My father had a long life and a quick, painless death from brain cancer. But on this, the day of his memorial, I want to give a quick shout out to all of those who’ve lost friends or family through firearms. TTAG regularly reports on gun crime: incidents, laws, police procedure, the lot. We publish Irresponsible Gun Owner of the Day, including negligent discharges which wound or kill. We look at firearms issues surrounding warfare. All our coverage is serious—but none of it takes itself too seriously. I like to believe that this wry, open-minded yet passionate approach to firearms reflects my father’s attitude to the world. He was a survivor of the Nazi’s forced labor camps. And yet he was a very funny guy. Who never forgot that ideas have very real, sometimes horrific consequences. And laughed anyway. To all those who’ve suffered in some way involving guns, you have my sympathy. May the sound of laughter re-enter your life as soon as possible, so that you can enjoy what’s left of yours, as much as you possibly can.
