Caught this on camera this weekend and turned it into a still photo. There’s a 8 3/8″ Smith & Wesson 460XVR under that fireball. Fireball was created by a hand-rolled Hornady 230g Mag over some Hodgen H110 and a Magnum Rifle Primer. Just another reminder to use the correct grip when shooting revolvers!

Yeah, You detune it so it is running really rich, but still running. Or maybe you just disconnect a spark plug wire, Then you run it until the mufflers are very hot, and the unburned fuel in the exhaust will ignite as it leaves the mufflers, It’s cool to see, but you better not be standing behind the car when it shoot a fireball out the back. And the cops don’t like it much either.
More like the misadventures of a 19 year old amateur mechanic. I’d replaced a head gasket which requires the removal of the distributor and then coincidentally the timing chain jumped. I was thinking I’d f#*ked up the IGNITION timing when the problem was the VALVE timing. I was jumping in and out of the car and left the ignition on, pulled out the (points) distributor and spun the gear with a flooded out crank case and my wrist directly above the only open vent on the engine – BOOM. ouch.
After I bandaged up my wrist and trimmed my eyebrows I called the junk yard.
I had a 383 Chrysler do it to me through a 2 barrel i lost my eyebrows for weeks.
To this day I can’t tell you how I managed it, but I had a 383 chrysler that backfired so solidly that it blew the carb right off the motor. Ripped the bolts right out.
That’s when I figured that I wasn’t meant to be a mechanic.
Holy crap!! Was it a Holley carb? I seem to have more of the old Holleys do that to me than anything else.
I don’t recall right off hand, many years ago now. But Holleys were thick as fleas then.
did the the bullet turn to molten by the time it exited? damn looks like he will need asbestos gloves on that one…

The nice warm yellow light from the flash seems to be consistent with what you see illuminating the shooter, both shadow location and color.
Conclusion: could be real.
That isn’t me in the picture, although my first name is Aaron as well. I also have a Smith .460 Mag 8 3/8″ revolver. I have still video photos of massive muzzle blast. I could submit a similar photo. The 460 / 500 has so much muzzle blast that it could quite literally rip your thumb off if you were to hold it very close to the barrel / cylinder gap.
Looks like rocket exhaust coming from the bullet.
Did it singe the hair off your arms or your eyebrows?

You think a stock M44’s muzzle blast is bad, look up obrez vids on Youtube. An SBR Mosin is perfect for those times you need to kill and flambe your target simultaneously.

Anyone that’s shot a 460 can tell you that the muzzle blast on those babies are real and giant.

On that revolver the correct grip is a remote trigger, with the gun locked in a vise.
It pulls double duty as a flash-bang to stun your target for a clear follow up shot.
My Raging Bull .454 Casull and KelTec PLR-16 are both flame throwers too. I’ve thought about packin’ some marshmallows in the range bag so I can have a snack while I shoot.
I’ve got a 10.5″ s&w 500mag performance center and my dad has a snubby 460s&w bear kit gun. They do throw one hell of a fireball. They draw a crowd every time we bring em out but not too many people are willing to shoot em. My 360pd j-frame has about the same fireball with 357mag but the recoil is worse than either of the big boys it weighs 13oz.
Love the S&W 360! One hell of a carry gun.
I downloaded mine to .38 +P. The .357 hurt worse than my .460 XVR.

I guess this means I need an asbestos glove (with really long gauntlets) if I want to hold the barrel with my weak hand.
Ruger Blackhawk in .30 carbine will equal that and maybe more. Real show stopper.
There are really people here saying that is a photoshop….Really? Have you folks even been to a gun range before? If you snap the picture at the right time – most any pistol will produce a sizable fireball. This one is bigger than you normally see because of H-110 powder. 2400 or any of the slower powders will do this.
Heck – even a little .22 magnum mousegun will throw a fireball close to that size.
I doubt that. If its the case, post a photo or vid.
Lighten up, Francis. We know it ain’t photoshopped. A photo like that was made to have fun with. Just as making the photo was fun.
You can get a bigger flame than that with an aerosol can of hairspray and a Bic lighter. I know because I saw it in a movie.
