Rob Morse writes (via ammoland.com):

So let me get this straight. A man murdered his estranged wife and two innocent children in a California school. We are so desperate to ignore our own responsibility for self-defense that we blame anything and anyone but the murderer. We blame the victims, and we disarm people who’ve been attacked and received restraining orders against their attacker.

Instead of blaming the murderer, politicians across the country blamed the victim and the gun. Let’s stop pretending that laws stop murderers. Self-defense stops murderers.

The murderer then illegally concealed the handgun in public. He illegally transported the firearm in his car. The armed murderer illegally crossed into a 1000 foot “gun free” school zone. He illegally brought the gun onto school property.

Gun control failed again.

In the recent California case, the murderer was convicted of domestic abuse. He had a history of drug use, yet he got a gun illegally. Yes, you read that right. A criminal got a gun he wasn’t legally allowed to carry in the gun-control-heaven of southern California. If you were shocked that drug and gun prohibition failed, then hang on because that was just the beginning.

He illegally brought ammunition onto school property also. The murderer then illegally discharged the handgun on school property, several times. He illegally murdered his estranged wife. He illegally killed two innocent children who were hiding behind his wife. He then killed himself.

If you read the news coverage of this attack then you would conclude that what we really need is another gun-control law to make what the murderer did illegal. The reports said we need another gun-control law because the 30 thousand firearms regulations we have already passed failed to stop a suicidal murderer.  Let that sink in for a minute.

Yes, the politicians and the media are that shallow, but their story sells.

We’d rather wallow in fake grief than stop the next attacker. We’d rather blame the gun than take action to defend ourselves. Think again if you say that the police will be there to protect you. They wish they could, but they can’t.

Carol Bowne

Pretending that evil doesn’t exist cost lives. Let me remind you about the disarmed victims who died waiting for state permission to defend themselves. By law, Carol Bowne was supposed to receive her permit to buy a gun in 30 days or less. She took out a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend. This small hairdresser called the police when she saw her attacker near her home and near her work. The local police in Berlin, New Jersey ignored her. Carol Bowne died after 45 days of waiting for permission to defend herself.

The anti-gun politicians and police in New Jersey thought it was better to let Carol bleed to death after being stabbed by her attacker on her driveway rather than let Carol have a gun for self-defense.

These New Jersey Politicians have company. A few weeks ago, Democrat Governor Terry McAuliffe of Virginia said that domestic abuse victims don’t need a gun for self-defense.

McAuliffe vetoed a bill that would have let domestic abuse victims receive a temporary permit to carry a gun for self-defense after they had been to court and seen a judge in order to get a restraining order.

The temporary carry permit would be in effect while the victims applied for their state carry license. Democrat Governor McAuliffe said no,

“The bill perpetuates the dangerous fiction that the victims of domestic violence will be safer by arming themselves.  It would inject firearms into a volatile domestic violence situation, making that situation less safe, not more.”

Terry McAuliffe

Governor McAuliffe is right in that Virginia is now a little safer…if you are a domestic abuser.

McAuliffe made the world tragically worse for the victims of abuse. McAuliffe and his political supporters can’t, or won’t, distinguish the defenders from the attackers.  McAuliffe has political company.

The elected Democrats in California and New Jersey can’t tell the difference either. These Democrats will continue to blame the victim and cling to the failed fantasy of gun-control. These politicians have done everything they can to stop the victims from defending themselves.

Shame on these politicians and shame on the voters who put them in office. If your significant other beats you and you live in California, Virginia, or New Jersey, then I want  you to leave the state. Move to a free state and take a firearms class in a hurry.

I’ve a modest proposal. How about we prepare to defend ourselves if we’re threatened with violence. Anything works better than sitting there and pretending that evil doesn’t exist. Do something, but don’t pretend that passing the 30 thousandth gun law is any kind of a solution.

Gun control is a political placebo masquerading as compassion.

The political crazies say that self-defense is really surrendering to violence. They are wrong. Please defend yourself and those you love because there is evil in the world; evil that we can’t control with laws. Move to a free state if you have to, but please take action if you are at risk. Do it for yourself, for those you love, and those who love you.

  1. Well said. Murder is already illegal, brandishing a weapon is illegal, discharging a weapon in an incorporated Township is illegal, yet all gun related homicides break most or all of these laws. It’s almost as though words on a piece of paper have no intrinsic power.

  2. But it’s the LAW, you can’t break the LAW. Laws ONLY provide for a means of prosecution and DO NOT stop anyone who wants to do evil from doing that evil. It’s just that simple.

  3. True that. Let us be honest though and not sell weapons and armament as a panacea. The truth is in some of these cases it works. It many it does not. However, some truly is better than none and having a fighting chance does matter.

