Rioters looting the market from which Michael Brown was filmed stealing cigars on the day he was shot to death.

Police responded in significant numbers and considerable force to protestors reacting to the St. Louis County grand jury “no bill” verdict on the Michael Brown shooting. Video of the scene showed police meeting attacks on St. Louis county police cars with swift action including beanbags and multiple tear gas vollies and arrests. CNN is reporting sounds of gunshots (which may have been those beanbags), sporadic looting and at least one storefront on fire. As of the time of writing, despite the significant law enforcement presence and a forceful response, the violence appears to be escalating with  . . .

multiple reports of small arms fire. There are also reports that a local Walgreens is burning. You can listen to St. Louis County police calls here.

The police are not, however, attempting to stop or arrest looters, who have entered the liquor store where Michael Brown committed a strong arm robery, a wireless store and an auto parts store.

  1. Play stupid games in stupid places with stupid people and you win stupid prizes. I bet a bean bag round to the nuts hurts like hell.

    • I hope none of the burned/looted stores rebuild/reopen. I hope the remaining businesses close, pack-up, and leave forever. I hope this place becomes a retail wasteland, and every single resident in a 2 mile radius has to walk/drive/ride-a-bus for 10 miles to buy groceries, a hamburger, or get their hair cut, so this neighborhood (and the rest of the country) have a constant reminder of what happens when you encourage/allow the lowlifes to take control, no matter for how short a time.

      And I don’t want to hear any more of the crap about how most of the looters are “folks from outside the area”; they sure aren’t dressed like tourists or visitors (some aren’t even wearing coats, so home must be close by), and a lot of them seem to know each other quite well. Here’s hoping the cops get good video of a BUNCH of faces and can arrest and convict a large percentage of these losers. Wishful thinking, I know…

      Where the eff is the Natty Guard? Where are all the fire and police who were going to maintain order? Why aren’t the decent people getting ready to lynch Jay Nixon?

        • Sorry, that was more of a rhetorical musing.

          Nattys were activated days ago, they should have been deployed on every major street in Ferguson. Nixon made a big to do about protecting lives and property – he neglected to mention that would only be the lives and property of police. Everyone else is on their own.

          Perhaps today someone will actually question why this utterly preventable destruction was allowed to happen.

  6. Just my 2 cents, but if people are looting your store, you aught to have a legal right to open fire on them.

    • Actually no, not in most states. However if they want to set it on fire, fair game, shoot to stop the threat.

    • I’ll clarify. I don’t believe that if someone is running away from your house with your tv you have the right to shoot him in the back. However, if a hundred people are looting your store and you happen to be on the premises, I don’t see how that is not a justifiable reason to fear for your life. Therefore, by all means, have at it.

      Also, it’s too bad Bull Connor ruined the use of fire hoses forever. I don’t believe in using them against peaceful protesters, but those looters would are another story. According to Accuweather it’s currently 39 degrees in Ferguson on it’s way to 24. I’m guessing those looters would go home early if they were soaking wet.

      • Some countries put an indelible dye into the water. Then they arrest the rioters at their leisure the next few days.

        • Even better. Still Connor ruined it for at least another couple of generations. Peaceful protesters or looting thugs, these people can’t (won’t) accept that Michael Brown robbed a store and attacked a cop, do you think they’d appreciate the difference between peaceful protesters and looters and arsonists?

      • A) They most certainly weren’t all ‘peaceful’. What level of ‘innocent little chile-dren’ does one have to mix into a riot to make it untouchable?
        B) ‘Peaceful and lawabiding’ is a somewhat better yardstick to set for ‘don’t turn the hoses on them’.

  7. Well glad to see the Missouri 12 no bill Officer Wilson Justice no doubt especially after seeing the jury mix and on all 5 accounts. Here is hoping things stay peaceful for all involved but most likely a big push for violent protests let’s hope those dealing with the fallout are ready and willing to protect themselves and there’s and if we see the mobs predicted that Justice is served and swiftly as this was truly not the person or place to back on police injustices. The Innocent in these areas need held up along with those there trying to protect them for safety for all and coming home to there families. Best Wishes

    • Yep, it would be stupid for any insurance company to ever sell insurance for any business that decides to locate there. The house values will tumble. Joblessness will skyrocket. They may not even be able to pay for any significant police presence. It is so predictable.

      • This assumes that the owners of said stores have significant insurance. But it certainly does ensure that Ferguson will join the list of neighborhoods killed by Section 8 and other aftereffects of the 60’s.

  10. Can’t say I’m surprised. They probably would have done some looting and arson to “celebrate” an indictment too. This is just an excuse for anti-social elements (many who have flown in from around the country) to do things they wanted to do anyways. I don’t believe anyone engaging in this criminal activity actually believes it will advance any cause.

  11. A thought: The police were supposedly diligent enough to warn/ask pawn shops to clear out their firearms ahead of the mob. Why the heck were the liquor stores not cleared out? How much additional looting/violence is THAT gonna cause, once these animals get lubed up? Methinks at least a few of these stores probably took out some insurance policies in the last few weeks…

    • The store that put up “hands up, don’t shoot” signs on the outside?

      They threw their lot in with the “protesters” and, I suspect, did not cooperate with the police.

  12. You are on your own in Missouri…but we all knew that from the previous looting. For all you so-called internet lawyers out there does this qualify as a civil insurrection? As I type I am watching a live stream from Fox. And beyond disgusted. Think of Chicago, Watts,Detroit or Newark. Did those neighborhoods EVER recover?
