According to his bio-blurb, politico, Alex Brant-Zawadzki is a “journalist and politico [who] currently studies public affairs at the Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good. He loves Haagen-Dazs and justice.” And just as Haagen-Dazs is a made-up word created to convey Scandinavian provenance, Brant-Zawadski’s has ginned-up some less-than-credible gun-related mockrage for HuffPo. “On August 26 the Pima County Republican Party sent out its regular online newsletter [image above]. For just $10, readers can purchase a raffle ticket (out of 125 offered) for a chance to win a brand new handgun. Not just any handgun, but a Glock 23.” And that’s bad because it’s “the same type of gun used in the attempted assassination of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.” Just in case you missed that . . .

Arizona Republicans surely know just how effective this particular brand of gun can be. After all, it was only eight months ago that Jared Lee Loughner used a Glock 19 in Tucson – the seat of Pima County – to shoot Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in the head. Giffords survived, but six other people, including a nine year old girl and a federal judge, were killed in the same shooting.

The raffle gun comes preloaded with adjustable grips, a case, and three 12-round magazines. Glock USA describes the model as “a slightly reduced size of a full-size handgun for easier concealment but still retains the performance on the level of a serious big bore.”

Let’s see… with 125 tickets, at $10 a ticket, the PCRP could pull in a cool $1,250 – minus whatever their souls are worth, of course.

That’s a bit . . . subtle. Yeah? Well subtle this.

“Many of us know Gabby and we’re all praying for her continued recovery,” PCRP vice chairman Mike Shaw told FoxNews.com. “The whole thing was horrible and that adds a lot of sensitivity to the seat.”

Speaking of sensitivity – you have no idea how sensitive the trigger is on this sweet baby we’re raffling! All the easier to fire those 36 bullets you’ll get in those three magazines. Loughner only got off 32 shots. Think you can do better? Then give us your money.

Never mind ice cream; that’s COLD. And this from the side of political spectrum that took Sarah Palin to task for using a firearms metaphor on her Facebook page. Wait! A new flavor! Hypocrisy and hyperbole. Pass.

  1. Classic nutball “demonize the tool, not the man” mentality.”

Quick, someone find out the make and model of the car Loughner’s used to get to the scene of his rampage so we can demonize that!

Mitsubishi has killed more Americans than Glock could ever hope to, go bleat at them.

  2. Hey look, It’s the same type of gun that has saved the lives and protected millions of people all over the world!

    • Hey, look!

That’s the same pistol that seemingly half of the police in the U.S.A. are issued!

Maybe we ought to ban the police?

      • After them repeatedly saying in the comments on that post that “The brand is what matters”, they all say “It doesn’t matter what the police carry” – they can’t make up their mind on if the brand matters or not.

  3. same gun carried by police in many departments. Not sure if that means it is good or if it means should be labeled an extremely dangerous gun

  4. Is it the assault pistol version with the high capacity clips? I might need to buy one of those raffle tickets.

  5. If you go read another version of the article at RawStory, and then skip down to the comments, the most used word to describe the situation is “inappropriate”, followed immediately by “insensitive”.

Honestly, even after consulting dictionary.com, I fail to understand how either word at all applies to the situation.

    • Both words apply to the words penned by the supposed ‘journalist’ who wrote the hatchet job quoted by this blog post.

  6. Reading the comments on that site is so depressing. These people have NO CLUE what they’re talking about. The best comment involved a guy claiming to be a gun owner, but with no knowledge of gun laws, saying that because it’s a raffle, this could be given to a kid with no background check.

  7. certainly like your web site but you have to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling issues and I in finding it very bothersome to inform the reality on the other hand I will surely come back again.

  8. Heya i’m for the first time here. I found this board and I to find It really helpful & it helped me out a lot. I am hoping to provide something again and aid others like you aided me.
