Early reports indicated that the Umpqua Community College shooter had been taken into custody. As is so often the case in these situations, early reports are frequently wrong. Now CNN reports that “The man who authorities believe opened fire at Oregon’s Umpqua Community College on Thursday is dead, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin told reporters.” There’s no information yet as to whether he was killed by police or committed suicide. “The suspect was a 20-year-old man, according to Oregon Gov. Kate Brown.” We’ll no doubt hear much more about the shooter and how he died in the hours and days ahead. Stay tuned.

  1. If you slap some cuffs on a corpse is that corpse not “in custody?” CNN may have a few inaccurate and idiotic things to say about it.

  2. Four posts for the same topic, in a matter of a couple hours? Would it not be possible simply to add updates to a single post? It sure would make following the conversation much easier.

  3. Looking at the picture posted: was it not enough of an insult that students’ second amendment-protected rights were violated? They then had to be subjected to a violation of their fourth amendment-protected rights as well?

    • I was thinking the same thing. Not to mention that stopping students to check their bags creates a wonderful bottleneck for any other shooters that may be present. I mean, did they know at the time this photo was taken that the shooter was alone?

  4. Anyone care to take bets that this loser was quietly goaded into doing this by liberals hoping to wave bloody shirts and scream for more gun control? After all, Sandy Hook is old news now. Gotta get a new nutcase to go berserk in a “gun free zone” every so often so the vultures can feed…

  5. From the looks of the picture above there is plenty of concealment at the Community College. The two chicks up front might have hidden a whole class….

  6. That’s more like it.

As I said after the first sketchy reports came out, that high of a casualty count is indicative of someone on a mission, not just violently lashing out like the guy in SD or the girl in PA, and is inconsistent with their surviving the day.

So either the initial body count figure was way overestimated, or this guy was not taken alive, as was first reported. Turns out it’s the latter. I was hoping for the former.

    • No can do. As the story on U.T. – Austin yesterday discussed, liberal professors don’t feel safe when law abiding citizens peacefully and unobtrusively exercise their natural rights to keep and bear arms and self defense.

How that squares with the horror of being hunted in the halls by a psychotic gunman along with all the other disarmed students, staff and faculty, I couldn’t tell you.

  7. The shooter seems to have operated the YouTube channel “First Last” and styled himself as “Eggman.”

He was an active member of /r9k/, a Reddit forum for people who hate “normies.” A “normie” (a new term for me today) is evidently a young male who is well-adjusted and well-liked in society. The r9k folks despise them, and others post videos such as “Death to all normies” and similar fare.

I expect that the “eggman” videos will disappear soon, but for the moment you can see this pathetic Caucasian loser here:

      • The evil creature was evidently a 20-year-old male. And a horrifically bad example of human.

My sad condolences to all lives affected by this wretch. He evidently set out to kill those people because they were well adjusted and well liked, at least in his view.

        • But where is the link between that post and the Eggman person? As I understand it, that board is anonymous so there’s no way to know that it was him. It seems the source of the speculation about the identity of the shooter came from 4chan users who, according to his video, saw him as a normie anyway and would therefore have motive to slander his name by pointing the finger at him. This is all speculation on my part and the whole 4chan and normie thing is new to me as well so take this with a grain of salt.

        • I agree that this is not confirmed. But each new bit seems to align with previous ones and to point at the same person.

So far, no name has been given — and I’m just as happy about that. This evil cretin was white, which will make a lot of media folks happy. And he was not obviously a jihadist or part of BlackLivesMatter or playing some exaggerated version of the Knockout Game.

If he’s connected to anything, it is the sad decline in the socialization and education of young people. But that will not be a feature on the news, I expect.

The saddest thing of all, it seems to me, is that the killer was horrifically warped and twisted, but not clearly insane.

        • And now it seems that this “egg white” fellow was not the shooter after all. This will massively disappoint all of the anonymous posters cheering him on before the news broke, then applauding afterward.

The name “Chris Harper Mercer” has just surfaced, who appears to be a completely different person. Age 26, not 20. And anti-religion. We’ll see.

Hah. The media is touting that Mercer was “a conservative Republican.” Here it comes…
