Between my Galil Ace Pistol and JWT’s AK, I’ve been shooting a lot of 7.62×39 ammo lately. I like it for two reasons: it’s fun and it’s cheap. So when I spied Billet Rifle System’s BRS47, it put a twinkle in my eye . . .

BRS’s new Russian shooting AR is available in various color options. The BRS47 sports Magpul furniture, an M-Lok rail, Faxon barrel in 10.5″ pistol configuration and an SB Tactical adjustable brace. Not to mention BRS’ 2C proprietary muzzle brake and a side charging handle.

  1. I will admit, it looks a lot less retarded than most AK-15 abominations. The side charging handle is a nice touch… I wonder how they solved the feed angle problem.

  2. After looking up how barrel length affects 7.62×39 velocity… I’m digging this now. Hopefully factory 7.62×39 AR’s start to get made and cost around 500 like other sporter AR’s currently go for.

    • yeeeeeeeeah, $1,850 or so? The Mutant is cheaper, and more proven, as well as having the bolt being AR-10 based, thus strongk like bull compared to the unknown BRS47, which may or may not be similarly beefy.

      • Nutnfancy did a Mutant and it was a jam-o-matic with all kinds of ammo. The one I saw at the range validated his results. Not sure if isolated but that said, the “more proven” part is dubious to me at best, if not a loaded sentence.

        • That had a misaligned gas block, many that came out at first had some QC issues. Mine is great works fine but is a bit bulky compared to my KS47 pistols. Now those have issues with the magazine, all of them. The bolt rides over the mag, makes contact with the feed lips and you have jams until you thin out the feed lips. Your mag needs a good spring also. Still working on them to make them 100%.

  3. Wonder how it will compare to CMMG’s MK47 Mutant? Only problem I see with the Mutant is the price. At $500, using AK mags, I might buy 2.

  4. Just Think. Had Hillary been elected, the big news at this year’s Shot Show would have been straight pull conversion kits for ARs/AKs and muzzle loading barrels to legalize Glock possession, instead of all the neat stuff we can now buy.

    • I think about this from time to time as well. If Hitlery won, what kind of God awful hell we’d be going through. We’d probably be knee deep in blood and spent brass by now.

    • The ATF is at this very moment determining a standard “rate of fire” for semi-automatic firearms and trying to ban accessories through executive fiat with the full support of the NRA and you think Trump is still out savior?… At least we would have fought against Hillary’s push for gun control, now the biggest 2A group and Republicans are championing more gun control…

  5. Dont know about this but POFs and PWSs in this cal work just fine. You just have to use the correct mags. That is what caused feeding issues with this cal, not feed ramp geometry. ASC and CPD magazines not the 30s the 28rd mags. 300yd hits, zero issue when correctly zeroed and exact same size rifle as a 223/556. I absolutely love mine and haven shot my 223/556 in a very long time.

    • I assembled a PSA 7.62×39 pistol 7 inch barrel. Used H2 buffer and spring, shade longer firing pin and novske pig brake. Mags are a big deal. Believe it or not the “pro mag” ones work too. For hunting I use a 20 rd GI mag(5.56) with 5-10 rounds and it shoots fine. If the hogs are close enough I can set them on fire as well…………

“Is shooting bullets just not cool enough for you? Buy a Maliwan and light some people on fire!”

      • PSA also has their KS-47, which takes AK mags. It has some problems with locking up when folks grab the magazine when shooting, however, there is a simple fix that remedies the issue (if you are comfortable with a caliper, and drilling and tapping one hole on the upper).

After reading the fix I picked up parts to build my own KS and it runs like a clock. Love it. AR form factor with AK mags. No more mag issues.

        Love the Borderlands reference 😉
