— Adam Baldwin (@AdamBaldwin) March 27, 2014
Actor Adam Baldwin retweeted this message from the Twitter machine of @GunSenseUSA (hijacking Moms Demand Action’s @gunsense) with the above picture, which uses the First Amendment to debunk many of the assumptions and rationalizations the disarmament folks try to make about the Second Amendment. Your Lockdown of the Day™ comes from . . .
Baltimore, and it’s just painful. KIPP charter schools were locked down for more than an hour and a half yesterday after a child saw a man with a photographer’s tripod and thought it was a gun. Yes, it’s stupid, but you need to read the full article to get the depth of it, not just about this incident, but about the whole panic-inducing response of lockdowns in general. “Some students and parents criticize school officials for overreacting,” but the article disdains those criticisms. “The lockdowns now practiced by most schools in the country help prepare students psychologically because students know they are doing what will make them feel safe during a tense situation.” They quote a mental health specialist who says that the perception of what could happen can cause anxiety, but it’s all OK, because “Most students will bounce back to normal in a few days or weeks…”
The Second Amendment Foundation has won a permanent injunction in a case it brought against the State of New Mexico’s “citizens only” provision in its laws concerning concealed carry. U.S. District Court Chief Judge M. Christina Armijo issued an order on April 1 that says the New Mexico statute “violates the Equal Protection Clause” of the Constitution’s Fourteenth Amendment. She found that the law unfairly discriminated against permanent legal resident aliens in disallowing them the right to concealed carry. The ruling does not affect the concealed carry law as a whole, but only severs the “citizenship provision” from the rest of the statute.
From The Tactical Wire – Overland Park, Kan. – Uncle Mike’s, a leading provider of hunting and shooting accessories for more than 60 years, has introduced a new versatile tactical shooting bag for long range enthusiasts. The Uncle Mike’s Long Range Tactical Bag is designed to not only safely transport rifles to the range, but also converts into a comfortable shooting mat. With an overall length of 50″, the Long Range Tactical Bag is capable of carrying almost any long gun equipped with a scope and bi-pod. The soft-sided Long Range Tactical Bag is built with durable 1000 Denier fabric for long-term reliability and protection. After safely transporting a rifle to the range or competition, the Long Range Tactical Bag can be quickly converted to a 78″ shooting mat. The 30″ flip-out shooting mat includes a front load strap that allows shooters to load the bipod while shooting prone and establish a rock-solid rest. The versatility of this shooting bag is an ideal design for long range shooters and competitors. The Long Range Shooting bag has four self-adjusting magazine pockets, which will hold magazine calibers that range from .223/5.56mm to .308/7.62mm. Designed to fit inside the popular Pelican 1750 case, the Uncle Mike’s Long Range Tactical Bag is available for an MSRP of $194.95.
I didn’t see this until today, but Iraqveteran8888 posted this video on April 1st. Taking off the old standby of cleaning your guns when your daughter’s boyfriend shows up at the house, here’s “Five Guns To Scare Your Daughter’s Boyfriend.” They call it their “April Fools” video, but you know the best jokes always have an element of truth to them.
I especially like the suppressor idea.
“So not only have this “expert’s” claims been proven patently false, he failed to meet the standard of knowledge he set for himself, and his appeal to authority did him more harm than good.” – Right so figure out how to illustrate that to everyone watching in 140 characters or less and you end a Twitter war.
I have ended 3 just today on various topics. Know the rules for radicals. Know your enemy. Keep broadcasting the message.
I see what the author is trying to do here but they oversimplify too much for the analogy to be perfect. First, the statement is not identical because it doesn’t say “keep and bear books.” where ‘bear’ has, it is argued by supreme court justices, very specific meanings and connotations. Also, the author stresses that there are no restrictions on classes (“does not say, imply, or even suggest that only registered voters…” as an example), but laws restricting felons’ access to firearms would not likely be successfully challenged in the supreme court. Remember, of course, that the 2nd amendment also does not say, imply, or even suggest that it didn’t apply to slaves. But it didn’t. And it wasn’t intended to. Interpretation of the constitution was delegated to practiced and scholarly judges because perspective and insight is necessary to actually interpret law according to the constitution and centuries of precedent and common law, even when, to a laymen, the statement ‘seems’ to lend itself to a common sense interpretation. It’s simply not that simple, no matter how much you might want it to be.
Kool Aid? What flavor?
The second amendment was specific in its intent to prevent the government from infringing on our right and ability to abolish said government if it became tyrannical or antithetical to our goals and intentions. How then does giving any branch of that government, even the Judicial branch, the authority to interpret and restrict the Second Amendment make sense?
“…shall not be infringed.” Not rocket science.
Interpretation of the constitution was delegated to practiced and scholarly judges because perspective and insight is necessary to actually interpret law according to the constitution and centuries of precedent and common law
Would have to disagree. Some things in the Constitution really are not that complicated. And precedent isn’t always constitutional.
For years now I have confronted anti-Second Amendment adherents. Most are also against any form of identification or qualification for voting, which they see as an impediment and disenfranchisement to those who are poorer to vote.
