You’ve made it past the 4th of July. You still have two sad dried-out hamburger patties and half a bowl of congealing potato salad in the fridge and you’ve already seen three back-to-school ads on the tube. But don’t fret! Summer can’t ever end until we’ve given away a gun to the winner of TTAG’s annual summer content contest. This year, that beautiful boomstick is a Henry Lever Action Octagon Frontier Model in .22LR courtesy Henry Repeating Rifles. But wait! There’s more! . . .

Because we love our readers, we also have a second place prize this year – a box of 250 Winchester 50th Anniversary AA shot shells (1 1/8oz. #8s, to be exact) courtesy Winchester Ammunition.

We know what you’re wondering: “What do I have to do to earn one of these fabulous prizes?” Simple. Sit down at your computer. Stoke up a Liga Privada No. 9. Peer through the hazy blue smoke and pour yourself a couple of fingers of Walking Stick bourbon. Once you’re settled in, creative juices flowing, put fingers to keyboard and write something. Anything really (as long as it’s gun-related). It can be a gun review, an editorial, a personal account of your favorite hunting trip…whatever you like.

Once you have it just the way you want it, send it to us. Email your entry (or entries) to [email protected]. Be sure to put CONTEST ENTRY in the subject line (emails without that may very well get lost in the shuffle). Enter early and as often as you like before midnight July 31.

We’ll run some of the best of what we get for your reading pleasure. If you don’t want your full name used when we post, be sure to let us know. Then we’ll pick the first and second place winners (using completely subjective criteria known only to those of us in TTAG’s super-secret, well-concealed above ground Austin bunker). Some time thereafter, we’ll announce the winners and ship them their booty.

So what are you waiting for? Stock up on bourbon and stogies and get to work.

    • Too bad…

Puff puff, gulp gulp, type type. Bang bang? Here goes stretching that qwerty joint a little.

      • Serves you right if you win you drunken sod. .22 rimfire is as scarce as unicorn farts. 🙂

    • You and me both. I quit smoking nearly 18 years ago. It was pretty rough. I still can’t get within 20 feet of a cigarette without gagging. Cigars, cigarettes, cigarillos…stay away from me! Quitting drinking on the other hand was easy–I had a choice to keep drinking and die, or promise not to touch another drop for life and qualify for a liver transplant. The thing I miss the most is the beer…

  1. “Peer through the hazy blue smoke and pour yourself a couple of fingers of Walking Stick bourbon.”

So that was *you* getting tanked with RF and going all conspiracy loony?

    Egads.

  2. Is the stank-ass cigar optional? If so, I might try my hand at a review, but only because the prize is a Henry…

  3. Some time thereafter, we’ll announce the winners and ship them their booty.

I’m sitting on my booty. You keep your hands off it.

  4. Just about disqualifies me too. Not much of a smoker/hard drinker/narrative writer. Would really love a Henry though.

  5. I have that exact same Henry and everytime I take it out to the range I marvel at its utter beauty…the authentic native Missouri walnut stock and forearm are of such quality typically only found on much more expensive Lever-Action Rifles. Additionally, the lever-action is as smooth as any you will find and its accuracy likewise is top-notch. Great affordable Rifle!

  6. I’ll stay with a cup of black coffee and my main vape (strawberry-vanilla custard).

  7. Lessee here. Cee-gars, check.

Walking Stick, negatory, my buddy Jimmy will have to do.

Henry lever gun in .22LR? Also a check, even has the “big loop” lever. A fine shooter.

Could use a few extra 12 gauge shells in a cool wooden box.

I may have to enlist all of the above in a little dissertation over the weekend, yesh…

  8. Interesting. I already have a rimfire rifle (a Ruger 10/22) that I don’t get to shoot basically ever, and I don’t own a shotgun. Not much of a reason for me to try for this one.

  9. Are Multiple entries permitted? I have a few ideas I’ve been wanting to put down.

  10. Do rants count? I’m pretty good at those. Don’t drink or smoke either…

    • Rants are the most entertaining…so let’s make good rants part of the contest. Better yet, all posts should be judged by the number of comments posted by others. Yeah, most comments on any gun related topic should declared winner.

    • In all seriousness, I’m glad we have a forum to discuss the nitty gritty of firearms culture. Many people I try to talk with just go straight to talking points rather than critically thinking about issues.

I used to try and rationalize with people, but after a while I saw I was wasting my time and became more sarcastic in my dealings with them (Muh mis-oh-Jenny “feelings”).

We as a community need to develop a lithus “test” to try and see if the people we are preaching to are willing to hear the gospel of the people of the gun. Preaching to those unwilling to hear is just painful and a waste of time.

So, any thoughts on what we can do to further our cause without wasting our time and frustrations on those that “just want to feel safe”?

  11. Just sent in 2 articles. not surprisingly my love for all information on firearms is the one thing that got me writing outside of English class!
