HMR stands for Hornady Rimfire Magnum. According to chuckhawks.com, “the .17 HMR [cartridge] is intended for hunting animals such as squirrels, rabbits, prairie dogs, gophers, marmots, and other small creatures. This is the same class of game appropriately hunted with a rifle chambered for the .22 Magnum cartridge. However, the superior velocity and flat trajectory of the .17 HMR extends the humane range..” Being a humane being, I’m down with that. Speaking of small creature you can kill with the round, this new Performance Center 647 17 HMR is a bit of an odd duck—fluted 18″ barrel, tripod and all. But I reckon it’s a real smooth shooter. The trigger reminded me of Marissa Miller, for some reason. Time to go home . . .

Those old boys I worked with back in Indiana who hunted (and then enjoyed eating) groundhogs could probably put that nice pistol to good use.
I’ve never eaten groundhog. I’ve eaten squirrel and all I can say is I’d rather starve.
I’m sure that my S&W 500 is more humane than this cool looking lil toy, and you don’t have to worry about any clean up. (because there won’t be anything left to clean and I don’t eat varmints)