Likewise, all these registration requirements, fees for background checks, waiting periods, and other many restrictions put on Second Amendment rights to “keep and bear arms” would not be accepted if put on the First Amendment or if these restrictions were put on voting. There would be an outcry from the Hollywood folks, the NAACP, ACLU, and many other groups and leaders.
The one I hate are the ones I call the ‘expert by tragic accident’. For example:
I was a shooting victim/survivor or my child/spouse/parent was, therefore I am an expert on gun violence, and I believe we should have _____ (more gun control).
This is an appeal to emotion and logical fallacies combined. Like, being in a car accident does not make you an expert on automobile accidents. However, they are very hard to attack, because the antis always say, “How dare you attack that poor innocent victim? Hasn’t she/he been through enough pain?”
Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly are false Experts By Tragic Accident.
It’s an entirely logical interpretation and the only possible one – or else bump-firing a rifle would make it full auto, firing a handgun with two hands would make it an sbr, etc, etc. Has to be design intent. Can see irritation by some and elation by others, perhaps understandably so. it doesnt change world however. It’s not a stock and doesnt make it an sbr. Close, but no cigar. Not adjustable/collapsible, has an ‘open back’ and straps on it (that you cant take off or modify!), still can’t run a VFG, etc. Wonder what folks who get all in a stitch about it being illogical think about bullpups. As someone said above, they had no choice but to stay with design intent, not one different possible usage, or else the whole muddled thing falls apart. So just roll with it.
As far as I can say, people that shoot children and unarmed citizens are bullies and cowards, enough said. Point a gun back at those chicken s_ _ _ s and they will fold like a bad pocker hand, or kill themselves. I personally think all of us have our God given rights to carry!
Mark “The Professional Husband” Kelly is a digusting opportunist who should be ridiculed at every chance.
Not trying to poo poo this but it looks like another gadget that will wind up in that junk box after the coolness wears off. That’s why the ATF approved it. But as long as some people are happy with it is all that matters.
I have a long list of new fangled gadgets in boxes in the garage. I’m not adding anymore. I’ll pass on this.
Youtube channel forgottenweapons does 3 gun with some really obscure guns
The book example is a fine wording IMO for how the prefatory clause makes a statement but is not the meat of the amendment like the operative clause is.
An example I have often thought of is:
“A well-regulated press being necessary to the functioning of a free state, the right of the people to engage in speech shall not be infringed.”
I’m with you fred just like the slide fire stock and trigger attachments it’ll wind up with the rest of the new legal way to get around laws stuff that nobody plays with anymore
That is bad ass! I take delivery of a H&R M1 on Monday from the CMP!!! All mine for $624.
AMAZING ONLY GABBY AND MARK DESERVE TO HAVE GUNS AND PROTECT THEMSELVES WHAT A COUPLE OF POS’S .KEVIN
Kyle is dead right.
The example provided, while well intentioned, substantially shifts the meaning and intent of the Second Amendment to make it appear that the only reason everyone has the “right” to keep and read books is for the sake of having a well informed electorate, etc.
I’m convinced as are many others that the Second Amendment intended to acknowledge that while a militia is necessary, in spite of that, the right of THE PEOPLE to bear arms shall not be infringed.
This makes far more sense when one consider the historic context of the Second Amendment. The USA had fought a war against another nation’s army, their militia, and one thing that army tried to was TAKE AWAY the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
So, while acknowledging that a well-regulated militia is important this in no way can ever infringe upon the people’s right to keep and bear arms.
Make sense?
Here is the letter directly from SIG SAUER’s web site:

If we are going to play the whole “logical fallacy” game, we need to be honest with ourselves and admit that our side indulges in plenty of logical fallacies when making our case or responding to the antis.
Ad hominem is one of the chief fallacies.
And you can pretty much see every other one at work as well in the comment section on TTAG.
So, we don’t have much to be proud of either when it comes to using sound logic to refute the other side’s assertions.
The fake gun or weapon in a robbery should have the same penalty as the victim would not know the difference. When a gun is stuck in your ribs you don’t have the luxury to check to see if it is a high point, a revolver, a be pistol, or a short piece of pipe. The same with the finger in the pocket “I got a gun” style robberies.
I took a robbery call a few years back where a Crossman BB pistol was used. The vic swore it a Smith 5900 series…. we didn’t know it was a BB gun until we recovered it.
The Uncle Mike bag looks interesting. In my experience, Uncle Mike products are just so-so when it comes to quality. Generally they seem to hold up pretty well, but my Uncle Mike range bag has failed at certain stress points and attachment points.
I’d say if that bag was under $150, I’d definitely take a look.
Too bad the site provides so little by way of pics and if black is the only color option, no thanks. Way too hot unless you are shooting in the shade. I’d go with a nice coyote brown though.
Let’s make a bet Bobbie. Let’s see how NBC’s ratings for the olympics were when you were out. Wanna bet your career and marketability are dead?
Bob, Bob, Bob you forgot to load your comment with “professional” in front of the athletes. You know the guys who received “special” tutoring and assistance through high school and college so they could maintain their eligibility. You have foolishly left the liberal barn door open for 4H shooting clubs, the excellent Miss (Mrs.?) Weiss, not to mention all the shooting sports (if NASCAR is a sport, so is CAS). You sir are a (not pronounced due-mahs).
