KelTec was quietly showing off an integrally suppressed SUB2000 prototype at SHOT Show’s Range Day, and it was a huge hit. For obvious reasons. The folding, lightweight 9mm carbine is a super handy little gun, and suppressing it within the footprint of a 16-inch barrel is a big win.

This is an entirely in-house project for KelTec and they plan to begin selling integrally suppressed SUB2000s this year.

By lifting a locking tab and rotating the handguard, the integral SUB2000 still folds neatly in half. With a folded length of 16 inches it can fit in a backpack or all sorts of other carrying cases and bags.

Though there was a lot of other shooting going on and hearing protection was mandatory, the integral SUB2000 was clearly extremely quiet. It actually had a smoother, softer recoil impulse than the standard SUB2000 and absolutely zero gas to the face.

This is a really cool setup and we can’t wait to get our hands on one for a full review later this year.

  1. So how much of those 16 inches is actual rifled barrel and how much is the suppressor acting as a fixed barrel extension, while not contributing to muzzle velocity or accuracy?

    • Barrel length doesn’t contribute to accuracy, and a 9mm doesn’t need much barrel to hit full velocity. Especially a subsonic round! This setup makes all the sense in the world.

        • There absolutely are gains out a longer barrel, but you dont want velocity over around 1000 fps when shooting suppressed. If you werent concerned with supersonic crack, you would likely use a bigger cartridge. This is meant for super quiet 147gr rounds at 1000 fps.

        • Those essentially plateau at 10″ anyway, especially the normal loads. 9mm just can’t use the whole 16.

    • MSRP is $999 for the base model with suppressor, so in store should be $850ish. They will also be selling a decked out version with a vortex red dot and some other additions for $1450 MSRP. The new mounting system with the sideways lockup is proprietary to the CQB, but the may release it separately if there is enough interest. Should be on store shelves by September. This is all according to sales guy running shot show booth.

  3. I want that fore end on a standard sub 2000 so I can put on an optic or decent sights and fold it up.

    Give it to me KelTec!

Not paying or waiting for a can. Just me.

    • Agree, Jeremy you buried the lede. The ability to fix a usable optic on one of these and still fold it over (and not having to wait a year for my tax stamp to clear) is a lot more exciting. This is my truck gun but it’d be a lot better with a red dot on it.

  4. Love the idea, and would love to have one (even more so if they come out with a 45 ACP version), but man I chafe at the thought of paying for a tax stamp (which I assume this weapon would require). I’ve yet to buy a suppressor for any of my firearms for that reason.

  5. Just saw the Sig P210 Carry over on TFB.

At first I thought WTH! But it looks pretty nice. Subdued, but nice.

Proabably way more than I will ever pay not cool that they made it.

Maybe Ruger will make a subcompact SR 57 with a 3.5 inch barrel and 10 round magazine.

  6. The long barrel of pistol caliber carbines significantly reduces the sonic report/signature of firing. Seems like a modest suppressor would make them downright quiet, so quiet that the sound of the action cycling would probably be louder than the report of firing.
