Senate Resolution 22, sponsored by Sen. Lana Theis, R-Brighton, seeks to “preserve the Second Amendment” by stating that the state Senate would oppose federal laws that “infringe on the right to bear arms.”

The resolution passed along partisan lines, 20-15, with Democrats uproariously opposing it. Sen. Erika Geiss, D-Taylor, called it “insurrectionist.”

“This resolution is four pages of dark, insurrection-laden language and militia support that challenges the laws of this land,” she said on the Senate floor. “It’s a resolution that says that if we don’t like the laws, we’ll meet you at the Michigan border with our guns. It’s incredible how fast you’ll do anything to protect your guns.”

Geiss continued by saying since armed protesters packed into the Michigan State Capitol on April 30, the Senate hasn’t done anything to improve security measures.

“We had rioters in this space up there,” she said, pointing to the upper deck overlooking the Senate floor, “hovering over with with firearms, literally telling us, ‘we’re here to make sure you vote right.’ On April 30, 2020, a day that has gone down in international infamy. Nothing, nothing meaningful was done to address that.”

  1. The danger in constantly treating your political opponents as “insurrectionists” is that eventually they will prove you right.

    • Did anything happen in DC on March 4th, or was it a bunch of rumblings on some obscure online forums?

      • A bunch of people who are supposed to be good at knowing what’s going on exposed themselves as gullible nitwits who should not be relied on for advice by anyone in a position of authority.

    • “Sen. Erika Geiss, D-Taylor, called it “insurrectionist.” She said “Insurrectionist” as through that were a bad thing. According to Merriam-Webster, “insurrection” is the “act of revolting against civil authority or an established government.” Guess the First American was consideed a bad “insurrection.”??
“Insurrection” my a$$. Call it what it is……a Patriots Really, Really Pissed Off, Fed Up, Had Enough, Takin’ No More Peaceful Demonstration.
In Thomas Jefferson’s letter of 1787 to William Stephens Smith, the son-in-law of John Adams, postulates on the newly drafted Constitution and what it will mean. One of his statements succinctly deals with our situation today, and I quote: “What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.!” Our Founding Fathers dealt with a plethora of issues, and provided guidance accordingly; hoping it would never come to this!

  2. I would like to think that intelligence would out live stupidity and mental illness, but stupidly breeds faster. We are doomed.

  3. All civil rights are by nature insurrectionist to the regime. That’s why the insurrectionist founding fathers put protections for them in the Constitution. To make it difficult for the regime to infringe on them.

    • Also, if a law is passed and enacted by the regime, how can it be insurrectionist?

      • +1 ….. This is the system readjusting back to comport with traditional human systems and behavior. The term “American exceptionalism” exists for a reason. If we don’t fight to be exceptional, then we are just like everybody else in the world and will be RULED just like everybody else in the world.

        • American exceptionalism is xenophobic. I see America as EQUAL to Mexico. You’re welcome.

        • I see America as EQUAL to Mexico.

That would be a much easier “sell” if there were thousands of Americans at the border wearing Obrador T-shirts, demanding to be allowed entry into Mexico…

  4. So much hyperbole from Geiss.

I believe the Senator and her colleagues need to attend remedial history and Constitution classes. Apparently her past instruction failed to address that it is the People who control Government and not a few wannabe tyrants.

The true insurrectionists are those who continue to degrade our rights, refuse to move forward to embrace the dream of all men are created equal and of a society of free people beholden to keeping the government in check.

    • As long as there is the constant push for women’s and pro racist (black – yea, I said it) “rights” in a country that has both – and then some – throughout all tiers of it’s society, we will never be equal and we will always be controlled. Even if a transgender cuban was “voted” into office, we’d still be living in perpetual 1800, or anytime before it. It’s all about feelings and virtue signaling. Easier to dwell on the past than it is to move forward, and it’s acceptable to shame others for not accepting their historical flaws. History is now woke – with it’s eyes wide shut.

  5. In case anyone missed it, the ultimate goal of the left is to eliminate that pesky bill of rights thingy!!

    • That’s why John Brennan took his oath of office on the 1787 version of the Constitution, the “Bill of Rights” aka the 1st 10 Amendments were not added til 1791…

      • Ironic. I remember the Democrats being the party of the bill of rights back in the 70s and 80s. Freedom of speech, freedom of (from) religion, protection against unreasonable search by the big bad government.

Now that it helps support their government, they are against the bill of rights.

As the saying goes, if it weren’t for double standards, the Democrats would have no standards at all.

  6. The long soft insurrection of the anti-liberty left is quickly becoming very hard. If they keep pushing more and more ordinary citizens into a corner, they will find not a insurrection in their hands, but a restoration of the rule of the supreme law of the land, which means rights ARE the law. And they are likely to stand trial for treason.

