“Ted Nugent’s wife Shemane Deziel was just arrested at an airport in Dallas, Texas,” tmz.com reports, “and sources tell us it was because she brought a gun into the terminal. The arrest took place at Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport. It’s unclear if Ted was with Shemane at the time of the arrest.” The odds that Ted’s wife wanted to use her concealed carry firearm to do mischief to anyone are about as great as the chances that Kiss My Glock will be played at the next Presidential press conference. If the story pans out, Mrs. Motor City Madman will join the throngs of dopey U.S. gun owners who forgot to disarm before facing the TSA’s blue shirted goons. Whether she retains her right to keep and bear arms is yet to be determined. Time to lawyer up and get down (on bended knee).
Well if she was a Senator, she could plea out to a misdemeanor.

What was Barry Switzer’s fine? $75,000? And that was back when saner heads (well, somewhat, it’s all relative) ruled the day.
It seems that when this happens, the people often get off with a hefty fine and forfeiture of the gun. I’ll be interested to see if the authorities try to push this further than that and make an example of her due to her name.
I really don’t understand the point of criminal charges. People forget things from time to time, though that would be a really important thing. If they are willing to either turn it in, leave, or make other arrangments for traveling with it, there should be no problems. If they start acting agressively upon the discovery of their fiendish scheme, or the gun is found in such away that it would strongly indicate an attempt to smuggle it somewhere that’s prohibited, that’s different.
I guess that’s what happens when you replace company policy with federal laws, and add a dash of zero-tolerance: criminalizing otherwise law-abiding citizens.

Most jurisdictions ban firearms from terminals except if they are unloaded and in TSA approved container. You can usually pick someone up at the airport carrying if you don’t leave your car.
Most states do not prohibit airport carry.
Florida, Virginia, and Massachusettes do. And Ohio and Nevada require open carry.
Other than that and a few others, not many states restrict airport carry.

While government operated, most airports are set up as ordinary businesses and are therefore technically private property. A business unambiguously has the right to ban anything at all under the “we refuse service and that means that you either leave or become a trespasser” provision of every municipal code in the Union.
It’s easier to ordain no guns in an airport than in the Statehouse.

Not to mention a former Detroit Police chief who carried a STOLEN gun through an airport. I would imagine a Dallas judge will just give her a small fine, and send her on her way.
The law is that guns are not allowed in “secure areas” and not simply on the airport or even inside the terminal. Only secure areas. I’d have to look to see if Texas has a state law that puts airports or airport terminal building s off limits.

Texas laws are written in the liberal enclave of Austin. More than 60% of Travis County where Austin is and the laws are written voted for Obama. Texas is red, but it’s capital city is quite blue and that’s going to ooze its way into our state laws.
Most of the major cities in Texas are blue unfortunately. A very small section of Dallas where I live is Red. Another problem in Texas is that many republicsn voters are notorious for voting in RINOs. As long as they’re wearing a red badge right.
I grew up in Texas (Houston), and it’s true the cities tend blue, that’s where more blacks, latinos, and liberal whites live, but by any measure Texas is a right-wing paradise. Shitty schools, shitty, overpriced private healthcare, minimal unions (“Right to Work”), incredible pollution along the coast from refineries. I think Houston now has the worst air quality of any city in the country.
I grew up among old-school Texas liberals (including my wwII vet grandfather), all of whom had guns for hunting and self defense. Guns were not a political issue. They cared (and still do) about thinks like basic workplace fairness, decent health care, and decent schools.
Texas is way off the tracks.

The worst thing about purse carry is that sometimes a lady forgets that she is carrying. This actually happens quite a lot. People get so comfortable carrying that they forget that other people go into full ballistic panic mode when they see a gun.
That is irresponsible and a horrible excuse. Anyone who casually forgets that they are carrying a dangerous weapons does not deserve to carry. Period. Yes there is a lot of rebate between Right and Responsibility but this is one occasion where YOUR Responsibility trumps Your Right.
Your feeling strongly about it does not trump anyone’s right to carry.

I’m not excusing it. I’m simply saying it happens. I have came very close to carrying my Leatherman (R) tool through security multiple times. Very close. I carry it everyday and forget that some people will freak out about such a natural thing.
Correct! I have a leatherman tool plus a large hunting knife. I always carry them. Before 9/11 I went to get on a plane and these were both found. I was shocked at people’s reaction to them, because I have always carried them: wallet, check; pen, check; hair comb, check; large folding hunting knife, check; multi-tool, check.
I had to go to a UPS at the airport, put them in a box and ship them to myself.
Oddly enough, I’ve carried into the Atlanta airport at least four or five times. Only to baggage claim to pick up my sister or my fiance (sp? wife to be). It’s really nice, honestly, to not have to leave my piece in the truck.
Well I for one feel that I can sleep well tonight knowing Mrs. Uncle Ted has been arrested.

A similar thing happened to Jerry Lewis at McCarron Airport in Las Vegas. Result? No fine, no jail, loss of a nicely engraved gun.
I’m sure that the gun will turn up eventually at an estate auction of a TSA agent’s property.

Not following private rules can justify expulsion, not arrest. If you tell a man he can’t carry in your house, and he does it anyway, you can call the police to remove him from your house if he doesn’t leave of his own accord. You can’t have him arrested, however, except possibly for the small misdemeanor of trespassing.

Remind me why the Right likes Ted Nugent? Is it his musical genius? “Cat Scratch Fever” was clearly the most important musical composition of the 20th Century, but is this enough? Is it his commitment to Family Values? Only two of the eight children (five out of wedlock) he’s officially fathered were put up for adoption. That’s “personal responsibility” that few of us can match.
In fairness, he did embrace those adopted-out kids later. But really, if you want a Conservative Hero, you may want to keep looking.
All of the Anti’s who think US gun laws are too lax should try navigating them sometime. Where can I not take my gun? Where can I go shooting? What’s considered brandishing? If my concealed weapon is accidentally exposed, am I guilty of illegal open carry? I live just across the state line from a big city, can I buy a gun at one of the stores there? etc….
