Angstadt Arms has a new AR-9 lower designed to work with a wide range of magazines. It features interchangeable magazine wells to use magazines from a number of pistol makers as well as different calibers.

So if you have, say, GLOCK 33-round magazines along with 30-rounders for an MP5 that you’d like to be able to use in a pistol caliber carbine format, the new AXL-9 lower lets you swap out mag wells to accept them.

Here’s Angstadt’s press release . . .

We understand your choice of pistol magazines can be fluid and non-binary. One day you may identify with Sig Sauer, while the next day you might feel more like a GLOCK or maybe even a CZ Scorpion. And sure, you’re shooting 9mm now, but in the future, you may want to go big with 10mm. Whatever your magazine pronouns, the AXL-9TM has you covered.

No longer will you be locked into a single platform. Thanks to interchangeable magazine wells, the AXL-9TM receiver allows you to switch between magazine types and even calibers. And best of all it’s compatible with all mil-spec and AR9 components allowing you to build and rebuild a pistol caliber as unique as yourself.

The AXL-9TM offers endless possibilities with the convenience of a single serialized lower receiver.

Key Design Features:

      • 7075-T6 billet aluminum lower receiver with dovetail mating feature
      • Interchangeable magazine wells are compatible with a wide range of magazines, including GLOCK, Sig Sauer, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory, Ruger, CZ, MP5 and Colt (with more to come)
      • Magazine wells will be available in various calibers including 9mm, 40S&W, 45ACP and 10mm
      • Supports both straight blowback and roller delayed AR9 systems
      • Designed to accommodate all standard mil-spec and AR9 components

The highly anticipated AXL-9TM lower receiver is set to be available in early 2024. Stay tuned for the announcement of the official MSRP, coming soon.

  1. Atleast it comes with a full trigger guard. It’s also nice to see that it comes in more than just 9mm.

  2. “We understand your choice of pistol magazines can be fluid and non-binary.”

Points for exploiting knee-jerk social controversy for clever marketing… 😉

  3. I’m curious about the price. MWG used to offer this exact combination (mostly in rifle calibers), but the trigger modules and magwell modules (each half of a $50 AR lower) were $275 apiece – long before Bidenflation!

I can see the attraction if you lived in a country that limits the number of rifle licenses (and allows ARs, and counts the lower as the registered part), but the math never made sense to me outside that very narrow market.

  4. 45acp AR? Yes please.
Finally an AR shooting 45 Super to match my HK Mark 23 (shooting 45 Super). This has been on my wish list for a while.
Subsonic 45 Super hits like subsonic 300 Blackout.

      • Likely not due to shape, surface area, and composition at that velocity but load a few lightweight copper solids of various types and see what happens. I know 10mm out of 4.5 inches or more has done well with standard 3a kevlar and has had mixed results with 3a uhmwpe depending on manufacturer.

    • …If they’re both throwing ~200-something grain slugs at not-quite supersonic speeds, yeah, similar performance is what you should expect.

      • Ballistically or kinetically?

The profiles of .45 ACP and .300 BLK are very different, in that the Blackout would likely pierce more efficiently than the .45 at same velocity. For that reason alone, the BLK may be the superior choice.

  5. That looks a little like the AR-9 lower I milled, the angles, except my mag well is integrated and for Glock mags.

  6. Nice idea for some but all of mine are dedicated caliber builds so it’s no swapping this and that. I recommend Angstadt AR-15 BCGs because quality is very good and a fair price can be found.
On the other hand America is an accident waiting to happen and that is all thanks to each and every sackofsht who put biden/harris in the Whitehouse.

  7. When poured with a CMMG RDB bolt and barrel, my Aero lower takes standard sized Magpul mags with 9mm inserts.
