Harrington & Richardson previewed their new wood AR stocks at SHOT Show 2024. They teased these on social media awhile back but they’re ready to roll now. The wood stock sets are made by American-Icon, a veteran owned company that uses all US sourced materials.

The stocks consist of A1 pattern triangular handguards, and A1 style grip with an A2 length buttstock. They’re available in either maple with an Aberdeen Brown finish or black walnut with a distressed, darkened “BattleBorn” finish.

In addition to the stock sets H&R plans on releasing full M16A1 pattern rifles using the Aberdeen Brown stocks with gray anodized finish and chrome bolt carriers. Did vintage M16’s actually have wood stocks like this? No, they did not. Should they have? Yes, yes they should have. It’s a darn good looking rifle and has a classy, retro vibe that looks like something that should have existed in the 1960s. I built my own retro rifle using a set of American-Icon stocks recently, and I like it a lot. But, I think after seeing the H&R version, I like theirs even more. No prices are set yet but keep an eye on the H&R website for drops of the stocks and full rifles. EDIT: The Black Walnut stock sets are available on H&R’s page now and available HERE.

  1. A solid wood full A2 stock is appealing. But I would like to get it with a 15 degree wood grip. They can keep the hand guards.

  2. Cool setup. I’ve gotten a set of triangle hand guards for one of mine with a carry handle. Definitely have a thing for the carry handle uppers look wise.

  3. I’d love to get/build an A1, but the wood furniture does nothing for me. I want mine manufactured by Mattel, just like the one’s in Nam.

  4. H.R. manufactured the M1 Garand I purchased from CMP, actually a 1951 build date (although not serial matched). Didn’t know they were still around.

  5. Hafta admit, the wood furniture *does* look nice, but IMHO the AR is meant to be a workhorse built for function over form, so mine will remain with polymer. Nice wood furniture would prompt me to treat my AR gently to preserve it. Kinda like a truck…do I want it to be nice and clean with all the goodies, or do I want to use it to load, haul, and tow as a truck is intended to do?

    TEHO. These do look nice.

    • They reportedly cost more than I paid for my AR>$373+tax. The one ILLannoy made verboten. I do like wood on revolvers🙄

    • Don’t think the M 16 would have held up too good in Nam with a wood stock but it does look kinda cool. Does look frail though. Would like to see it’s durability tested.

  6. This would be for the Fudd who is still not willing to admit that the AR-15 is better than the M1, but is tired of being the joke.

    • Guess your talking about me. Been working with the AR, almost every day, longer than you have been alive I’ll bet. No interest in owning one, except now. Like the wood stock.
On another note. Funny how we are not supposed to disparage, joke about, hardly look cross-eyed at other people, yet terms like “Fudd” are just fine. Maybe it’s okay to disparage some groups, like gun owners, Christians, smokers, white conservative males, etc. Then we in the gun community disparage each other and fight among ourselves. WOW!

    • Yes, I wonder if the wood furniture magically changes it from an “assault weapon” to a hunting rifle?
Naw, it still has that evil-scary pistol grip on it.
To legalize it for AWB states, they have to change the shape of the grip, because all left-wing liberals know that it’s the shape of the grip that makes a gun ultra deadly.
Left-wing men suffer from pen-is envy (because they don’t have one), so they hate guns with pen-is shaped grips! 🙂

  7. I rather like the Maple stock set for the AR-15. Now, if they come up with a set that will fit my AR-10 I might go for it. Might have to put a set on my vintage AR-15A1. If I find a little extra cash lying around. A couple other items and projects will come first though.

  8. I first saw a depiction of a wood stocked (butt-stock) AR in a Punisher comic in the 1990s.

    I thought it looked cool.