Deliberately trying to black ball, minimize, demean, ostracized or otherwise outlaw peaceable citizens and their inalienable rights is not the act of a patriot. Just the opposite.

  7. She is mad the people want to protect their guns before they protect the capital. Typical elitist , entitled politician she wants her spaces protected BEFORE the people she serves. Disgusting.

  8. Visit your Capitol building? INSURRECTION… Exercise your civil rights? INSURRECTION… Question authority? INSURRECTION… Demand action from your “civil servants”? INSURRECTION… Burn cities, murder cops, loot businesses, impede the flow of NORMAL day to day activities for MONTHS, assault Federal buildings, set churches on fire, destroy public property and shut down major metropolitan areas for weeks? Mostly PEACEFUL demonstrators exercising THEIR Constitutional rights… Everyone needs to do two things (1) change your voter registration to “D”… (B) get a BLM t-shirt (or just get a black T and paint BLM and “ACAB” on it)… Then you can “mostly” peacefully protest ALMOST anywhere your heart desires…

  9. Twisted thinking is in the nature of the democRat Party and to be expected from the party that owns the legacy of slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, the KKK, lynching, Eugenics, Gun Control and other race based atrocities.

Until gun owning chatterboxes get fed up with wearing the race card that they have allowed to be hung around their necks by those with an agenda that is rooted in racism and genocide this disgusting merry-go-round keeps spinning.

If you want to destroy Gun Control perverts then first define their sick racist and nazi based gun control agenda. To ask the average “Gun Owner” to define Gun Control is like asking a 6 year old to define brain surgery. Most Gun Owner replies actually cater to Gun Control.

Far too many Gun Owners must have the placid mindset of mitch mcconnell and mitt romney. It would be a cold day in hell before those two stood on the floor of congress and properly defined Gun Control, Afraid to call out and hold the democRat Party liable for their democRat Party Race Based Atrocities, Afraid to hold the democRat Party liable for Monetary Reparations, etc. Instead ol’ mitch and mitt sit still while the democRat Party poops all over the US Constitution and The Party of Lincoln.

Bottom line…The long, long racist history of the democRat Party is so despicable it is very safe to say, “A Black American belonging to the democRat Party makes as much sense as a Jew belonging to the nazi party.”

    • You are a broken fucking record. It’s okay deb deb. Everyone knows you aren’t an evil racist.

  10. This same twit would have no problem voting to have the state of Michigan ignore and not enforce immigration laws. If they wanted to make it a sanctuary state, she would be right there.

    • Illegal immigration is the true insurrection. Or, more accurately, invasion. But the Dems are fully in support of that.

    • What a maroon(oh wait that’s raciss ). Look it up…
It would appear that the word itself has been afforded a number of usages including a “raciss connotation” as well as a descriptive for a certain group (or groups) of people in the U.S…. I guess you would have to consider the context in which it is used which in the case of your statement appears to NOT be racist but rather a variant of the word “moron” implying the person in question is a “double moron” with which I totally agree.

Where does the phrase ” what a maroon ” come from?
Might have been derived from moron: adding an extra letter “o” to moron meaning double-moron, thus a maroon. Usually preceded by the words “what a”.. Maroon Term made famous by Bugs Bunny meaning a pushover, or one easily fooled. A dope, fool, idiot, or nincompoop.

      https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=maroon&page=2
This is a racial slur used to refer to black slaves abandoned(“marooned”) by slave ships on islands on the way to their destination when they were found to be in some way inferior and not worthy.

      Maroons – Wikipedia
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maroon_(people)
Maroons are descendants of Africans in the Americas who formed settlements away from slavery. They often mixed with indigenous peoples, eventually evolving into separate creole cultures such as the Garifuna and the Mascogos.

      https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/maroon
Maroon definition is – a dark red.

Maroon is a dark brownish red or dark reddish color that takes its name from the French word marron, or chestnut. “Marron” is also one of the French translations for “brown”.
According to multiple dictionaries, there are variabilities in defining the color maroon. The Cambridge English Dictionary defines maroon as a dark reddish-purple color while its “American Dictionary” section defines maroon as dark brown-red.

      • Apparently we need to “CANCEL” Bugs Bunny… AND I believe Roger Rabbit used the phrase as well… Hmmmmm, are ALL cartoon rabbit caricatures “raciss”?

