Chicago continues to be among the most violent cities in the country, with 41 people shot—three of them killed—over the August 28-30 weekend alone.
And with the Labor Day Weekend—typically one of the Windy City’s most violent weekends of the year—quickly approaching, Mayor Brandon Johnson is concentrating on feuding with President Donald Trump rather than making any meaningful changes that might save some lives.
Last year over the Labor Day weekend, 58 people were shot in 37 separate shootings. Eight of the victims died from their wounds.
But instead of trying to do anything meaningful, Johnson is spending his time taking issue with President Trump’s commentary after 41 people were shot in Chicago last weekend.
“Chicago violence is unchecked and at record levels,” President Trump wrote in a social media post. “It has never been worse! This weekend 41 people were shot, 3 dead. These numbers are becoming normalized. It is out of control!”
Trump later doubled down on the criticism, pointing the finger at Johnson and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker—both gun-ban advocates who refuse to admit what they are doing isn’t working.
“These numbers are becoming normalized,” Trump said. “It is out of control! The city will die if the Federal Government, a fine-tuned crime-fighting machine, is not invited in by the Mayor or Governor to help.
“I am awaiting the call. Nobody should be forced to live under these conditions. Like D.C. and others, they will have almost no crime, fast! The state and city can’t do what I do. Governor Pritzker, call!!!”
Rather than making that call, of course, Johnson turned the conversation to criticism of the president and his policies.
“When you have a president who is literally defunding the operations that can actually assist us in creating safer communities, it’s difficult to take anything that he says seriously,” Johnson told Abc7chicago.com.
Johnson then appeared to get even angrier, launching a further attack against President Trump.
“I find him to be a sorry individual, and if he was serious about driving violence down not just in Chicago, but across the country, he would not be engaged in endless illegal wars,” Johnson continued, not mentioning that more people were shot in Chicago last week than Americans have been shot in the current war in Iran “The president is investing more to bomb children than he is to feed children. He has an open invitation in Chicago and across this country to reverse the largest upward transfer of wealth that he placed into the hands of the ultra-rich and actually fund the institutions and operations that ultimately provide safety and security for the people of this city and in this nation.”
Of course, Gov. Pritzker also failed to accept the president’s help, choosing, like Johnson, to use the opportunity to attack President Trump, rather than help Illinois citizens.
“When Trump last sent agents to Illinois, they murdered a father and shot an innocent woman in broad daylight—then attempted to cover it up,” Pritzker posted. “We need to keep reducing violence, but this president does not make it easier. If only he hadn’t defunded the very programs that help.”
Not so ironically, Johnson doesn’t have to worry about being one of the shooting victims over the holiday weekend. While showing little care for the well-being of city residents, hypocrite Johnson spends $30 million a year for a personal armed security detail that includes as many as 150 Chicago Police Department officers—while at the same time presiding over some of the most egregious gun laws in the nation for his subjects, er, I mean, citizens.
Gov. Pritzker is in much the same boat. The Illinois State Police Executive Protection Unit supplies 24-hour-a-day armed security for the governor, his immediate family, and the Executive Mansion, as well as other statewide constitutional officers.
As long as the people vote the way they do, there will be no change in the weekly reporting on numbers shot.
What gets me is we have known what works since the 90’s on this scale (much longer on smaller populations). Until it is bad enough they want to do it again the beatings will continue until morale improves.

Which form is more efficient, and protective of individual rights? Is there any other form of government where individual rights are rights, and not largess delivered by government?
1) Americans have not outgrown America but the illegals do push things in weid directions and damn is it going to be a rough year here with increasing citizenship requirements for benefits to be reimbursed by the Feds.
2) If you want “sustainable” government it would require the removal of the constitution and the kind of heavy handed approach that would send a lot of people elsewhere
3) For anything our size decentralized power is a requirement for efficiency as there isn’t a single approach that works everwhere. Of course we forget (deliberately ignore to seize power) that and continue to try centralizing and subsidizing approaches that support centralization to the detriment of the country as a whole.

The US has not outgrown itself.
But due to our underperforming education system and our weak-of-will nature, we are producing new generations who are (as an aggregate) NOT fit for self governance.
The correct thing to do of course is to put everybody back into school, not to take away the right for the people to govern themselves.
But that needed to be done 20-40 years ago. Today, I fear we don’t have enough truly qualified teachers left to TEACH to the level needed to make us competent for self governance.
Rush Limbaugh used to say that over the course of human history, the people, when left to their own devices, continually and repeatedly embrace beliefs, ideologies, practices, and political leaders who end up driving the people back into poverty.
As a race (the human race), we have gone into poverty more often due to our own incompetence than we have lifted ourselves out of poverty due to our own genius. And we have stayed in poverty far far longer than we’ve not been in poverty.
Up until current day, America was the major factor behind humans going AWAY from mass poverty. But now we are happy electing and re-electing those who would bring us down, either in education or in public policy. Calls to prayer five times daily is only the beginning.
And we are all too eager to vote for those who would bring us societal chaos such as 30 million invading barbarians, unsustainable levels of debt and deficit, 25% annual inflation, health care that doesn’t work, and yes, more unpunished violent offenders freely roaming our city streets.

Eventually a society votes for itself, rather than principle.
