Overall, one in 50 murders is ruled justified — but when the killer is white and the victim is a black man, the figure climbs to one in six. Handgun killings with a white shooter and a black male victim exhibit an even more dramatic bias: one in four is found justified.
Research has found that Stand Your Ground measures intensify this racial disparity, and those laws are seeing a resurgence in Republican-dominated states.

How did “killings that are deemed justifiable” become “murders ruled justified”? A justified homicide isn’t murder. Anyone who suggests otherwise has an anti-gun axe to grind.
Anyway, here’s my theory explaining this “racial disparity”: that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
More black men/women pose an imminent credible threat of grievous bodily harm or death to a white man/woman than the other way around. Also worth noting: most whites justifiably shoot whites, and most blacks justifiably shoot blacks.
I’m sure that’s racist too, somehow.
Meanwhile, please keep in mind that all Americans have a natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms, regardless of their race, creed, color or sexual orientation. Regardless of what someone else does or doesn’t do with their gun.
OK…and by the numbers…how many homicides…total and percentage…are white on black…white on white…black on white?
What are the circumstances involved?
If the black guy is an attacker/home invader/etc then it will probably be ruled OK.
There are many variables to consider…including how many violent crimes are done .
Homicide is not just murder…it can be justified self-defense…
Look at who does what …in what numbers and percentages…just sayin’…
Here’s another one: how many of those “whites” who shot a black man were also Hispanics? Yup. Hispanic is an ethnicity, not a race – Hispanics are categorized as white by the .gov.
Makes no difference to the “victim”, who if his shooting was ruled as justified, was probably up to no good at the time… but it might put a slightly different spin on the data to these bigots who spend way too much time obsessing over race…

When this is the case, there is something fundamentally wrong with that 10% of the population. Serge, I’d disagree with nothing you just said. There are clearly issues. Clearly. But it isn’t as if 100% of that 10% is responsible for the crime and violence. A higher percentage than in other ethnic communities? Likely. All of the black ethnic community? Highly unlikely.
It’s a fundamental problem. It may not manifest in the entirety of the population, but is an inherent problem with how the community behaves and what behavior the community finds acceptable. The reality is that real “community leaders” would be working their asses off to change this self-destructive pattern of behavior within their community. There are 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, and this number is not disputed. U.S. population 324,059,091 as of Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Do the math: 0.00925% of the population dies from gun related actions each year. Statistically speaking, this is insignificant! What is never told, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths, to put them in perspective as compared to other causes of death:
• 65% of those deaths are by suicide which would never be prevented by gun laws
• 15% are by law enforcement in the line of duty and justified
• 17% are through criminal activity, gang and drug related or mentally ill persons – gun violence
• 3% are accidental discharge deaths
So technically, “gun violence” is not 30,000 annually, but drops to 5,100. Still too many? Well, first, how are those deaths spanned across the nation?
• 480 homicides (9.4%) were in Chicago in a 4 mile radius of west Garfield park. African American population density 85.5%
• 344 homicides (6.7%) were in Baltimore. African American population density 63.7 %
• 333 homicides (6.5%) were in Detroit. African American population density 82.7%
• 119 homicides (2.3%) were in Washington D.C. (a 54% increase over prior years) African American population density 50.7%
So basically, 25% of all gun crime happens in just 4 cities. All 4 of those cities have strict gun laws, all 4 of those cities have a higher than 60% African American population in the highest crime areas of the city. It is not the lack of law that is the root cause, it is a young African American male problem that can not be addressed solely by legislation.

I wish I *knew* how to end that problem. I realize that lack of education and employment opportunities is a LARGE part of why so many young black males feel that crime is a valid option. Unfortunately, there is probably a lack of resources to improve either of those situations.

I would guess that means a black man who is shot dead is 9 times as likely to have been committing a violent felony when he died. Until you demonstrate that is not true, your numbers are meaningless.

The hard reality is that black men commit 50% of the murders in this country, and 90% of those are related to gang violence. The Trace’s so-called information is disingenuous. The great irony of all of this, of course, is that ‘Stand Your Ground’ overwhelmingly benefits black men, but the Trace doesn’t like that either.

How to lie with statistics: Step one, know what your answer is going to be before you start. Step two, cherry pick your data set to get your required answer. Step three, when all else fails edit your data or just skip to the part where you lie about the result.
I expect more handgun homicides by women are found to be justified than those by men… clear evidence of sexist court bias in favor of the ladies – nothing at all to do with the fact that gun-toting female gangsters are a bit less common
Black people pose a certain threat to white people that white people do not pose to them. It’s a fact, and that fact doesn’t care about anyone’s racial sensibilities.
I’m not even saying that they are lying, i don’t have any better numbers right now.
My conclusion is just a little different: black people should stop giving any person, no matter the race or gender or whatever, a reason to kill them in justified self defense. Keep your hands in your own pockets and you will survive just fine.
