T-Bolt, via AAC

The Browning T-Bolt rifle has been around for a while now, offering a straight-pull option for those looking for a nice, accurate .22lr rifle. But according to John over at AAC, Browning is about to start manufacturing their rifles in a pre-threaded variety that will be ready for a silencer as soon as they roll off the factory floor. The official designation is the “T-Bolt Varmint Repeater Suppressor Ready,” and the MSRP on these puppies is set at about $800. It looks to be not only a superb rifle for those looking for some quiet plinking, but also teaching newbies. For those who already own an applicable silencer, the appeal of a rifle that comes pre-threaded is definitely a big draw. And if you own a can, chances are that the price tag won’t be all that scary.

    • Sounds like a good reason to send another round of messages to my representatives on the hill. I doubt anyone’s going to challenge the NFA now, but you gotta start somewhere. And it will be nice to send a message not along the lines of “stop panicking and don’t do anything stupid.” 🙂

  1. Maybe the trend will force “common sense” suppresor legislation making them unrestricted.

    • As awesome as that would be, I absolutely shudder at the thought of the current batch of congress-critters messing with the NFA. Because I’d almost guarantee the “Let’s fix some things while we’re here” mindset would come into play. And I’d also further bet the first thing would be adjusting the $200 tax for inflation (Which would be about $3485 if you adjust from $200 in 1934 to today’s dollars).

Now, if they just went in there to remove Suppressors from the NFA, killing the Hughes Amendment to FOPA wouldn’t be a bad thing either. I figure both are equally likely to happen.

  2. Very tempting. Silencer on a bolt action is even quieter than on a 10/22 semi-auto. Plus the free floating barrel. Kinda steep at $800 msrp though.

    • Well, the real world price seems to be a bit less…there’s one on Gunbroker for $665 right now. Still a lot pricier than a threaded 10/22.

      Pretty darn cool, though.

    • or if you want straight pull, the PWS T3.

the fv-sr is a wicked cool rifle. even full power loads are quiet out of it. with a decent scope we were crushing small rocks at 40yds.

i forgot how much fun that gun was…..hmmm….

  3. These aren’t “new”. They did a version of this a couple of years ago but it didn’t last long. Maybe the uptick in suppressor popularity has caused them to re-up the model. I would have gotten one but they didn’t include the left-hand version of the T-bolt in that offering. In the meantime, I got my old Belgian lefty T-bolt threaded.
