I used to tell my ex, “never tick off a songwriter.” I mean, think about Sting’s first wife and “Every Breath You Take.” He’ll be watching her to the ends of time, every time get gets on an elevator. (Or a “lift” in less-than-Merry Olde England.) Among the ranks of those best left un-rankled are cartoonists. Nothing says “my ass is grass” like seeing yourself immortalized in the comics. But if Reagan was the “Teflon President,” Obama’s been The President Comic Artists Hate to Lampoon. Up until now.
In a strip reminiscent of some of the best of Gary Trudeau’s work (before he went from sharp-witted and bitingly funny into mean-spirited and seldom funny) comes a strip on DayByDayCartoon.com, and Chris Muir. Click on the link above, and it will zoom large enough for you to read it. Or click here and visit the original site to see it and the rest of their art. This one’s a classic.
Oh, and the “never tick off a songwriter” missive? My ex didn’t listen. I suspect Obama won’t listen either. Which is to his Presidency’s peril.
DBD is a great political cartoon. I check it out every day. Is the ATF quote from a couple days ago accurate? “If you want to make an omelette you have to break some eggs'”
Yes, it was. But I think they stole it from Julia Childs. My favorite variation on the theme: if you want to make an omelet, you have to cut the cheese.
