An Open Letter to Jason Post of The Mayors Against Illegal Guns

Dear Mr. Post,

I am writing to request a reply to a simple question: has Wal-Mart contributed any money to the Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) and/or that organization’s sub-group, The Responsible Firearms Partnership (RFP)? According to your press release of April 14, 2008, Wal-Mart adheres to the RFP’s 10-point voluntary code. I would like to know if there is a financial aspect to this relationship. I would also like to know which other firearms retailers belong to the RFP, and whether or not they contribute to MAIG or RFP. But let’s start with Wal-Mart. Has Wal-Mart donated, contributed or otherwise transferred any money to MAIG or RFP? If you could clarify this matter via the phone number left with your staff on numerous occasions or email me at [email protected], I would be most appreciative.

  1. I received this reply.

    Dear Mr. Farago –
The answer to your question is no.
    Thanks for your patience.
    Take care,

Mr. Post's delay has lead us to investigate the financing behind MAIG. We'll have some interesting information tomorrow.