Fact:
When a spree killer attacks, the sooner that good people can bring force to bear on the spree killer, the lower the body count. And the fastest possible way to bring force to bear on a spree killer is having armed personnel already at the location of the spree killer’s attack before the spree killer takes any action.
Conclusion:
Armed personnel on site minimizes the number of mortally wounded victims if a spree killer attacks.
Whether the presence of armed personnel on site convinces a spree killer not to attack at all (bonus!) or armed personnel engage a spree killer within seconds, armed personnel will minimize the body count. That is a win no matter how you look at it.
Aren’t there people out there that shoot for sport? Isn’t there an Olympic competition based on that? How deep can you fit that foot in your mouth?
Thank God for Pinkeye.
I see Heinz Ward is gone from the halftime show. NBC must have seen the ratings drop when he and Bob were talking, and figured, boy, they don’t like Heinz.
I admit that I was a bit confused by the quote. So I went to the story. And I’m still confused. Is he suggesting that there should be a special exception for athletes, and that they alone (along with felons, domestic abusers and crazy people) shouldn’t be able to own guns? Regardless of his position on guns generally, such a statement seems preposterous.
If your company refuses to allow you to carry, ask them to supply you with a document stating that they will assume all legal, civil and financial liability resulting from their self-defense prohibition.
Then concealed carry anyway. if you don’t know how to hide your weapon discretely, you may have too big of a weapon. Most shots are fired within 10 feet or less so a smaller gun will do. Go to your gun shop and get a small enough weapon for hiding and shooting close range.
My head hurt before I read the title, and I was prepared to lie down in a dark room after clicking on it, but it’s actually a good question in that context. I’m really sitting on the fence. On one hand, I’d rather be held up by some punk with a toy gun and have him face less charges if arrested, (If I haven’t slotted him by then), than someone with a real gun. But if they’re discouraged from using firearms altogether, I know I have a better chance of living.
I heard a sound… Grab the gun… Crap, I didn’t replace the battery…
Forgetful Gun Owner of the Day
If we’re all being judged by the standards set by professional athletes, it’s no wonder our society is circling the drain…
You couldn’t set the bar lower without digging a trench.
Hey, free market and all that. Invent it, develop it, market it, sell it. Make it or break it on the product’s merit.
Just don’t force anyone to buy it.
Hideo Kojima spent the plot of one of his most famous games (Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots) explaining, in exquisite detail, exactly why smart guns are such a phenomenally bad idea. And unlike in that story, I don’t think we’ll be getting a geriatric superspy to come save the day if we implement it.
Chris Kyle was one of the deadliest human beings on Earth with a firearm — and he died with a gun in his hand. We don’t actually have Spiderman senses or eyes on the back of our heads. Virtue isn’t the quicker draw or surer shot, whether your Wild Bill Hickok or Billy the Kid. A well-armed society is a hyper-paranoid society, one without much civility or trust.

A similar incident just happened in my town. The trooper should have just likely shot the guy instead of wrestling him. He could have gotten himself or others killed as a result of his weapon being out and engaged in a fight.
I want one, but the price would have to get down to $1500 or below before I could justify it.
Something surprising and refreshing in the narrative coming out of this tragedy and being covered in the media is the idea of gun-free zones being target rich, killer magnets.
We’ve all been saying this for years; but to hear the view regarded at least as a plausible assessment is encouraging. It’s doubly tragic that it takes a tragedy to get some people to do what is right and what should have been done all along; namely, to quit infringing on free people’s right to keep and bear arms.
The Canadian government has offered a {2}year amnesty on ownership which basically means you can keep it locked in your safe but if you take it out you could go to jail. (Edited for updated information,Sorry about that)
I’ll wait for Mark (Silencer Shop) to comment before I get in a snit.
PDs in big cities are just as disconnected from the people as are the Feds. Yes, there will be another Waco or Ruby Ridge, but it’s just as likely to be in a city as in the countryside and be led by big city cops.
Or have we already forgotten the 1985 “Move” disaster in Philadelphia, when the Philly cops bombed a tenement building from a helicopter and roasted five kids and 65 homes?
No, but if they did, I would tell them to pound sand.
No…And I made sure my kids doctors knew better than to ask them (15 YEARS AGO).
Remember that the National Pediatrician groups are ACTIVELY Anti Gun.
I should probably go buy a new parka….
I read all these comments with interest. I did not see any reference to the UN Agenda 21. Look folks, our government,in collusion with the UN, is in process of running all of us into the major cities and declaring all lands off limits. They use “endangered species”, wetlands, wild lands and just plain too expensive to stay. All, do a search on Agenda 21. You will get UN websites that will tell you what the world’s powers are planning to do. If you actually get out there and read their goals, it may set your hair on fire. those tortoises actually thrive with cattle around. One of your posters even had a website that describes tortoises and cattle co-existing well. When cattle are removed from areas, the population of tortoises drops. They do eat “poop”…
