Oy…I’m sure they’ll be effective, but I have a bruise forming on my shoulder just thinking about touching off those bad boys….
No kidding. I used the regular long beard XR shells last year, to great effect, but man, did they beat me up.
I tried these out of a stoeger SxS coach gun. My face still hurts. 3 inch mags are no joke. One or three shots no problem, but when your trying to pattern a new gun and test the new super-extra-long range-death ray shells after about 30 “turkey loads” it’s brutal.(some of them have 2 OZ loads) Also in mod or IC chokes they don’t work with these for crap. My buddy uses a benelli be2(?) with 3 1/2 inch shell for thunder lizards. They do a tight pattern but he has serious flinch issues with them AND HAS MISSED birds at closer ranges due to the rifle like patterns.(or the recoil?)
So I can say that they do reach out there, but close shots (under 30) are harder cause you really have to know where your guns POA vs POI is going to be at ranges of 12 feet to 50 yds. So at “short” range like 20 yards it’s like using a cut-shell or slug.
Nice! This is where an autoloader comes in handy.

I wonder how they perform against TSS reloads?
If you can’t call them in to 30 yards you don’t deserve to shoot them. Is there a recommendation on a specific choke?
I have seen turkey shot “bounce off” at 60 ish yards. Granted that was a few years ago with 3 inch shells but I would never recommend shooting turkeys at that distance in the woods.
