OMG! Walmart Sells Tactical Weapons! OMG!

“One of the city’s Common Council members says Walmart has reneged on an agreement it made last year when the council permitted it to sell guns and ammunition at its Ireland Road store,” southbendtribune.com reports. “Council member Oliver Davis, D-6th, sent a letter to Walmart’s attorney Wednesday because the retailer is selling tactical 12-gauge shotguns at the south-side store. Davis also said he’s heard complaints that display cases containing ammunition have not always been locked.” I’d love to hear the legal definition of a tactical shotgun (that doesn’t include the word “black” or “scary”). Obviously, there isn’t one. But wait! The Council didn’t just take scatterguns and ammo off Walmart’s menu. They also banned . . . wait for it . . .

Handguns! Sorry. You probably guessed that. It gets better/worse.

The council granted Walmart a special exception in June 2011 to sell firearms and ammunition on Ireland Road. One of the conditions on that exception is that the store won’t sell handguns or tactical weapons.

Davis wrote the letter on behalf of other council members as chairman of the Zoning and Annexation Committee. He asked a Walmart representative to appear at the council’s next meeting, which is Monday.

Any member of TTAG’s Armed Intelligentsia live in that area? I would kill to have a reporter there for that meeting. Not literally, of course. And a picture of all the other “tactical weapons” at ireland Road Walmart: baseball bats, kitchen knives, pens, glasses (can be broken and used as an edged weapon), etc.

Oh and any gun rights-oriented attendee might want to ask for an update on an incident in the Ireland Road Walmart that went down last February . . .

Police are searching for a woman who they believe wielded a pocket knife at a Wal-Mart worker when he tried stopping her for shoplifting Friday night, according to a police report.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Friday at the Ireland Road Wal-Mart. A loss prevention officer confronted the woman, who he believed was leaving with items she did not pay for.

The worker told police that the shoplifter took out a pocket knife saying, “I will cut you,” before running away, according to the police report.

So, Walmart’s extensive inventory of “tactical” pocket knives has to go too. Presumably.
