As TTAG readers know, registration leads to confiscation. It always has and always will. And licensing of gun purchasers is a gateway to registration.
So, it should come as little surprise that Democrat gun-ban advocates in the U.S. Senate have introduced a new measure to require lawful Americans to have a federal firearms license to purchase a gun in the United States.
On December 17, U.S. Sen. Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, and U.S. Sen. Andy Kim, D-New Jersey, introduced the Federal Firearm Licensing Act, which would require individuals to obtain a federal firearm license before purchasing or receiving a firearm.
Specifically, the proposed law would require that for an individual to get a federal firearm license, he or she must complete firearm safety training before purchasing a firearm, which must include a written test and hands-on training to ensure safe use and accuracy and the license, and license would have to be renewed every five years. Additionally, it would require the U.S. Attorney General to conduct a history background check of any individual purchasing a firearm, allow revocation of licenses for individuals who “pose a danger to themselves or others,” and requires regular checks by the FBI to ensure that gun owners are in compliance with federal licensing requirements.
Of course, Sen. Booker believes he has good reason to introduce such a measure.
“Every day, Americans face the relentless scourge of gun violence, most recently the shooting at Brown University, which claimed the lives of two students and left nine others critically wounded,” Sen. Booker said in a news release announcing the measure. “With each new tragedy, we are painfully reminded of Congress’s continued failure to pass commonsense legislation that could end this nightmare and finally make our communities safe.”
Sen. Booker, never one to worry about facts or truth, also lied about the success of gun licensing.
“The data is clear: firearm licensing laws drastically reduce gun-related deaths,” he said. “If a license is required to drive a car, it should be required to own a gun. The Federal Firearm Licensing Act brings this common-sense idea to every community in the nation, mandating background checks and proper training before a license is issued. With this legislation, we could save lives, prevent gun violence, and finally make our communities safer.”
Speaking for her organization, Vanessa Gonzalez, vice president of government and political affairs for the gun-ban group Giffords, also used the tired, oft-overused car analogy.
“A license is required before someone can get behind the wheel of a car, to show that they are trained and authorized to handle something with lethal potential,” she said. “And yet, in America, where gun violence is the leading cause of death for children, outpacing car crashes, no such national requirement exists. Licensing laws are an effective way to make sure guns are only purchased and used by responsible Americans, and yet just a handful of states have these laws in place.”
As with most anti-gun proposals, with the current makeup of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, this one faces a hard road to passage. However, should Democrats win back either or both houses in next year’s mid-terms, we can expect a full-scale push by gun-ban lawmakers on this measure.

“With each new tragedy, we are painfully reminded of Congress’s continued failure to pass commonsense legislation that could end this nightmare and finally make our communities safe.” — U.S. Senator Cory Booker
Fact: violent criminal gangs are responsible for over 80% of ALL crimes.
Fact: violent criminal gangs do NOT honor laws against violent crime.
Fact: violent criminal gangs will NOT honor federal licensing laws.
Fact: violent criminal gangs will continue to do what they do: break laws.
Fact: U.S. Senator Cory Booker’s statement is demonstrably false.
In light of the facts above, Senator Booker is either incredibly stupid or a bald-faced liar. If I were the betting type, I would put my money on the latter.
Why not both?
Cover the spread.
Oh, and one more:
Fact: Democrat run jurisdictions (such as New York) with their “zero cash bail” laws do 10,000 times more harm to the public than failing to enact some federal firearms licensing scheme.
Continuing with New York state, note that the only violent crime which does not qualify for “zero cash bail” is first-degree murder. So, if you go out and murder someone and the criminal justice system charges you with second degree murder (or a lesser murder charge), you walk out of jail with ZERO CASH BAIL, probably within 24 hours in most instances. If you beat someone into a coma and cause significant permanent brain damage, you get zero cash bail. If you brutally rape someone, you get zero cash bail. If you kidnap someone and torture them for weeks, you get zero cash bail.
The entirely predictable result for zero cash bail: there is ZERO incentive for violent criminals to behave, plus immediately releasing them enables them to commit more violent crimes.
If the likes of U.S. Senator Cory Booker truly cared about public safety and well being, they would never have supported and/or passed zero cash bail laws and they would be screaming to repeal them.
FACT: democRats like booker need criminals to fuel a scheme to lay blame on a Constitutional Right. And it sells to a public that has no clue History Confirms Gun Control is the best pal Racism, Slavery and Genocide ever had. Participant honorees: Pathetic Gun talking blowbags who bark at Defining Gun Control by its History.