  4. Laws are lowest common denominator deterrents. As if anyone in history bent on murder or crime ever read a law and thought better of it.

So what actually deters criminal behavior? The consequences: long jail time, sodomy / rape in prison, solitary confinement, and the death penalty for example. They are effective. Why? Because they directly affect the criminal’s behavior and lifestyle. As does armed self defense. Most petty crime would be more rare if everyone was armed and trained in self defense because the price would be higher than criminals would want to pay. Imagine if every person a predator targets was potentially armed. It would make crime very risky.

Criminals don’t care about laws. Effective laws maximize the ability for law abiding citizens to have access to whatever tools they deem necessary for effective self defense. Period.

    • I’m not sure you are correct that the consequences of a crime DETER a whole lot of crime. Many criminals don’t consider the consequences, because they are stupid and impulsive.

BUT, the actual time in prison prevents ADDITIONAL crime. At least, being in prison limits the amount of additional crime a person can commit.

  5. The refusal of Democrat politicians to allow women who have obtained a restraining order to protect themselves is the true war on women.

  6. Well yeah. No argument from me. Give your gal a dildo when she wants a gun. Pathetic leftwing scum…

    • The act of suicide is not illegal in CA. Probably the only thing that is not. But if you assist or encourage a persons suicide in any way in CA it’s a felony.

        • Said no one ever. although California is often portrayed as the land of liberal idiocy, it is one of the toughest and most conservative criminal law jurisdictions in the country. It is in fact because of that conservatism that the prisons became massively overcrowded, with a population of 35,000 in excess of capacity. The US Supreme court and the Ninth Circuit have ordered the state to reduce its populations, and it still stands at almost 130,000 inmates, roughly 30,000 in excess of capacity. As a result, the governor has ordered felons to “community supervision,” dumping “low level offenders” back on the streets and subject to county parole supervision. Many reoffend, but because the shift of prisoners came with no state funds, the jails are overcrowded and these offenders, mostly addicts and meth dealers, float in and out of jail.

  7. Let’s be a little honest here, dems and any gun control agenda is not about stopping, reducing, preventing crime or good will towards the people. It’s about making all guns and gun ownership illegal, period

If it was for those founding fathers and that pesky constitution they would have gotten away with it too

    • >>Let’s be a little honest here, dems and any gun control agenda is not about stopping, reducing, preventing crime or good will towards the people. It’s about making all guns and gun ownership illegal, period

Is not it about exploiting hoplophobia for political dividends? I have strong suspicion that most gun-control promoters do not really care – it is just ever-popular political product to sell.

  8. Blaming the victim has been the progressives’ mantra since the 1960s and 70s.

“You were robbed? You should not have flaunted your wealth!”

“Rape? You should not have dressed so attractively.”

“Your house burgled? You should not have things people would want to steal!”

And they say nothing about the criminals because they are “victims of a society that has treated them so cruelly and their actions are justified to address the wrongs inflicted upon them”.

Basically, we are collateral damage in the great social wealth redistribution, until it happens the progressives themselves.

  9. It’s not just politicians who try to ‘gaslight’ crime victims, cops do it too. One neighbor chases a burglar off her front porch then she called the cops. The police tried to convince her that she was just imagining it, like she was crazy.

Authorities will try to turn the cards around to evade having to do work that might tackle crime problems. Gaslighting, statistics, excuses, delayed response times, lack of response at all… I’ve seen it all!

  10. Gun control is not about reducing crime. It’s simply about control.

In fact, gun control generally only controls the already law-abiding.

As we see from lots of cases, criminals break 5 or 10 laws other laws in the process of committing a “gun crime” because they do not care about the ramifications.

  11. Laws don’t work to prevent violent criminals from doing naughty things with guns? I guess we better start up the smelters and round them all up! /sarc

While some legislation make sense, the idea that you can legislate your way out of “gun violence” is certainly silly. Just like the idea that you can ban marijuana and suddenly have a drug free society. Nope. Instead we have a lot more people in prison, rampant drug trade fueled gang violence, and sick people without access to a plant that can help them with certain disorders and pain.

  12. you should see the looks i get from liberals when i ask them “why would a murderer care about a gun law, IF HE DOESN’T CARE ABOUT A MURDER LAW????”
its like that type of logic has never even crossed their minds. which is scary.

    • “why would a murderer care about a gun law, IF HE DOESN’T CARE ABOUT A MURDER LAW????”

Because there is an unwritten moral code among murderers that they won’t cross. Murder, fine. Breaking a gun control law? NEVER!

      DUH. I can’t believe you don’t know this. 😉
