Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, which includes the city of Pittsburgh, became yet another jurisdiction to use the Chinese flu pandemic as an excuse to shutter its office that takes and processes concealed carry permits last month. Upholding Pennsylvanians’ civil rights apparently weren’t considered essential services.

In response, the Firearms Policy Coalition sued Allegheny County Sheriff William Mullen and others alleging violation of Second and Fourteenth Amendment rights. Yesterday, however, the Sheriff and the county backed down, announcing that they’d reopen the county Firearms Division again on Monday.

It was all apparently just a silly misunderstanding. One that took filing a federal lawsuit to resolve. Congrats to the Firearms Policy Coalition and Allegheny county residents who will once again be able to fully exercise their right to keep and bear arms.

  1. Until a meaningful slap down is handed to these practices, they will only continue.. A hinderance is better than nothing it the eyes of these agencies…

    • What amount of delay can the FPC sue over? Minneapolis (Hennepin county) closed all but one office and the wait to even submit your application is over three months, with the permit coming a month or more after that.

  3. effff LEO….any law enforcement entity that for one sec enforces or goes with this Orwellian bullshit, to include vaccines and masks, social distancing and the lot should all be fired, arrested and hung for treason.

  4. These processes could easily be fulfilled online or by entirely non-sworn personnel just like the DMV.

  5. 8a-12p, yeah they’ll get 3 or 4 permits done in that time just so they can be seen “doing something”. Open up full time, borrow manpower from all other departments and get the caught up ASAP.

    On a side note, thank you for going back to the old layout, it’s much easier to follow.

  6. All this BS over keeping a firearm that you already paid a FFL for a silly background check to own and now if you want to put a coat over it you have to pay more and get special permission from some stick in the mudd. Or you’ll be cuffed and headed to jail. C’mon man.

      Dan Zimmerman, while I prefer this classic layout over the past week’s, I also appreciate your attempts to explore possible improvements and not allow TTAG to become “dated” over time. Perhaps in the future you can have your web developer provide a link to a separate beta site, so we can visit it and provide feedback before any permanent changes are implemented here? That may help to get the best positives from your regular readership and allow you to successfully phase in small changes, in lieu of a bucket-of-ice-water shock. 🙂

  9. Its getting to the point that I would carry regardless…

    As for the layout, I always refer to this site among others to get a general idea of what’s going on regarding politics and crime. I had difficulty trying to find the current day/new articles on the front page the last few days. Overall though I liked the new layout and I appreciate that you’re trying something new btw.

  11. I also carry regardless. Nobody is going to tell me otherwise. I won’t travel any way that won’t allow me to carry (metal detectors etc). I have been of the mindset that I’d rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6 for a long time, but now it’s looking like the better option is to just take as many of the opposition with you and don’t even give them the opportunity to try you. I guess I’d rather just die fighting, and 2021 is probably going to be that year.

    Also, thanks to TTAG for fixing the front page so I can rant on newer articles easier. Maybe someone will remember me in 2022 for being the one that followed through.

  12. Simply solution, the judge should have fine the Sheriff not the Department or the County but the Sheriff himself X amount of dollars every single day since he failed to obey his oath. If we did away with qualified immunity for law officers that break the law and forced them personally to pay for their actions a lot more cops would be acting like Peace Officers, instead of Law Enforcers.

  13. Adhering to the law of the land would prevent all this,the 2 nd. amendment is all the permit needed by any U S Citizen.