I have a question. It has been puzzling me for a while now. If gun control is rooted in racism, slavery and the other one; why do the people that are the descendants of the victims of these atrocities the people who seem to support anti-2A the cause the most?
Not quite for NY as even before we had to reform the bail issue murder was not eligible. What has happened however is a murder will be charged as a manslaughter then off the manslaughter charge they would be released without bail. Supposedly we cracked down on that but I would assume we will ignore that if the perp has an ICE detainer.

I have an idea, if training is what they want, provide it in high school, the exact same way driver’s ed is done. Make every high school have a small-bore range installed, as well. Re-ignite NCAA local and regional competition the same way all other sports are done. Give the left what they want, good and hard…
This isn’t a terrible idea provided you find a way to put guardrails on it to prevent future expansion of the program. You know the Left loves to create stupidly complicated/expensive training so you’d have to be careful about how you did this.
Overall however, it’s not a bad idea politically or practically. In a sane world it would be a great standalone idea. I’ve said the same thing about the required health classes being modified to do something useful, like turn part of them into a TCCC class instead of sex-ed 2.0.
Merry Christmas, Geoff.
Something tells me that the primary contributors to so-called gun violence- the gangstas (that often look a lot like Booker) aren’t going to be in High School long enough to receive said mandatory training. It’s also likely that, as with other career criminals, they would also be exempt from serious prosecution, particularly on firearms charges, even if caught with a literal smoking gun in their hands.
Democrats are not interested in FACTS. They have an agenda and a goal, and that is all that matters to them. And what is that agenda and that goal? Very simple: the complete disarmament of the civilian population. And why do they want to do that? The Democrat Party, which long ago morphed into The New Communist Party of the USA, has been working toward creating a one-party dictatorship in this country since the end of WWII. That will be very difficult to accomplish if there are 100 million armed citizens out there, most of whom will not take kindly to living under a dictatorship. Thus, everyone must be disarmed.
Ludicrous on its face.
There is no part of any federal “license to purchase a firearm” scheme that is not prima facie a violation of “…shall not be infringed.”
If the government has ANY power or authority to determine who shall or shall not be able to purchase a firearm and to set the standards for that privilege, that is infringement.
The lawsuits challenging its Constitutionality would be waiting and ready t to be filed the moment any president was stupid enough to sign it into law.
But there’s an election coming up and the Dems have to pander to their base even when they know this hasn’t a Snowball’s chance of getting passed.
According to this article, the proposed law:
1) requires individuals to complete firearm safety training
2) training must include a written test and hands-on training to ensure safe use and accuracy
3) requires license to be renewed every five years
4) requires the U.S. Attorney General to conduct a background check
5) allows revocation of licenses for individuals who “pose a danger to themselves or others,”
6) requires FBI to regularly check that gun owners are in compliance with federal licensing requirements.
Imagine if fedzilla wanted to pass a law doing the same for practicing faith or petitioning government for redress of grievances. (I know, I know–don’t give them any ideas.)
Try this: A federal firearms license is required to vote in any federal, state or local election. All license holders must also pass a test on U.S. history and civics, the Constitution and U.S. government roles and limitations. (Proof of U.S. citizenship required for license).
Do you think Sen. Booker might go for this?
Are you referring to a federal voter responsibility license? Might also add that one need to be a property tax-paying citizen as well. Oh, yeah, Spartacus Booker and his fan club would love that…
I think politicians (particularly at the Federal level) should be required to take “training and tests” …. and *I* want to create the training and the test!
Cory “Ferociously Heterosexual” Booker,
You are a quarter-wit jagoff, as we all know, but exactly WHAT part of “shall not be infringed’ are you too stupid to understand?????
And the consequences for not adhering to the Constitution are what?
Yeah, didn’t think so.
Xdduly,
Well, if we are true to the lessons of our Founders, the consequence, ultimately, is decorating a lamppost or convenient oak tree. “The Tree of Liberty must be refreshed, from time to time, with the blood of Patriots and tyrants.” Tree of Liberty be lookin’ pretty parched, these days. I think we may need to decorate some lampposts, and that right quick. Got one nearby that would be greatly enhanced by a nice sturdy rope and Cory Booker (and about a couple hundred other Leftist/fascist Dimocrats).
The reason we have the Bill of Rights is because “common sense” doesn’t work.
“If a license is required to drive a car, it should be required to own a gun.”
Driving a vehicle is a privilege which happens to be a lot different than a God given right enshrined in the Bill of Rights. The ignorance of many politicians is exposed by their statements comparing driving to gun ownership and usage. Just illustrates their disdain for the Constitution and the 2nd Amendment.
