have repercussions.Its a nasty, dark world and it needs good leader ship. Sounds like two people with too many feels got triggered, and the needed to be heard and bring awareness to some jobby (job-hobby) that they do that is otherwise ignored. They’re anti-gun, hoping to bag some shekels off pro-gun people whon think the recycled cameras look like something that the pro gunners like. And the anti-gun artists will giggle and pinch each other all the way to the bank.
