Brian Sandoval on Thursday vetoed the Democratic state legislature’s universal background checks bill,” washingtonpost.com reports in its own ass-backwards way. “Senate Bill 221, while laudable in its efforts to strengthen reporting requirements concerning mentally ill persons, imposes unreasonable burdens and harsh penalties upon law-abiding Nevadans, while doing little to prevent criminals from unlawfully obtaining firearms,” Sandoval said in his veto statement. Once again, we see that there are two America’s: anti-gun slave states (e.g., New York) where civilian disarmament found fertile ground and free states where conservative values still hold sway, if only just (e.g., Nevada). While Sandoval’s veto strikes a blow for freedom, Yeats got it right: things fall apart. The center will not hold. Just sayin’ . . .
One wouldn’t expect the legislature of a “free State” to pass such a bill to begin with. A governor’s veto is a rather thin foundation for durable gun rights.
All “free states” are in jeopardy at one level or another as long as grabbers, especially $Bloomberg$ and his organizations, exist.
This will be a long effort, because the grabbers aren’t going anywhere, and to long as they strive to “educate”, or rather brainwash Americans in a coordinated attempt to dispirit, disarm and disenfranchise large portions of the American population and to weaken our founding principles through what is best understood as psychological warfare, we are all at risk, wherever we reside, free state or otherwise.

My local Senator, Pete Goicoechea was one of the nay votes, now if we could just get Las Vegas to secede, hmmmm.
And yet, even with the party lineup the way it is the bill had been stalled for most of the legislative session, until Bloomberg started lobbying in the State. Somebody in the Nevada legislature better pay a price at the polls in 2014 or this bill will come back big time.

Especially people who have been unjustly demonized, scapegoated, restricted and soon criminalized for believing in and exercising their protected freedoms by arrogant “educated” elitists who consider themselves the “only” authority on how things should be and apply deceitful improper methods to achieve their ends.
In America, people who have been trampled in this manner develop a burning commitment to exact justice from those who have unfairly wronged them.
This is a “win” of sorts, but only sort of like you’re in a knife fight with someone who has been trying to take your head off, suddenly realizes it was harder than he thought, and announces (with hands up in non-threatening gesture, but still holding the knife) “Wow … OK … OK … just let me catch my breath”.
We didn’t “win” much, and we should be pressing the advantage to make actual gains … but please, PLEASE PEOPLE … DO NOT TURN YOUR BACKS!

A welcome bit of good news. I met Gov. Sandoval when he was running for Attorney General of Nevada and he did a campaign tour through the rural part of the state. Nice guy. Seemed to “get it” generally.
That being said, don’t underestimate the political machine in Vegas.

Statewide elections are controlled by Clark county mainly, with some help from Washoe county. Remember, this is the state that brings you harry “pinkie” reid and voted twice for our dear leader, the fascist obama. Sandovol is at best a RINO – most of his policies seem to lean left. It’s nice he seeks to protect gun owners rights, but otherwise he is not a conservative espousing conservative values.
Conservative or liberal, it’s refreshing to see a politician who seeks the counsel of his consituents and acts upon them rather than does what the party tells him.
The growth of southern Nevada (Vegas, Clark County) has been fueled for years by the move of California residents and those fleeing the colder states. With these came a LARGE body of liberal democrats wanting to ‘change things’ so they could screw things up here like where they came from (brilliance in motion…) Our Senate/Legislature, has, as a result, crept towards a democratic majority, which is exactly how this bill was passed.
With the Gov’s veto they now have to get a 2/3s vote to pass it, and, barring some other tragedy to guilt our conservative lawmakers, that is not going to happen.
Of course, Bloomberg is already making squawking noises about how our Gov support criminals, etc, etc., dead children, etc., etc., fear my money, etc., etc., not listening to the residents of Nevada, blah.

Coming from a state that used to have a high percentage of conservatives he used to be much more moderate on certain issues, but he has completely and utterly lost his mind since Obama came into office.

A lot of folks around here reported having a hard time voting for Sharon Angle, (1st hand from friends) as the machines kept defaulting to Reid.

Two years from now these idiots will still be touting that 90% number and anytime a gun control bill fails they will claim it is a slap in the face to victims of sandy hook. Yeah, 26 people were murdered 20 of which were children, heard it a million times and will probably hear about it a million or more times. I’m very far from conservative…but I do believe in Roe vs Wade whilst still being very pro gun….more and more people I know are becoming Libertarian…that is where I think the Republican party needs to go.

Here is one problem I have. It doesn’t matter what the people want if it goes against the constitution. That is why it is difficult to create new amendments so the people can’t screw themselves. The people can be wrong, very wrong. Even if 90% of Americans wanted background checks (we already have them duh!). The right thing that our lawmakers

I sit in disbelief when I hear someone who is supposed to represent us, and uphold the constitution have issues with upholding the constitution.I had a discussion with some co workers today and I was explaining how a law might sound good if we knew that nobody would abuse it. What happens is that people WILL abuse laws and use them against good people. The UNSAFE act is one example. That is why we have a document that limits the power of the federal government. It is the guide that our elected officials should know by heart and execute their duties by.
I was surprised that this bill passed in the legislature, even by such razor-thin margins, after the Chiefs and Sheriff’s Association came out against it. I think that the Association’s dissent gave Sandoval all the cover he needed to dump this stupid proposal.