FelixD,
No, I respectully disagree. “Common sense” works just fine, for people who have it. Unfortunately, these days, “common sense” is anything but common.
“Common sense” is a misnomer.
It’s never been common.
Historically commoners relied on others for sense or had harsher outcomes in various forms. If we start getting any technologies that allow exponential increases in power production an AI to corral those lacking sense may prove as inevitable as it would necessary be it right or wrong. With that said antics powered by a redneck fusion reactor would be a sight to behold.
Not going anywhere, same stupid stuff from the same retards.
It’s not stupid or retarded, it’s evil, and deliberately so, Mr Ross…
Speaking from direct expensive it can absolutely be all of the above. Look into NY’s gas hook up law for this year and our energy agenda.
*experience but the typo is related closely to the issue.
Typical.
Putting the words out there so the public can begin the slow-boiled frog routine.
Cory knows the drill after Soros sent a check with the script.
God only knows if this would pass supreme court muster at this point. The court seems to love or hate the 2nd amendment on alternating days of the week with no real concern with their own previous decisions.
Don’t forget: Spartacus was executed by Rome, with all his associates.
senate assholes, try getting: dindu/fag/illegal alien/muslim/negro/******/shitholer/transit control
They are still running that white sheet sale down at the
Kinder Kindered Korner store.
Dont forget to get the rope.
Nice of them to let us know what they will do to us when they get back in power, isn’t it?
After passing all of these requirements, they should issue a concealed carry permit at the same time.
I also read that this bill will require, as in New Jersey, that a buyer get a “mother may I” slip from the fed FOR EACH AND EVERY FIREARM PURCHASED. We already know that the New Jersey police slow walk gun purchase permits for months, despite a law requiring issuance within 30 days. (This is no doubt political.) How bad will if be if a federal bureaucracy gets involved? One can reasonably suspect that any time an anti-gun administration takes office that permits will be slow walked for months, or even longer, or that a “temporary” suspension of issuance will be imposed.
No.
The Right To Bear Arms Shall Not Be Infringed.
The requirements should be if you do not uphold the constitution you swore to protect your fired.
Vote Louder
Are the Democrats preaching to their own choir again?
How’s the gun confiscation doing in Australia?
No law will not stop criminals from using guns.
Xdduly,
Or knives, or clubs, or acid, or cars, or spears, or bows and arrows. I mean, if they’re using whatever tool it is to commit murder, rape, armed robbery, etc., what the hell makes ANY idiot think they’re going to obey a gun law???
The 2nd amendment is license enough to purchase firearms.
As a retired Chief Master at Arms and former Atlanta cop and later a Sheriffs office Lt. I probably don’t qualify for their license.
Democrats pushing a never-ending succession of additional gun control legislation. Is there supposed to be news in here somewhere?
It always amazes me when idiots use the ‘car-license’ story. But the biggest thing they conveniently ignore is all the vehicle laws in the world don’t stop a drunk driver, and all those rules don’t stop a single individual from speeding.
It’s NOT the tool, it’s the operator of said tool. And criminals, by their very nature and actions, will not mystically start obeying any new laws. They IGNORE the laws by their actions. If you can’t figure that out, you really need new meds.
Booker et all are not fit to run a toaster, much less a Country. With an IQ in single-digits and complete lack of knowledge or understanding of the US Constitution he needs to resign immediately. And take the rest of the idiot demonrats with him.
Why not try North Korea, see how far you get with this crap there???
“If a license is required to drive a car, it should be required to own a gun.”
But a license isn’t required to own a car, though, so why should it be required to own a Constitutionally protected item? I get tired of having to explain this, but having bought and sold multiple cars on eBay, I can state for as indisputable facts that:
1) A license isn’t needed to buy a car, own a car, or sell a car in America.
2) Insurance isn’t needed to buy a car, own a car, or sell a car, either.
3) Registration isn’t needed to buy a car, own a car, or sell a car, either.
4) Proof of age isn’t needed to buy a car, own a car, or sell a car, either.
5) Identification isn’t needed to buy a car, own a car, or sell a car, either.
6) You can buy a car with cash and have it delivered straight to your door, no questions asked, even across state lines. No paperwork needed (except for signing over the car title, and it’s advisable to have a handwritten receipt, but you can write the receipt on the back of an envelope with a crayon and it’s perfectly legal!)
7) You can also sell a car for cash and deliver it to the buyer, even across state lines, with no questions asked. Again, just sign over the title (and a receipt written on the back of an envelope in crayon is all you need for a receipt).
