“Who needs those military-style assault weapons flooding the market? And those banana clips full of ammo. Why? To go squirrel hunting? To satisfy some veteran’s nostalgia for the weapon he once fired on the range? How strange. I’ve never had the slightest longing for a 105-millimeter howitzer I could call my own.” Paul Greenberg, Come Let Us Reason Together, or: A matter of Public Health [via townhall.com]

  1. 1. The Soviets must have seen something to sell them on the small caliber high velocity bullet concept from what the 5.56mm did in ‘Nam; hence, the switch to the AK74.

    2. There are plenty of anecdotes from other wars that have an enemy combatant taking a lot of damage from larger caliber rifles yet keep on fighting. So the above Iraqi might have taken hits from a larger caliber rifle and kept on going just the same.

    3. In fact, David Bellavia recounted the tale of using larger caliber rifles on an Iraqi in Fallujah and the larger caliber was about as effective as the 5.56mm in the account above.
