The Second Amendment’s idiosyncratic and anachronistic focus on militias and “arms” degrades the concept of self-defense. The right to safeguard one’s life should not be conflated with or reduced to the right to use a weapon, especially a weapon that is so much more likely to inflict injury and death than to avoid it. Far better would be an amendment that guarantees a meaningful right to bodily autonomy and obligates the government to implement reasonable measures to protect public health and safety:

        Also what constitutes reasonable measures? I mean look at the multiple cases where the supreme court says that the government can just basically let someone kill you via their negligence because they don’t have to protect individuals.

      • The Bill of Rights was deliberately about listing the things government may NOT do, resulting in a list of commands which any “C” average eighth grader can easily understand. So this self-important doofus thinks we should rewrite it so that it takes 20 years of education beyond unquestioning acceptance of “critical race theory” and “1619 project” before you could have a clue WTF it’s talking about. Fortunately, though I doubt she understands it, the way to put this in place is either to pass an Amendment replacing Amendments 1 and 2, or to go to the streets and fight to kill and die to overthrow the current government, neither of which I’d imagine she intends to participate in.

        Eventually the laws were codified to match the new reality.

    • They couldn’t get the ERA Equal Rights Amendment passed after 27 years (1972-2019) of trying. Changing the Constitution is a long and arduous process. Fortunately the Founding Patriots set the Republic up that way.

        The Equal Rights Amendment did not pass because the American people did not want it passed. It was a decision about what kind of nation we wished to be, and I think it was decided correctly.     • I also wonder at the rate of stillbirths and babies dying before 1 year of age because of maternal drug use. Many drug using pregnant women will not go for prenatal health checkups because they are scared they will be forced to quit – our family is involved in fostering a baby from a mother like that – the baby will be fine, but he is not fat and healthy as he should be.

They have never supported the right to peaceful assembly. They have never supported the right to free speech. And they have never supported the right to keep and bear ARMS.

    They just want to the government to provide you with great sex, (free abortions, free sex change operations, men in the woman’s bathroom, free STD treatment) and free drugs, (free crystal meth, free pot, etc.), and no person accountability. There’s a concept for it, its called being forced to trade individual liberty for government provided security when the government says “the constitution says…so the people must abide by …” instead of the people being able to say ” ’cause the constitution says so the government must abide by …”.   38. The best way to fix this problem is to completely defund federal education. It was President Eisenhower who said in his final address to the nation, the dangers of the Education Industrial Complex. End the corruption of the education system in the United States when its flooded with Federal money. But especially the federal money that goes to colleges and universities. These schools especially should lose all of their federal funds.

    College education should be defunded. If you want a college education you can either pay for it out of your own pocket. Or you can take your chances and join the military.
    Assuming you survive you can use your G.I. bill.

It is the removal of our freedom to choose for ourselves and to be instructed by you Leftists as to how we should live. Socialized medicine is a method of control of the populace.
