We recently reported about a new executive order by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson that will do nothing to reduce violent crime in the murder-prone city, but will have a negative effect on firearm industry members doing business with the city.
Every FFL sale already goes through a federal background check
The executive order is ostensibly designed to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent only on firearm vendors that demonstrate strong legal compliance and responsible business practices. The truth is, however, all firearms dealers do just that. Licensed dealers are required to run a federal background check before legally transferring a firearm to a purchaser.
If the purchaser passes the background check, he or she has been verified by the federal government as meeting the criteria for legally purchasing a firearm. Thus, every sale by an FFL is a legal, responsible one — a fact that is proven by the background check.
The Exexutive Order prioritizes gun control bureaucracy over law enforcement safety
Now, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearm industry trade association, has weighed in on the new executive order. And despite gun-ban groups praising Johnson for the move, NSSF said it “prioritizes gun control bureaucracy over law enforcement safety.”
“Law enforcement agencies select duty firearms and ammunition through extensive testing and evaluation,” NSSF’s Larry Keane wrote in a news report on the executive order. “Reliability, accuracy, durability, ergonomics, training requirements and performance under difficult conditions all matter. Officers must have confidence that their equipment will function when their lives or the lives of others depend on it.”
Keane also wrote that those decisions should be made by experienced law enforcement professionals based on operational needs.
“They should not be manipulated, or limited, by politicians and activists seeking leverage over lawful firearm businesses,” he wrote.
Chicago cops are not guinea pigs for a political gun control agenda
The losers in the situation, as Keane pointed out, are the men and women of the Chicago Police Department.
“Chicago police officers are not guinea pigs for a political gun control agenda,” he wrote. “City officials should not exclude firearms, ammunition or equipment that best meets an officer’s safety needs merely because the manufacturer or supplier fails a subjective political test imposed by activists in City Hall.”
Keane added that Chicago’s officers face real criminals and real dangers in their day-to-day duties serving citizens of the Windy City.
“Their duty firearms and ammunition are lifesaving equipment, not political bargaining chips,” he concluded. “The professionals who carry that equipment should be able to select what best meets their needs without City Hall placing gun control ideology ahead of officer safety.”
Brady’s “shocking national problem” is really just Biden’s zero-tolerance paperwork traps
Incidentally, gun-ban groups, like Brady, love the executive order, more proof that they care more about politics than actually curbing murder and other violent crime.
“The executive order addresses a shocking national problem, exposed by a Brady investigation that law enforcement agencies have spent millions of taxpayer dollars buying firearms from dealers and manufacturers with repeated violations of federal firearm regulations,” Brady gushed in a news release on the order.
Brady’s “repeated violations” is code for Biden-era paperwork nitpicking
To be blunt, that assertion is a crock. If gun makers or gun sellers had really committed repeated serious violations of federal firearms regulation, they wouldn’t still be in business. Brady is likely referring to small paperwork errors that the Biden Administration treated as serious violations under its now defunct “zero-tolerance” policy.
Another feel-good Democrat gun-control theater
Ultimately, the executive order by Johnson is just another feel-good, virtue-signaling move that makes gun-ban advocates happy and doesn’t make anyone safer. That’s par for the course in Chicago and many other big Democrat-run cities.

The union supporting the CPD should file a lawsuit against the mayor. Make the city prove their assertions in federal or state court. Use discovery to find their ‘logic’ in creating the order. I am certain that the CPD can prove issues of officer safety, officer requirements, and more.
In the end, though, policing should be at the county level, with state and federal oversight. In most states sheriffs are voted into office, which is how it should be. They are not appointed by city governments, nor are they paid by them directly. We really need that separation. Put national standards for officers and administrative staff in place and policing will change radically with an emphasis on actual professionalism. In fact, I’d like to see national academies established (much like military academies for military officers) all over the nation. Real standards for education, height and weight, constitutional understanding, as well as the daily threats an officer will encounter. Finally, we need to reform criminal justice through a national, uniform criminal justice framework that applies to all states – just like the Uniform Commercial Code does for business. Any 12-year-old should be able to tell you what is against the law and what the penalties are – regardless of their home state.
In better news about a city, it’s been reported recently that a large number of thr vagrants in Denver moved into the drainage tunnels underneath the city. They’ve built their own little town of misfits and stolen property.
Starting this evening and into tomorrow we’re supposed to get monsoon level rains lasting into next week.
So, unless someone bothers to clear that shit out, like now, a whole lotta rats are about to drown in the dark when the water out of the mountains hits those tunnels at 50mph.
