Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms sticks its tongue out at Rahmbo in their latest press release:
BELLEVUE, WA – Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s proposal to slap law-abiding Illinois gun owners with a handgun registration mandate that includes a $65 per-gun fee is “nothing more than a maneuver to discourage gun ownership in the face of court rulings that have gone against Chicago’s stubborn gun ban mentality,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
Under Emanuel’s proposal, any Illinois resident purchasing a handgun would be hit with the $65 registration requirement, which is over and above current statutory requirements that include possession of a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card.
“This is Rahm Emanuel’s childish strategy of striking back at the Second Amendment,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb. “Chicago lost before the Supreme Court in the landmark McDonald case, and its horribly written handgun ordinance has also been rejected by a federal appeals court.
“Because he is on the losing end of the gun rights battle,” Gottlieb continued, “Mayor Emanuel now wants to take out his frustration on every law-abiding gun owner in Illinois. This is the kind of reaction one expects from a five-year-old throwing a temper tantrum, but it should be beneath the dignity of an adult who is supposed to be the leader of one of the nation’s largest cities.”
Emanuel claims that his measure is aimed at helping police, parents and community groups. But State Rep. Brandon Phelps, a Harrisburg Democrat, called the proposal a “slap in the face of every law-abiding gun owner.” Gottlieb concurs with that assessment.
“Rahm Emanuel is a both a product, and a philosophical poster child, of two anti-gun administrations,” he said. “He served in both the Clinton and Obama administrations, always as point man on gun control initiatives. He does not seem to grasp the reality that American citizens, including those living in Illinois, have a constitutionally-protected civil right to keep and bear arms for their personal protection.
“Mayor Emanuel’s crass effort to infringe on that right through legislative demagoguery is insulting and immature,” Gottlieb said. “This is the kind of behavior that continues to land Chicago in court, and pretty soon, taxpayers will grow tired of entertaining his anti-gun agenda with their dollars.”
As a IL citizen, I cannot wait for the day the the “armpit” of america is “annexed” into it’s own “little state”….
And once it’s an independent country, we can “suspect” them of possessing WMD and invade! 🙂
I used to live in Indiana right near the “border” between IN and IL. Even back then (16 years ago now), you had to exert extra caution and vigilance and always know where you were physically located. This was before the advent of GPS devices for us common serfs. You could obtain a CCW permit in IN, but it was an automatic felony to be caught in IL with a CCW or any gun for that matter. I was literally 20 minutes from the IL border and they did not always have clear signs marking that you were about to enter IL. It is similar to those who live near the Mexican border. You take the wrong exit or interchange and viola – you are now in Mexico where even a single shell casing could land you in a Mexican prison. Perhaps like the firearms companies who are located in IL and considering moving, perhaps those who live in IL now should consider moving to a more gun friendly state. Just a suggestion.
So having to show a photo ID to vote is an “unreasonable burden” but $65 per gun registration fee isnt?
And obtain a special ID to buy a gun!
There are mechanisms in Illinois to ensure that the poorest folks (the homeless) are able to exercise their right to vote by obtaining a FREE state identification card.
FOID’s and this gun registration fee aren’t free, and therefore infringe on the rights of the poor by creating a prohibitively expensive barrier. (I know what you’re thinking: “But guns aren’t free; so how does this create an additional burden over the cost of a gun and ammo?” To which I would remind you that the cost of a gun–if any, as guns can, of course, be “gifted”–is a commercial factor, and not a case of a government creating a barrier to a civil right. Apples and oranges.)
Ah but the federal $200 for making a gun tax does create a prohibitively high burden for some people when buying a new gun.

I have made this prediction in the past and I still feel it will come true this little bitch of a mayor is going to keep stomping his feet to a point where 1. he will be out of a job and 2. the whole system will come crashing down around them and Ill will soon become a ccw state like their brother state to the north of them ….and south…..and east….and west…….

What bothers me is that ninnies keep voting and supporting people like this.
Rahm Emanuel’s father was a member of the Irgun, an aggressive, armed paramilitary organization that existed prior to the creation of the state of Israel. During the first Gulf War, Emanuel was as a civilian volunteer in the IDF, and I’ve heard that the IDF is armed. Emanuel is surrounded by people with guns, some of them in uniform and some not. So, no, Rahm Emanuel is not anti-gun. He is anti-you.

Yea, as a fellow member of the tribe I do find it weird that someone who volunteered with the IDF, does he not see the value in peoples ability to defend themselves?
Apparently he only supports it when the governing elites first ok the people to be temporarily armed against foreign enemies at the gates.
I notice Rahm has not given up his security detail.
You beat me too it! Rahm’s pediatrician father instilled into the boys, apparently, a competitive spirit and a “keep it in the family” attitude towards defensive powers. Rahm is well known as physically aggressive. He cut his political eye teeth on a Daley campaign. The deal in Chicago is simple: North Shore and Loop business willingly pays higher taxes for extra policing and trash services. South Chicago is the trash to be serviced, and the PD has a union-contract monopoly on fighting the gangs. Sure it doesn’t work, but a contract’s a contract. The Irgun had a religious terror motive, explicitly. In the US, though, the thought is that money, political power, and academic prestige should be used, not guns (well, post-Dutch Schulz) to gain ascendance. God (ah!) forbid the hoi polloi should in their vast numbers have a different view. Ergo, Rahm is rational, but anti-you.
So, we agree. The bottom line is — Rahm is a pr!ck. That pretty much covers it.
i agreed with Ralph’s sentiment. these pols feel that the require security forces around themselves while obstructing the ability for normal people to defend their families.

If you articulate it well, I’ve found that a lot of gun grabbers understand that citizens should hold ultimate power and begin to thing about the issue in better terms.
It is typical of Chicago politics. Recall Mayor Daley’s illegal bulldozing of Meig’s Airfield. It was done in malice and for no other reason than to fulfill a childish temper tantrum. This is just how Chicago (Obama) politics works.
