Mystery surrounds the ATF Gunwalker scandal. Who authorized the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ stingless sting operation that allowed, indeed enabled thousands of U.S. guns to flow to Mexican drug cartels? Why is the Obama administration stonewalling the Congressional investigation of Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious? What else are they hiding? And here’s another one: why has Mexican President Felipe Calderon remained on the sidelines of this story, continuing to cozy-up to President Obama when it’s clear that Uncle Sam supplied weapons to the narco-terrorists plaguing his country? The security strategy deployed by the federal government in Mexico and particularly in Ciudad Juárez to fight drug trafficking is a lie because the government of Felipe Calderón protects the Sinaloa cartel and its leader, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, claims Anabel Hernandez, Mexican journalist.

The author of “The Lords of Narco” said the U.S. action in the midst of this “war” has not been very clear. Information is surfacing that indicates that Sinaloa Cartel operations in Mexico have the concurrence of bodies like the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

“For the federal government priority is only the enemies of ‘El Chapo’ and that’s why we have the slaughter, so Ciudad Juárez is as it is,” says the journalist from Italy, where she teaches a series of conferences on the issue of organized crime.

Anabel Hernández has made quite the charge: the Sinaloa cartel has bought the Mexican government lock, stock and Calderon. What’s more, the DEA knows about the corruption and plays ball with Calderon to catch other cartels, giving the Sinaloas a pass. Which would account for Calderon’s lack of indignation on the whole Gunwalker deal.

This could blow up big, and not only in the halls of Congress . . .

A few days ago I published a document in which the lawyers of Vicente Zambada Niebla, son of the “Mayo” Zambada [above], will argue as a defense to Chicago Federal Court alleged Sinaloa drug cartel had been operating with the approval of agencies like the DEA.

That would open another chapter in history to finish to understand what is happening. I could document and the book is, is that the Department of State United States is quite clear that today the most powerful cartel in the United States, the criminal organization of drug sales more important, the Sinaloa Cartel, which is mapped by city, state, and is the one that has spread throughout the country.

  1. I’ve been commenting to this effect for months. Calderon is a crook, and he’s from a long line of crooks. On the corruption scale, the government of Mexico ranks behind only the governments of some third-world political sesspools like Zimbabwe and Rhode Island. Well, actually, that’s unfair to Zimbabwe. In any case, arming the Sinaloas at the expense of the Zetas and the other clans makes perfect sense from Calderon’s point of view. The Zetas are paramilitary while the Sinaloas are just criminals. Columbia made a similar decision when it backed the criminal Cali cartel over the revolutionary-minded Medellin cartel. It’s the way things are done in that part of the universe. So why the feigned surprise?

  3. I’m assuming no one is actually shocked by these charges. Mexico is corrupt from top to bottom, and that includes it’s scumbag ‘president’. How else can illegal enterprises like the drug cartels run whole parts of the country? If the Mexican government was clean, they could use their army and ask for our assistance to clean out the cartels. They don’t, and that says a LOT.

    The ATF has already proven complicit in trying to traffic guns from the US and thereby smear legitimate gun owners and dealers. The fact that the DEA might be in cahoots with the cartels should also come as little surprise.

    Mark my words – we’ll be invading Mexico in less than 10 years.

    By that metric, how can the head of our own Department of Homeland Security tell us with a straight face that our border with Mexico is under control? What is the juice when all recent administrations have allowed an almost open border? There is some juice in this mess for someone important.

  8. I read the original Spanish text that introduces the interview (while only skimming the interview itself). She’s not quite accusing Calderon of complicity outright in the effort to protect the Sinaloa Cartel. In fact, the article says she will not say for sure Calderon has direct knowledge of this approach (though she would find his lack of knowledge hard to believe). But she says she can document that the Mexican federal government – as a matter of strategy – has opted for helping uphold the Sinaloa Cartel as the dominant cartel in Mexico at the exception of all others; and that they do this – so they say – because they’d rather deal with one cartel rather than many at the same time. If so, why did they pick the Sinaloa Cartel, though?