        • No, not all…. but I learned recently that Dr. Suess is, and is in the process of being cancel-cultured, or is it culture- cancelled?
Hard to keep track of the latest whitey is raciss shaming trends…

        • “Hard to keep track…”

Go back and listen to Obama’s 2009 inauguration speech. About the only thing he was really serious about was “remaking” America. And right before the 2008 election he said, “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.” The problem was Obama wanted to be reelected in 2012, so he could only be so radical. Joe Biden doesn’t worry about being reelected. Putting extensive voter fraud aside, Joe knows he won’t be running in 2024. The puppeteers controlling Joe are all in on whatever it takes to finally complete Obama’s vision.

Book burning is back in fashion. When those books are the books that Liberals and the Left don’t like. And as far as I’m concerned Libertarians are not far behind. Because taking a Bible onto public school property was made a crime. So book burning in the United States has been going on for a long time now. It seems a lot of people were really comfortable when the Bible was banned.

Now they are coming after “your” favorite books.

  11. “The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter. ’tis the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”
    –Mark Twain

    Bizarro is the right word.

    • Ralph – How long has it been since JWM disappeared on us?

      I hope he’s OK…

      • Well, he did say he was going to leave for hating the new website design… Seems to me he’d be likely to follow through. I do wish he was still here, though. He was one of the best.

      • 24 days.

His last comment [that I know of] is below, along with the time stamp.

I surmise that like some others, he found the new format distasteful and left for other websites.

DZ, you’ve returned to the format that us despised by all. I’ll be looking for another site to hang out at.

        • Well, gotta give him credit for making good on that promise.

          ATTN : Dan Z –

The new format simply isn’t cutting it. TTAG is unlike nearly every other gun blog. What makes TTAG spcial is the comment section, and the discussions that evolve from it.

There is no way now to easily follow those discussions with the new ‘random’ format.

TTAG *must* provide an alternate way (a link, perhaps?) to view the articles IN THE ORDER THEY WERE PUBLISHED, so those discussions don’t get needlessly interrupted…

  12. The Second Amendment precisely protects the right of “the people” to engage in insurrection against the tyranny of a rogue central government. The Constitution itself appears not to address attempts to “overthrow the government” (hence the need for the Second Amendment). It was 1807 (16yrs after ratification of the Constitution). before rebellion/insurrection that the central government created federal law punishing “insurrection” (Title 10 of U.S. Code, §§ 251-254). Thus, a stark contradiction between an enumerated right, and mere legislation.

The nation was founded on insurrection, then “we the people”, through elected representatives, sought to eliminate insurrection as a means of defeating tyranny.

    • “The Second Amendment precisely protects the right of “the people” to engage in insurrection“

I don’t think the second amendment grants the right to engage in an insurrection, it just grants the right to keep and bear arms to the people, modified by the preamble requiring “a well regulated militia”.

The Constitution specifically forbids conducting war on the United States:

“Article III, Section 3, Clause 1: Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.“

For instance, attacking the United States Capitol, beating police officers with poles and using chemical agents to disrupt a joint session of Congress, calling for the vice president to be hung, would constitute war against the United States.

The United States Constitution specifically forbids this conduct, branding it as treason.

      • calling for the vice president to be hung, would constitute war against the United States.

Actually “CALLING” for the VP to be hung would constitute “FREE SPEACH” the ACT of hanging the VP would be MURDER… Killing the Vice President or the POTUS is NOT an act of war in anyone’s version of the Constitution… (acts by Foreign governments excluded)

        • You are wrong on two points.

Number one, smashing your way into a restricted area, assaulting police officers who get in your way, while announcing your intention to hang the vice president is indeed an act of war.
Agents of an organized opposition, whipped into a frenzy by their charismatic leader, violently assaulting the process of the United States government is the very definition of an act of war.

Second, more specifically, making a threat against the life of the vice president is a federal felony:

“18 U.S. Code § 871 – Threats against President and successors to the Presidency
          U.S. Code

          (a) Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.“

          War
          noun
a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state.

        • making a threat against the life of the vice president is a federal felony:
A federal felony is a long way from an “ACT OF WAR” You ,in your surprisingly simple way, have just affirmed what I said… Killing a POTUS or VP is “MURDER” not and ACT of WAR… Must have got started on that bottle early… Anyway, I’m not going to get dragged into a childish back and forth with you so carry on with your dumb shit…. And OBTW your comparison of Fox and Lou Dobbs with a joke about Bugs Bunny was a real hoot… Done.. Besides it’s Bike Week and my new Tri Glide is calling…

        • You claimed shouting “hang Mike Pence” was just an act of “FREE SPEACH”, whatever “speach” is…

I proved you wrong by posting the actual federal statute making it a felony.

I also showed the difference between an individual attacking a protected person and an organized effort to disrupt the process of government and assassinate an “officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States”.

Perhaps you missed the definition of war:

          “War
          noun
a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state.”

