A constant feature of Democrat policy over the last three decades has been its constant, steady move to the left on gun issues. While members of both parties once respected the “shall not be infringed” part of the Second Amendment and were supportive of our right to keep and bear arms, all of that has changed. Now, if you are a firearm owner who wants to retain ownership of those firearms after the November election, you choice in the ballot box is clear.
Biden has made it clear that he’s profoundly ignorant about the 2nd Amendment, and gun issues in general. At one point, he tried to paint himself as a defender of the Second Amendment by saying that he told his wife Jill that “if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out and put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house.” Similarly, he said that “[if] you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door.”
Even when Biden wanted to paint himself as a defender of gun rights, he advocated risky policies that would probably have led to dangerous behavior and more gun control. Pro tip: don’t take firearms advice from politicians.
But that was back when Biden at least tried to portray that he respected the right to keep and bear arms. Now, he doesn’t even bother to pretend. In recent statements, Biden has said that he will ban “large” (standard, 30-round capacity) magazines, declaring that “Federal law prevents hunters from hunting migratory game birds with more than three shells in their shotgun. That means our federal law does more to protect ducks than children.”
Never mind that the Ninth Circuit recently declared California’s “large capacity” magazine ban unconstitutional, Biden wants to ban your right to protect yourself.
Similarly, he has professed a desire to implement a national gun buyback program, which, as always, is just cover for gun confiscation. And he wants to create a national database of gun owners, which would be yet another step towards confiscation. And he supports a reprise of the so-called “assault -weapons ban” from the Clinton administration.
All of those statements and preferences show that Biden is ignorant about the Second Amendment and show that yes, Joe Biden will take your guns.
But even worse than those statements are the people he has pledged to appoint to his administration if he is elected. It reads like a Who’s Who of anti-gunners. Michael Bloomberg, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, and Anne Finucane. Gun grabbers all. And maybe worst of all, he said he will select Beto O’Rourke to head his gun control efforts.
Robert Francis O’Rourke, for those who don’t remember him, has made clear his plans to confiscate your weapons. The exact phrase he used was “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore.” So a Biden administration would be even more anti-gun, if not more so, than Joe Biden himself. The same biden who shouted at a Fiat-Chrysler auto worker that he would “take your AR-14s away.”
In short, Joe Biden and his hand-picked, hoplophobic administration really would move to take your guns. Gun owners and those who care about their Second Amendment rights should take advice from none Maya Angelou via that avid gun rights promoter Oprah Winfrey: when people show you who they are, believe them. Biden and the Democrats have been showing us who they are for decades. It’s time we act accordingly in November.
