I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Second Amendment support shouldn’t be confined to one side of the aisle. It would be better for everyone if both parties stood up for the right to keep and bear arms. But poll after poll puts the share of self-identified Democrats willing to defend that right at roughly a quarter — and the party machinery around them is working the other direction. TTAG has walked through what it actually looks like to be a liberal gun owner at the ballot box this cycle, and the answer isn’t comfortable.
Back in 2010, you could still find Blue Dog Democrats in Congress who earned “A” ratings from the NRA. Those days are gone. The gun-control lobby holds the party in a firm grip now, and when a Democrat does talk about owning a gun, the next sentence usually introduces the “commonsense” restrictions they want applied to yours.
And then there are candidates like Jaime West. Just WOW….
A Campaign Interview That Went Sideways
West is running for a seat on the Fayette County Council in Indiana, and her interview is one of those things you have to watch to believe. As Cam Edwards reported at Bearing Arms, she was asked for opening remarks, said she hadn’t written any, and would just speak from the heart. She described running a small cleaning business and raising three grown children, whom she called “pretty successful.”
Then the interviewer, Graham-McCarty, asked her about an “unpopular” move she’d make in Fayette County’s best interest. West groaned, asked for the question again, and said she would fire every Republican — adding that she doesn’t talk to them because she doesn’t like them.
She followed with a claim that a sheriff’s deputy had told her he’d blow her “head off,” then a complaint that ICE was taking away jobs. Asked for final words to voters, she looked straight into the camera:
“We have guns too.”
The Difference That Matters
A Democrat announcing she’s exercising her Second Amendment rights ought to be a win. The problem is the frame. “I own guns because the Constitution protects that right” is a constitutional argument. “We have guns too,” rolled out as the closing beat of an interview that opened with a pledge to fire every Republican in county government, is something else entirely. One is a principle. The other is the kind of line Yosemite Sam fires off after dropping out of the race for sheriff.
Whether West wins in November is up to Fayette County voters. But Republican employees of that county also have rights — among them, the right to hold onto their jobs without passing a loyalty test to the person who just told the camera she’s armed and doesn’t talk to them.
I saw the video yesterday, Jesus, how drunk was she during that interview?
She claimed she had had three beers before the interview. I think it was either more than that or she had also had something a bit stronger. IMHO, she was soused and her true self came out during that interview.

This article is completely dishonest. She said “we have guns too” immediately after recounting a story that “the sheriff’s nephew threatened to blow her head off.”
Given the context of her rambling interview, I find that line to be one of the most coherent things she said, and I’ve seen plenty of POTG respond to articles about antifa riots by saying things like “try that in Texas”, meaning we shoot back. How is this any different?

Threat or challenge?
Over the past decade or so I’ve see a bunch of far left types make vague and not so vague threats of armed conflict/civil war.
What gets dismissed is the breakdown of population and which side they would choose.
Roughly a third would do their best to stay out of it.
Another third would break left and the final third would break right.
But location tells a better story.
Cities tend to be more democrat while rural areas tend to be more conservative republican.
You know, out where the food, most of the energy/fuel, and much of the water comes from. Bugger a few pipeline valves, knock out a few big transformers/substations, and blow a few small bridges and rail trestles and those cities destroy themselves in under 2 weeks.
Sure, the left has guns too. But having them and being able to yse them effectively are 2 different things.