Here the pertinent part would be:

“different groups within a nation or state“

I hope this clarifies the nature of war for you, glad I could help.

  13. This isn’t anything new. In the past, they just called everything racist that they don’t agree with. Dems know they never have to actually debate ideas since the corrupt media pushes their preferred narratives for them. Now it’s white supremacist, terrorist, insurrectionist, etc.

Try debating illegal immigration with them (I have). They’ll conflate legal immigration with illegal immigration because they can’t tell the difference between actual facts and all of the propaganda out there. After you point that out, they resort to talking points like either quoting the Statue of Liberty poem or just calling it xenophobic.

  14. “…it’s just one more way of reducing your liberty, and reminding you that they can fuck with you anytime they want… as long as you put up with it… as long as you put up with it; which means of course anytime they want, cause that’s what Americans do now, they’re always willing to trade away a little of their freedom in exchange for the feeling, the illusion of security.”

    • Something you posted last year pretty much sums up the question. “When it comes to a Civil Right. Neither public opinion nor the risk presented by that civil Right. Is a moral or ethical reason to curtail the Right itself”. strych9
If I must be labeled an Insurrectionist. I wear that moniker with the same pride the Founding Patriots did 246 years ago when so labeled by the Tyrant King George III. If I must choose. I choose Courageous Sacrifice that my children and their children’s children will know the meaning of Freedom and Liberty. Not the Complacent Cowardice that will ensure the Boot of Tyranny will Stand Upon their hopes and dreams. We are but 45 days from the most important day in the history of the 2nd Amendment and possibly the most important day in the history of Our Nation. A day when ordinary citizens not knowing the outcome risked all they had including their lives. To Stand and Say No We Will Not Allow Tyranny to Take Our Arms. “We the People” are once again facing Tyranny that wishes to Do The Same. It matters not the way they choose to do so. By Legislation, Courts Edict or Force the Intent remains the same. TYRANNY… History will show whether “We the People” chose Courageous Sacrifice or Complacent Cowardice, but more than that it will show whether Our Descendant lived in Freedom or Suffered under Tyranny. Keep Your Powder Dry.

  15. If the truth be told it is the democrats themselves that are the true insurrectionists. And these democrat insurrectionists should be dealt with as such ,by We The People, the true controllers of America’s government.
These democrats have tossed the US Constitution and Bill of Rights out the window, and thus have become the actual traitors of and to our nation. This isn’t going to end well,IMO.

  16. I remember when the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles were referred to by the Left as an “insurrection”. This is just a form of sloganeering. It just shows the Left is really weak at making arguments.

The Deacons for Defense and Justice and the veterans in Athens Tennessee were real insurrectionists. And they carried the guns and shot tyrants to prove it.

  17. “We had rioters in this space up there,” she said, pointing to the upper deck overlooking the Senate floor,

Seems to me for a group to be rioters they would have to be doing something more than sitting in a legislative gallery.

  18. My dear Senator, if you’re not willing to fight to keep your weapons, how would you propose to fight for anything else whatsoever?

  19. I don’t support insurrection in the U.S. simply because there are more effective ways to induce change.

But don’t mistake my above statement to suggest that I tolerate abuse of Constitutional rights either.

  20. Sen. Erika Geiss sounds like the leftist, piece of shit politician that Moron69er would, wholeheartedly, endorse.

  21. The left is great at changing the meaning of words and reality. That is where we are, if you dont like the story just make it up. Btw i don’t care for new format, more difficult to use.

  22. I talked to a man who grew up in Poland under communist rule. He said it’s frightening how the US (i.e. Democrats) is approaching the old commie ways he used to lived under in Poland. I’d consider moving to Poland but don’t like the idea of living in between Germany and Russia.

  23. “Our Founding Fathers dealt with a plethora of issues, and provided guidance accordingly; hoping it would never come to this!”

Indeed. And left us this: “A republic, if you can keep it.”

  24. BLM/Antifa attacked the federal courthouse in Portland during the day. It was almost as if they heard Merrick Garland during his confirmation hearing that if they attacked at night he wouldn’t consider it domestic terrorism but if it interrupted processes during the day that would qualify. Paging Merrick Garland..does this qualify yet?

What exactly IS considered an Insurrection? Is attacking a Federal Courthouse NOT an attack on the Federal Government? Antifa has assaulted the Federal Courthouse in Portland almost daily since May 2020 and even attempted to burn it down, they have attacked Federal Officers (severely) injuring several… Is that not an “Insurrection”? How many have been arrested (or even charged) in those attacks? Funny how that Left/Right thing works… I guess if we ALL dressed in black hoodies w/masks and claimed to be BLM/Antifa/Democratic Socialists/Communists etc we could do whatever we want without fear of repercussion…
